In this video we give this old 2007 Chevy Express van some overdue TLC. We replace the rear brake pads, rotors, calipers, backing plates, axle seals and parking brake shoes. This is a very common repair in the rust belt unfortunately. It is not overly difficult but time consuming. Enjoy!

I did 4 rotors and all pads. And 2 wheels squeek when I touch the brakes not sure what to do
Napa, in NJ still sells loaded calibers.(but I think they use the cheapest pads, thats why I don't get them.)
Being a ex New Yorker living in Orlando…I almost freak out when I see the rust on these cars..almost want to scream…throw it away…my 2000 trucks are 100. That’s 100 percent rust free..never changed a brake line in 20 years…Eric’s comments under his breath remind me of the old Popeyes cartoons…always having a 2nd meaning…he’s spot on on the China thing…I had no idea..he rattles it off like common knowledge…as for living in western ny…it’s good for 4 months..j .j.a.s. That’s it…I don’t even think you can ski there..when he’s rattling…..he’s on a roll very funny….like he gives the prices…gives you a idea….pimping ain’t easy…also a supporter..time is money…great job..
The best entertainment on the interweb!
love your vids man!
You sir are a master in your work I appreciate your videos and you help me out a lot, thank you!
Oh it’s an express? Don’t waste your money. The whole thing is garbage. Junk it and get something else
We dont have inspections like that in Arizona if your car is registered in Arizona, but if you move here from New York you have to have an inspection before you can get registration. Now I know why. Not talking about emissions either.
Really enjoying your old videos. Your humour stands out even back then.
I dont think he would last a day in your shop working on all the rustys..😱
Yep the dude down in Florida has it made, working on clean rust free vehicles..he was busting ur balls the other day when he worked on a motorcycle carburetor…lol
First time I did my axle seals I was that Ding Dong that puked out the spider gears took me over an hour and a half to figure out how in the hell to put them back in lol wish I'd have seen this video first
I’ve in the past used the diff. end of axle shaft to pry out the seal
I am thinking RAMBO in the shop, WUFF!
Snakes! why did it have to be Snakes!
First time I came across banjo fittings was on some Japenese vehicle, it was used on the pressure side of a fule line. The fuel line would be steel with a round end that the banjo bilt went through. So the end of the fueline actually resembled a banjo. So, likely that's where the name started.
I pulled wrenches in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. Very little rust there. I don't envy you, though I have boatloads of respect for you.
dont you wear a mask so you dont breath all that junk in
Having to pull the axles to change the brakes. Almost like having to pull the engine to change the spark plugs.
Banjo bolt solo cracked me up. Always a great day for SMA.
I didn't realize how much more rushed cars where in your area compared to southern WV.!
The harbor freight stuff is really starting to impress me.
that must have been like a $3,000 job
Lol if you live anywhere there’s salt out down you better use that park brake once in awhile or it’s going to be useless in a couple years
,you might like to try soda blasting on those nasty areas…
Thanks Eric. You always do good vidies
Why don't they make all this put of stainless steel?
I'm not in NY, but my vehicles are 20-30 years old , so it's nice to see how Eric deals with rust etc

What would the approx labor be on a job like this?
I use my parking brake every time before putting my car in park. Was taught that it helps reduce wear on the park gear and it's also just a 2nd line of safety
……. I have a lot of respect for you…. no homo man… I love you. I sincerely wish you the best.
Eric we who live in hill country, like near Spokane or Seattle, sometimes you have to use your emergency brake during normal driving, and the cities close some streets during snow. I have seen black women bail out because the car was not going to stop until it hits something. One day in Seattle in my 70 Chevelle with snow tires I couldn't make it out of a 1/4 mile dip in the street. Had to try several times to get out.
My Man… You are the Bob Ross of Brake Cleaner in the Can. 😅😅😅
The only Chooses we are left with is the Grade of Chinesenum.
Does YouTube demand that you say aluminium or it is that all you
Im so glad Dorman is not in the Aerospace industry!
I just slit the backing plate, and stitch it back together after its on! Brush it with some industrial DTM paint and wallah! I have seen some again that i did several years ago and they outlasted the originals.
Jeff
GREAT VIDEO!!!
I wish I had come across your videos before now. Super informative. I like how you explain what's a waste of time and what's 100% a must do.
I always use my parking brake.
I am a family man also. I appreciated the family popping in and joining you for a minute. Thanks a lot for putting in the time to make this video for all of us DIYers.
