In a previous video https://youtu.be/pEJSvbxkGXc I diagnosed this Buick LeSabre as having a bad MAF sensor. The new part has arived and now we pop it in and look at the new data. -Enjoy!

should MAF cleaning be a part of maintenance.
Very informative video. One of our meter reader trucks years ago – 2008 Ranger 3.0 was dying out about every 3rd driveway. It only had 4,500 miles on it. The scanner data showed the MAF reading backing up when you revved it up. Took it to Ford because it was under warranty. They said they couldn't duplicate the problem. I replaced the MAF sensor at the company's expense and it fixed it.
Damn you Eric O, Now I have to buy more gadgets for my toolbox! Acupuncture probes. I bought one of those Test lights with the curly red cord. But mine lights red or Green for polarity and even displays the actual Voltage! Next, maybe a clamp on for my Oscope. LOL
NAPA reman = cardung
Almost looks like an ignition trace when it drops out lol
You are doing a good job! (thumbs up emoji)
Is it really necessary to disconnect battery before unhooking maf?
Are you running an HD camera now?
Probably a poor solder connection causing it to fail.
Cardone … Dorman's cousin's company … ๐
I could go on a rant about them now, since I just replaced all 4 Cardone reman calipers in our 940. None of the 4 made it much past 18 months … ๐
Love the graph on the new scan tool there! One of the best ones I've seen so far. ๐ Nothing beats the Pico, though. Every time I get into a dry spell of drivability problems (like now), I can't justify buying one … but then I get one in and wish I had one! Guess I just have to take the plunge. I'm sure it'll be money well spent. That and a PowerProbe, and eventually a J-box, and I'll be set for a long time. Anyway, great follow up – love seeing the before and after of the bad and good electronics side-by-side on the scope! ๐๐
Started shooting vid of that RX350 with the stuck ignition switch today. Going to be an extremely choppy one, since I cussed my lungs out, and had to walk away from it several times. In the end, I won the battle – the assembly is OUT! It looked so dismal yesterday, lol – my outlook on life was much poorer then. ๐คฃ I did pay in battle, though. Stabbed my finger with the pic – on camera no less … which I'll have to edit heavily – then busted an ear off the bottom of the assembly trying to get the frozen tumbler to move, so I could push the pin and extract the cylinder. Also lots of nicks from a dremel attempt, and off-center drilling through the assembly. Might be an embarrassing vid, but I feel I need to share it, since there weren't ANY vids in any kind of detail (at least that I could find) on how to get this thing out, and get the cylinder out of the assembly. Once the part comes in, I'll finish shooting. Hopefully next week. Hope it helps someone, since I hear this is a very common issue. Real nice in a $50,000 SUV!! ๐คข
Hit 61ยฐ out here today! No heat on (so the video had no background noise for once!) and the door wide open. Like Springtime! Good thing the parts on order are holding me up, since I couldn't get my trailer out of the shop if my life depended on it – as soon as those wheels would leave the concrete, that thing would be sunk to the axles in mud … ๐ What a yo-yo winter we've had so far!
I thought $17 core value was high until I looked up the price of a reman'd one at NAPA. Thanks, Eric!!
Excellent diagnosis!
So there is a mil code for no mil light connected, who knew??. Learn something new everyday.
Eric you are correct
.the Cardone part number printed on the right side of the label is 74-50015
I had the maf sensor go out on my 00 beemer and it went compleatly out wouldnt let my car stay running unplugged it car started up ran great so i got a new one car has run awesome ever sense
Name scan tool please
Eric who you picking for the SB?
Is the pocket scope able to check the mass air? I am going to be buying one just wondering what it's capacity is. Please let me know thank you.
Eric, are you aware if the Launch X431 V has the Evap Purge/Seal test for GM's among the many? I'm looking to upgrade from the MTG2500 "Brick" to a better graphing scan tool.
Pricey item. Thanks for the video.
Do MAF sensors have gaskets?
Fantastic Video, Thank You
Nice follow up. Nothing like having multiple tools in the arsenal to test and verify!
Do you like the Bosch unit better than the Evolve? I've been told by the tool guys that they're the same except the color.
" Rev Up Tune Up " I like that!!
Eric on all your hi cost scanners and scopes, do you write off depreciation against taxes yearly? When they break does your business insurance cover any of the loss?
Hey Eric just wanted to thank you for helping be a better tech by slowing down fits it right the first time so thank you and have a great day and week
Good demonstration of the scope! Not enough out there yet. This is also a basic use, and should be easily applied to any scope. Trick is to start on basic components like this, get comfortable with setup, adjusting time bases, etc. Known good components is also recommended, so you know what good looks like.
*Scope tip* ALWAYS hook your ground lead 1st. Just in case something isn't connected right, this may save your scope or PC.
I bought my MAF sensor on ebay for $24 on my 97 Chevy 3.1. 2 years later and still working perfect.
That was interesting to see the difference on a different scanner although at first when your were taping on I thought it was the new one๐. I then realized you we're just showing the reading on peco vs the vantage anyways nicely done.
That spanish lady who likes when you speak her language got all excited when you said pico
Good follow up. I think itโs extremely important to post live scope readings like this. Our field is lacking in its understanding of scope usage and what we expect to see. I still get confused on things and like seeing known good stuff. Thank you!
Thanks for showing how the scope was hooked up. That PICO is sweet. My Hantek doesn't work. ๐
Great job again like always A+
YOUR CHANNEL IS LIKE THE GREAT TOOL REVIEW …, HONESTLY I CAN SIT DOWN AND WATCH YOUR VIDEOS ALL DAY AND SEE SO MANY DIFFERENT TOOLS BEING USED IT'S LIKE I AM AT A TRAD SHOW . THANKS SO MUCH AND PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING !
The heater control led's are easy peasy. Bob's your uncle.
Hot glue will fix your hat. No scan tool required for that diganosis. Your welcome.
Pico is such a great tool
Great video Eric O
how many maf have you replaced on a toyota i can't remember ever doing one mostly gm in my case same for fuel pumps i have only done a couple and they were for p0171 high speed lean not dead.keep the wife happy take time o
The Pico shows the outcome! Good Job! Waiting for part 3.
Hope you all got through the Polar Vortex ok. Should be warming up, relatively speaking,……soon. we got lots of MUCH NEEDED RAIN since Thursday!
Eric,
Great video and thank you for the follow up. I appreciate the way you showed the old and new sensors signals on the Pico. Im always learning from you!
SMA#1
God bless
Paul
Hey Mr O where did ya get the Bosch machine?? I likey, Likeyโฆ…Just a Diy'er with a pile o' beemersโฆ.got a 708 autel, need to step up my game..
Eric O and all of his viewers, Do y'all know of any channels similar to this one but based in the North TX area? P.S Great videos love seeing new ones pop up on my notifications. I think I've seen almost all of your older ones by now.
Is that anew tool cart looks great
About the o-ring on the sensor…ever seen one cause a vacuum leak? Ever had to replace an o-ring on a used sensor to fix a vacuum leak?
Good, I figured you wanted to use that solder sucker. Still would like to see how speedo gets fixed
Great video! Could you have done the same thing with the tiny oscilloscope? Is that dual channel as well, or single channel? (in which case watching the signal alone would have still been sufficient) Must be a bad solder joint internal to the sensor? Maybe that explains the high core cost (you mentioned it's a common failure in the last video, I think) – they know it's a straightforward repair (assuming these things come apart easy!)
i got an 05 buick lesabre, and its an amazing car, ive had it 5 years now, only thing to ever go wrong with it was my AC Compressor, yanked that piece of shit out and threw in a bypass pully and works mint ๐
