In this video I fix a 2010 Jeep Wrangler that the customer complaint was, "it is stuck on defrost and the knob won't move." It is a pretty easy fix for a newer vehicle using an old style cable system. -Enjoy!

I had this exact same problem and was able to replace the part myself due to this video. He described everything perfectly thank you sir
I've always lubed those cables with powdered graphite.
Thank you for this video.
Thank you…. I was looking at how that cable connects to the controls for 20 minutes. I probably would have broken it if not for seeing your video.
Super helpful and much apprecaited
I'd be wondering what made it bend like that..something on the other end must have got stuck and the cable got bent by it trying to force the other end to move.
We've gone through several of those in our Jeep. Issue is as they get a little older the cable won't slide as well and this can cause the long portion that bent in the video to bend as you twist. Best thing we've figured is when installing lube the cable with white lithium. If you ever are twisting and you feel resistance, back off and work it back slowly. Being gentle with that cable is just a good idea anyway.
2008 Jeep Compass had the same nonsense problem…..replaced the cable worked for about 2 weeks and SAME PROBLEM AGAIN!!!….haven't taken it apart again but I wonder if the issue is with the part where it connects to the airbox as when I tried to rotate that white wheel attached to it by hand it seem ratchety!
Whatever happened to your grand Cherokee project?
Excellent Video!! Thanks Man
Am I still watching her car repair video
You are correct it's cheap flimsy plastic cheers
i, im wondering if you have ever done this on a 2003 dakoda??…ive changed my blower motor and switch underneath..?..cant recall what its called, but anyway now i cant control the temp as its stuck on high and also cant control where its blowing?…for now im glad its stuck 9on defrost as its now -20…is there some kind of fuse or something??…they were both working before??…HELP ???…lol…thanks in advance…p….ps. i live in saskatchewan canada.
And how did that cable get crimped like that in the first place?
"Extremely Primitive" – It's a Jeep thing!
Man that thing is built so cheap
Crikey, that plastic facia is the cheapest piece of…. it looks like the sort of plastic supermarkets use for fruit or meat trays
Ducks butt?
Lol. Worst case scenario for me, it costs me a couple hundred bucks AND somebody like you gets to make fun of me when I take it to get really fixed.
These are the most entertaining repair vids on YT. Nice work.
Any thoughts on the new harbor freight scan tool (Zurich zr-pro?)
Do you ever work on diesel motors
Jeeps suck..
God, Jeeps are just so trashy. I've had an aunt, first cousin, and my mother own Liberty's during the 2000's and all three of them were just absolute crap. Quality, fit, finish, reliability, proper windshield installation (there was some sort of recall, my family members went through 5 windshields).
I would’ve flipped my biscuits if when Eric said what are ya gonna do when I can’t fix something mrs.o would have said I’ll call Keith
Looks like Fisher Price made the dashboard for Chrysler. It's not even good plastic.
Ugh… the sound that crappy plastic made when you were taking it apart made chills run down my spine.
I know this is a keep vid. But of you get a chevy rear 8 lug 14 bolt would make a great video. There is very little info on this. Thanks for all the get videos.
Great video Eric O
Great repair but why is the air vent section still loose
For someone who kept saying he was guessing, you certainly blew through that repair like a scalded dog. Good job sir.
Did't think the dash was going to let go of that panel! LOL
What a horrid, plastic, box of garbage. Sorry, but I would ban FCA from making cars, as they are just dire.
Should have listened to the dude in the movie "The Graduate". "One word. Plastic." Man did he have that one right. Plastic everywhere. Should have invested. Course I was about 15 at the time.
Have you ever work on a 1993 Ford F-150 5.8 4×4 with a code 311 I need help
Saying thank you hardly seems enough after all you have done
for all the do it yourselfers. Bill N
Who could ever criticize the Master? Thanks Eric!
Doctors appt… good luck!
I just heard about your channel from 'BigCliveDotCom'. I like your style. Best wishes from England.
Ironic. Eric is fixing the defrost mode actuator cable and singing Ice tunes. 👍👍
I got a 2002 1500hd and I put a new blend door actuator and it's working backwards if I put it to defrost the air comes from the forward vents and ex… Can you help please
Time for super glue. Chrysler fix at its best.
Cheessssssssssy plastic. Wow. Nice job as usual!
I had an ear break off the HVAC box on my 87 Taurus wagon – it wouldn't change temperature! I just fixed the AC in that rolling toilet, new EVAP core, accumulator, lines and compressor. What the heck! One self tapper to lock the cable to where the ears were, fixed that! You can hear the self tapper digging into the plastic can't you?
The next time Jeep builds a good heater will be the first time. old ones the flapper doors didn't seal cause rubber seals fell off and rods went out of adj twisted cable for push-pull cable It's a Jeep Thing. I like your Chilton manual.
Great job A+
no surprise jeep makes cheap shit they have been for years
Great video. Looking for a new tablet for work, can you tell me what brand the one you are using in the video
Still way better than the whole electronic gizmo actuators.
Where are you from Mr. O? You don't sound very East Coast to my West Coast ear.
But, how did the original cable get bent up like that? I will agree, very cheap design.
