The old latch "That never failed" .. yup.. good video thank you!
Thanks, worked like a charm!
Well. we're into 2021..I am not a mechanic by "Any Means". Because of your teaching and step by step technique, I was able to fix my 2012 Ford Escape Latch!! Also even better, I saved $300 because of your suggested part list and not going to the dealer.. Thank You.. Thank You!
what about the glass part? Mine decided it doesn't want to latch, I didn't even mean to open it. I just want it to shut, I don't need to to use it. Thanks!
thanks
Still trying to find a 96 explorer rear gate handle replacement
Mr. O, thank you for your service. and can I come work for you? I have just about had it with the hacks I work for and would like to get in someplace where good work and experience pays off. You just helped me diag the same problem on the same vehicle in my shop. I have an new motor and all the good diag just like you checking the wires with current. but I forgot that I had taken the battery cable off over night because I had the hatch open…in the morning nothing would work once I powered back up…..the hatch was locked….doh. Only took the afternoon to figure that one out.

What if the light stay on after you replace the actuator?
Sweet
The hoop that goes into the latch on mine came unglued from the glass.
Around how much did that cost? Wa s it over $100 by chance???
Thanks for the video and number.
Dorman Part #937-663 is identical to the
ford part but cheaper. Thanks for doing this video, it helped.
Thank you very much, for showing the box with the part number. I wish everyone did that.
AvE has ruined me. Every time Eric says "thanks for watching" I expect him to say "keep your d–k in a vice.
Ive watched several videos in different years.ย Why Ford/Mercury wont make the product better?ย I cant believe in 2018 when this video was made that the problem still exists.ย I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner.ย SMH!
How do you open the hatch if nothing works whatsoever
I must fix my latch, it receded, and won't 'catch/hook' the window, and was wondering why in the world you were pushing back the inside door panel, without first taking off the screws at the door jamb bottom??? then I saw you finally got there. Thanks, I hope to get my latch to match the window prong, so it will stay closed! 2001 Mazda Tribute, what else on a 19 yr old car!
For about five years, my rear hatch latch sometimes works and sometimes does not. What would be the cause of that?
Great instruction…thanks for uploading! Got mine swapped out in less than 15minutes!
Great vid! I just switched mine out followed your easy directions! Thanks again! Ya saved me a couple hundred bucks
Be sure to reach in with your left arm as shown to release the latch. Mine failed when the plastic rod from the servo broke in half. Many attempts using my right arm failed because i wasn't reaching the metal mechanism on the left side. Pulling on the actuator didn't work since it was detached from the latch.
What do you do if you arenโt getting power? I replaced actuator and it still wonโt work
Thank you so much! Bought a car and the rear hatch didnโt work. Thanks to this vid we were able to fix it ourselves!! Love having a working hatch!
Yes it is easy to replace. I have replaced the latch in my 2009 escape twice in last three years, just watched this video.
Not buying it again.I made a small hole in that cheaply madeย plastic handle that pulls the triggerย and attach it with a thin stainless string and that should never break unless the pull handle breaks too.
Ford has to improve this. It is a big problem if you are driving a long way and you have your escape loaded with suit cases etc.
Can't find any information on the latch for just the rear window….any idea on replacing the latch for just the window only?
How do fix this issue if the actuator isn't getting enough voltage ?
Wow! 2 for 1 repair. Cool! I can only imagine what that tailgate will look like in a year or two. Really nice repair job!
I've got a 2009 Escape. I know that me doing this repair is inevitable. Thanks for the video, it showed me that replacing the latch won't be as bad as I thought!
What type size screws did you use to install the latch? My old one was installed with random screws that didnโt hold it in place. Thanks!!
Great channel
Latches,Door Actuators,Door Locks,Window Regulators,Body Solenoids, etc….is a specialty all mechanics should learn about. You get a vehicle with a misfire condition and the customer says the doors do not lock either can you fix that for me to? Well here I am at SMA to learn from the best. Thank You.. Eric
The engineer on this vehicle wanted to Escape some design flaws, so he went on to be an Explorer on a different Expedition
laying from inside you can use a long spring hook from side between the latch post and lock…it pops it
Have you driven a Ford lately? Oh you tried but you couldn't even get the hatch open? Welcome to the world of half-baked Ford "engineering" where shaving ever possible penny takes priority over vehicles that are actually worth owning past the wimpy 3 year 36K warranty. Ford needs to step up their game or risk being crushed by their many reliability fails in the last decade. A bottom of the line Korean Hyundai or Kia puts even much more expensive Ford vehicles to shame in terms of overall reliability. Ford nearly always equals FAIL and that's become even more true with their Ecoboost motors that are suffering catastrophic failures at relatively low miles. Have you driven a Ford lately? Until Ford decides to focus on anything beyond their own greedy profit, don't bother.
Just replaced mine on my Escape few weeks back.
I'm just gonna say you have some VERY generous friends! See ya in a few days! (that's all I'm hinting!)
speaking of the T27 explosions, I need to exchange a handful of them _
Buffalo Bills plate frame nice
I wish Scion had an access panel on their TC's.. You have to work in the truck with the seats folded down and only part of the rear panel comes off with the trunk still closed.. You talk about a classic reach around, over your head, in the dark.. Guaranteed to lose some skin.
My understanding the rear glass was not suppose to open. The weatherstrip for the glass leaks and rots out the actuator. Ford has a fix to make the weatherstrip seal and not leak water. And as always fantastic reach around!

Keep crankin em out Eric!! Your knowledge and insight is far superior to many of the instructors I currently have. I sincerely appreciate the work you have to do to make these video's and I thank you for it. I hope you and your family have a happy and wonderful Easter!!
Door latches & the tailgate latch in my '72 El Camino were still working 39 years after it rolled off the showroom floor, when I sold it. Just sayin' … ๐
Neighbor owns one of these turds. Thanks for showing me what I'm inevitably in for. ๐
You and the family have yourselves a HAPPY EASTER! ๐
8 blind people press the thumbs down button.. I concur, the latch essentially falls out. LOL
