It is time to adapt, improvise and overcome as they say. In this video we have a look at Suzuki Vitara that cam in the shop with a few problems, one of them being an EVAP code. It did not take long to figure out the canister vent valve was faulty and NO LONGER MADE! Time to go to plan B. -Enjoy!

Wonder if there is a market for extinct automotive parts… that is not plastic? I have never even seen a Suzuki.
To be fair to Suzuki they aren’t bankrupt. They just left the North American market. Granted it’s been almost a decade since they left. But do you ever recall seeing them advertised? That’s why they didn’t sell. I was fortunate to own one of their last cars offered here. A kizashi. What a fantastic car.
Great job. U are the best
Really can't add much to the glowing compliments other than note that commitment to solving a problem along with professional excellence yields great results.
sorry it was MAF Sensor not tps.
I have a 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara v6 Hitachi TPS Went dead no longer made but I finally found one after 3 no fits from Ali Express and The Plug fit and all is good.
Just a clarification; Suzuki is not bankrupt. They stopped exporting their vehicles to some countries in America that had restrictive laws, but it is a company that sold 2,877,000 vehicles in 2014. They are ranked 11th in the world in vehicle production and sales.
Can anyone exain to me what the extra ear/ empty piece is that comes off the air intake inlet between the air box and the throttle body? Is there any advantage or disadvantage to deleting (taking off) the extra little air box that seems to do nothing but slow my air flow to the throttle body down?
Good job…you should expose the crooks…they give decent techs a bad name….I betcha grits to groceries they would rat you out if given a chance.
The only place on earth where bolts change size.
Without watching the whole vid, I'm just where you showed us the leak & started dismounting things..
There's plenty of space there, there must be some other car you can bodge in the equivalent chunk from, now let's see if that's what you do…
Edit #1 glad I'm not the only one who forces a 3/8" onto rusted 10mm heads sometimes.
Edit #2 Close enough to call BINGO, glad you picked something common enough in your area as a substitute there's a fair chance of the next guy recognising the part needed on sight if it fails.
Hell I live in Texas and I would take my cars to him. An honest, smart mechanic is hard to find these days. Avoca is blessed to have him (and his sweet family) there.
Cross reference with GM parts. Suzuki and GM had a thing going on at that time
What is money code lite? Keep saying it but never explained.
By the way looking for trouble having young girls “helping” you. It’s they are in an area that’s extremely dangerous for some not knowing all the possibilities.
Second is the use of a lot sprays (espy that one you spray on brakes) on everything. Most of these sprays are extremely has hazardous to you health. At best should be wearing protective clothing including respirator for vocs . Breathing these vapors is an unknown area where very little is known. At least what manufacturers admit too. And government is not really too interested in warnings. So you are on your own.
It was not too long ago that there was leaded gas available. To this day the contamination resulting from use of leaded gas remains. Most of the soil found in city areas still contains very high level of lead . Children are playing in this soil and citizens the thinking at have a garden in their back yard are using that contaminated soil to grow their Vegs. End result is extremely high levels of childhood brain damage. Now it’s Alzheimer’s. Has anyone linked it to lead. No I guess not. Considering what happened to romans we are following same path!
Little know fact is lead was ultimate reason for the demise of the Roman Empire! So not everyone realizes how dangerous chemicals are. Romans drank wines sweetened with certain lead containing salts. These salts resulted in irreversible brain damage. Final result being end of Roman Empire.
Can you imagine that they would turn around and put lead in gasoline. Where is this world headed.
So I love your show you are absolutely the best. Keep it going. It what Americans great.
Sorry for lessons in history but some one has to sound the bell.
I know this video is 3 years old but chevy tracker parts are interchangable with vitara and grand vitara
We're can I get the part? I have a 06 xl7 with the same problem.
You could Zip Tie the valve to the hose. Or use a couple of clamps.
Hi, Eric. A very good problem solving diagnosis. Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!
Knowledge of so many different vehicles comes in handy in a case like this.i only know fords.
Welcome back to the "Self-Made Auto Channel"
Bolt extractors are so great for rusted out bolt heads! But I love that "It may be 3/8 by now!" Thanks!
All these people that go to other shops, should just go to SMA their car’s last stop should be the first!
My 2007 grand Vitara 2.7 V6 is showing code P1421 (manufacturer control). My research has come up with it has to do with the vent valve is stuck open or closed. Is the vent valve different than a purge valve? I’m finding purge valves but can’t find a vent valve. I thought the vent valve was near the gas tank and purge valve in the engine bay.
The cost of owning a car will one day be more than your home if this sort of regulation by the government continues to get worse. On top of that, electric cars and batteries are coming. When is enough enough? When bicycles are back?
Eric , Your a genius on solutions
Wow two shops said it needed modules so let me guess they put them in for a grand and call them back and say oh you also need this and that and wow I hate repair shops like!!! Great work
Well there’s Bob Hope and no Hope and one of those is dead buddy 🤔😂😂
They could've used you on Apollo 13.
Great work excellent work love the knowledge.
Hi, from Kenya, I like your shop. My zuki has been overreving on idle with a g16a engine that's on a Suzuki Normade, or escudo, or Vitara, side kick, all the same. I wish you could advice on how to best diagnose all engine sensors and controllers. Thank you, paul
I know what you mean about discontinued parts. I have a 2004 Avalanche and the Sunroof motor stopped working and guess what, in the open position. No one has it and ACDelco said sorry it is a discontinued part.
Your salty roads suck. Hell on a poor car.
I hate when parts numbers are discontinued for a specific application but there are actually still compatible parts available for other applications. For example I had a Subaru XT Turbo (later model with spider intake) that had a bad cold idle valve (rotating shutter type unique to the spider intake XT). NLA from Subaru or anywhere else under the original part number, but Isuzu or Suzuki used the same thing under a different number and it was still available. Sometimes you just have to do lots of searching to try to find something suitable. Try searching just a section of the part number with an image search to see if something that looks similar comes up. Happily someone has already solved this Suzuki's particular issue in the comments here.
Late comment to post date but must say I admire your sense of purpose … knowing that "State Rules" don't necessarily "make it right" … you did a good deed and I admire that in you. I've had 4 Vitara's in 3 Countries and loved them for their reliability … pity they went broke in USA … still here in EU so expand your "parts search reach" … you'd be surprised what's available (particularly in UK) still … even with shipping. Ingenious the GM "Surrogate Mother" approach you came up with … Bravo !!!
Nice video. 1 galloon of gasoline can create 600 galloons of vapors!
suzuki did not go bankrupt- they sell cars all over the world just not in the us
You are a good man I can see you try to help the people the best you can if this would had more I Mechanics like you would be great .
Bye the way you wouldn’t won’t to come too I’ll to fixed the Huey pump on my cat Diesel it’s only a hop skip and a jump from you 😂 LOL
Old video I know but some people don't get 'no longer available'. Someone i did a good job for didn't understand that little fact and went ballistic at me 🤣 glad you got an understanding customer
I needed a metal brake line for a Geo Prizm. GM told me to make it. Toyota had it prebent.
Suzuki is not a "bankrupt car company" as you said. It is a major world car manufacturer. The American congress mandated expensive draconian "safety" measures and environmental crap in an effort to drive foreign manufacturers out of the U.S. market. Suzuki pulled out of the U.S. market just like I would have. I wish I could buy a Suzuki today, but my elected representatives have prohibited that.
That's where I think this emissions testing is a racket. Car runs fine, tail pipe emissions are fine, however just because the MIL light the car has to be junked!? Abounds just as shady as the cash for clunkers campaign years ago, something to boost new car sales. Great way to keep it going.
Epoxy
Great solution!
Hey bud! Great channel! Ive comebacross the same problem and a 2000 model subaru vent valve is almost identical just different mounting same plug!
Really nice to see a shop go above & beyond. Too many places would just wring their hands and say "Sorry, can't be fixed." Used to go to a small shop like this, then they got a new shop manager and went strictly by the "book".
Hey man where is the blend door at on 2003 suzuki vitara
Given the cancer that we see under the vehicle, its time is short, especially in new York.
I wish garages were like you in the UK. The ones I know would never do things like that and would go for the more expensive option
