In this video I run down my processes of find a short to ground on a 2005 Nissan Altima that keeps blowing the fuse for the throttle control. The best tool you can have is common sense and a wiring diagram, otherwise it is just a poke and hope game. -Enjoy!

Awesome stuff I must say … I have a 07 Saturn Aura 3.6l that is blowing the injector/ coil fuse every 10 seconds it is a hot steaming mess because someone started to check and left a ton of wires exposed but am having an issue with those two fuses and also not getting any lower to one coil and the injector of the same do you think I may have the same problem ?
Fantastic logic!
Hello I have an 03 accord , i recently replaced the starter, right when i tried to start the car it didn't start after looking at fuses i had blown the fuse 23 (Power Window Main) replaced it and the car started just fine after 3-4 weeks i had the same symptoms, no dash light and the no power to the windows, replaced it again car starts fine no issues but when i looked at the fuse it shows sign that it will blow again (it got discolored) wanted to know if you can give me any points as to what its making the main fuse blow. Thank you.
Eric, great video. Eric, commenters, the light bulb test seems like a great way to jiggle stuff, and look for loss of light. I have a fuse on an old mercedes (fuse#1/380SL) that blows instantly. It supposedly controls interior lights, trunk light, clock, radio, diagnostics. I have tried removing the radio, a bunch of these interior lights. Still the 8amp fuse blows instantly. Here is my question, could I connect a tester light to both sides of the fuse and jiggle stuff? Or one side of the fuse and ground? Or? I like the idea of watching the light while I play with various connectors.
Great job, very interesting. Makes me glad I am not am auto tech.
Life Saver!
Ive went to mechanic school and have experience in the field. I DO NOT recall anyone mentioning this!
You have changed the game for me when it comes to finding shorts.
THANK YOU
Its a sweater. A jacket has tight fibers
Who would have thought the wipers would ruined the wires.
Just feed bat + to it and follow the smoke ๐ then fix the burnt wires ! Done ship it !
So incredible I'm looking for a video on a EFI Toyota Camry blown fuse, the piece of the puzzle that needs to be reversed
Eric O is a bona-fide vehicle guru!
Great diagnostic skills!! Really enjoy your videos. I learn something new everyone. I am a retired engineer, I do appreciate your skills. Refreshing to see someone who doesn't load up the parts cannon and fire. Keep up the great videos.
Process of elimination! You killed it!!
Good vid!! Great tips!!
Love your light trick!! Ordering me a power probe! Thx
Incredible diagnosing. That's three quarters of the job right there alone. To be able to find the right part and not just throw parts at it. That is the difference between a good mechanic and a bad one. A guy that can actually fix your car opposed to somebody that tells you you got a bad ECM and to junk it.
Have a question a 2013 Audi A4 2.0 premium blowing fuse #7 have you ran into that
Good job
Good thing we Ned to lean on stuff to think while we are working
This looks like an older Nissan. I understand Eric is showing the "correct" way to find the short and "exactly" where it is. On an older car like this, once you realize which wire is shorted it is, in my opinion, more productive to just run a new wire to the throttle body from the fuse block. And Eric said it himself, " i don't want to waste a whole lot of time" which chasing the harness is. Cut it, run it, save the customer a couple dollars, make a note on the RO where the new wire is so if in the future someone has to chase the circuit they'll know.
smarter then you look LOL good job bro
Excellante!
Too bad you didn't get paid for this one. You fixed it, did an awesome job. At least we got a great video!
Had the same issue. Ended up being the alternator because it ran through the Auto Shut Down relay.
Ole bummy the whiney whyno@!!
Never heard a guy bitch/moan so much!
Liked it ๐๐
Where do you get your wiring diagrams and do you have to pay for them . Just curious . I'm learning alot from your channel๐๐ค
Goog Job
great vid if get sick of getting your hands dirty. become a nuro surgeon , its simalar work but better pay.. great job!!!
This gentleman is a very skillful, knowledgeable, master technician. He should consider working with an automotive tech college to offer apprenticeships – great teacher.
Eric, EXCELLENT WORK in isolating the short! I want to say more about your GREAT work, however everyone below has already commented and said it, You are a mechanic's mechanic!!! That is why other shops come to you to clean up their messes….. THANKS MUCH FOR THE EDCATION!!!!
Always lacked confidence with electrics, but your videos are really helping me.
I'm currently on the trail of a short in a 98 Chevy truck heater blower fan. Your step by step diagnosis gives me hope!! And , that's definitely a sweater!
Eric – you are definately an ACE technician – wish you were my neighbor helping me repair my truck ๐ณ๐ – I guess you kind of are my neighbor assisting my diagnostic abilities when I watch your vehicle repair YouTube video's. One thing I have learned for sure – One must master automotive electrical troubles and be able to logically test the circuit to locate and properly repair the problem. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge – You are helping millions of DIY to also master these skills – please keep them coming ๐๐๐โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ
I know this is an old video, but I still wonder why another shop would send you a car to install an ECM?
Very good very informative video. I've never really seen someone break it down quite as easily as you did. You deserve an Emmy award for this proformance. ๐
Great job interesting video keep up the good works! ๐

John 14:6
