In this video I am working on replacing both front axle u-joints and the wheel bearings on a 2010 Jeep Wrangler. I show how to do it with a cutting torch and the possible problems you could have along the way. -Enjoy!

Does the plastic seal that you left out keep water from running down the shaft into the u-joint and bearing assembly?
great video, good to see how professionals work.
I did my jeep front axle u joint at home.
without oxy torch and big air hammer, it was a pain in the hoha. I was able to remove the bolts with 13mm 12point socket. Took a while with 3 jaw puller to remove the wheel hub, as the hub was rusted on the axle.
first tried to hammer out the u joint, then a ball joint press, it wasn't budging (yes, I removed all the clips). I was worried I would bend the ears. So I used a grinder to cut off the u joints. and pushed the caps off with pitman arm puller.
hope this helps someone.
How can I tell if the front u joint is bad on my Dodge Ram 2500? When I turn right the steering jerks like something is binding up?
it looks like the shaft IS BENT?
Sandpaper & a 1/4 inch cotterpin, works too.
Great attitude when working on those 3 bolts. Be fun to work with him.
What brand is that vice ?
Yay, SKF = Svenska kullager fabriken (The Swedish ball bearing factory)
When putting the caps on you should visibly inspect no needle bearings have come out and lay sideways inside the cap. If they do cap will go on, but you canโt get snap ring in. Thus having to remove the cap again. Done this more than once before.
good show i always freeze u joint bearings stay in place when you drop caps ha ha caps go in much easier mostly your suppose to drop 1 cap to make the job interesting thank you you make it look easy!!!
torch is not to small they are mixing propane in to rip us off not near as hot another to empty the slaves wallet like our gas and heating oil with 80 btu per gal. alcohol not 140 btu s
Been there done that, I usually replace the hubs also
2010 is the 3.8 minivan turd engineโฆ 2012 was the first year of the 3.6!
Always willing to watch a part two.
Fun fact. Axles aren't cast, they're HCS so if you get them too hot you can ruin the temper
a how to cutting torque video would be great i feel
Heat on the Yoke the Caps push right out not a problem
PITA!!!
Looking good.
Hey Eric can I put a new 7.3 crate motor in my 2007 F-150 SuperCrew that has a 5.4 Triton in it right now do you think the motor mounts are line up I know I'll have to change the computer system around but that's no problem I just want the big motor
I'm pricing this with a mechanic right now for my Jeep
did mine on my 95 ram 1500 with a ballpeen hammer i have never had to cut them out
I really enoy your schooling on repairs.
Iโm sure glad my 2010 wrangler wasnt that crusty when I had to take it apart a couple of yrs back cause I dont have a torch or a Big Nasty…
why u using a blow torch to do a u joint did u work at a junk yard
I'm just here for the wanton CARNAGE!!!
man i thought we had rust you win
โEnhance Enhance…nice super troopers reference!!!
Is that little slotted arbor for sanding the ID of holes homemade or can you buy those?
Your brass hammer set is mint!
I have had real good luck with my ball joint press for u-joints. I heat the GM u-joints that have the plastic injected instead of the clips but like you said it is dangerous I had a bearing cap explode out and knocked out the flourecent tubes on my shop light. The wheel bearing though it was a 'tough guy' but it seen things your way! lol
Had a girlfriend tell me that one night .flip me over and drive it home
Iโm 73 now and USED TO do most of the work to my cars myself. I can still relate to the satisfaction you obviously get from doing the job right. Being willing to share your techniques and tricks of the trade says a lot about who you are. And seeing Mrs. O, your little girl, and your pups just amplify your values as a person. If I were closer youโd get all my business.
This gets a two-years-late thumbs up for the singing
Yeah, when the bolts look like that, why even mess with the thread side? Just blow the heads off and break out you know who…
I've been a mech for 50 or 60 years and I still like watching a savvy mech Mr Obracktla. Ya'll may be Polish but your grandparents weren't in the Katyn Forest. If you want to read a book about Poland before ww2, read The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski and your eyes will bug out.
I enjoy your videos Eric, been fixing cars for 45 years now mostly auto body. I live on Cape Cod so multiply your rust issues. Years ago a friend gave me a scaling gun or sometimes called a needle gun. It is a shipyard tool that vibrates loose rust off without damaging metal. Great for cleaning up hubs and other suspension parts.
Jim morrison late doors singers
Dear me dont give up the day job for a singing career with the doors remand reband
Done those on my late wife's Cherokee Lorado lol same as the 1500 dodge ram just different sizes
that jeep is scrap in 4 years. RIp to rust
Is NAPA a sponsor?
i usually use a socket at the buttom
like your punch set lol
That "mushroomed head" needs to be ground off, it can chip and hit you in the eye, cheek or anywhere or somebody watching. But I know you know that.
frame looks cracked
You need to get some brats when do this job again
Wow thank you Eric learned a ton ! Got old jeep putting new frame lots other things. This will really help..
GM 1988 S10 Factory plastic retainers never heard of it I just knock out the U-joint in the vice with the socket receiver 2 Days Later I find out they needed to be burnt out
