Hey Eric so Andy Mechanic did a Tool Box Tour Video in Response to the one you did. Well wheres this video at?!?!? Lol, Thanks for all that you do for us!
Awesome channel! I have a question about a 1997 Toyota Corolla replacing the ac dryer and where it connects to the condenser, the fitting on the condenser is stripped. It’s aluminum so I don’t think I can fix the threads. My question, the fitting on the condenser, can that be replaced or would I have to buy a new one? Which cost more than the car is worth?
On the exhaust part of the show ozzstar made a comment that if a magnet sticks to it its not true stainless. I am a steel fabricator and your statement is partly not true. There are many grades of stainless that a magnet will be attracted to. For example 316L a magnet will be attracted to but will not stick. 304L stainless magnet will not do anything. Most exhaust pipe that is stainless is a very low quality unfortunately
1 last thing.. I used to have ASE mastertech and L1 status along with a couple of HD truck certs, and I let them expire. At the time, both the union and my job required some of them, and the more you had, the more $ you could get. Did it make me a better tech? Well, the only thing I can say is that having them, and wanting to keep them, made me stay in classes to further my overall knowledge as well as gain new techniques for fixing cars and trucks. Please note, that during the 80s and 90s, having an ASE certified technician in a shop meant something. The guy knew what he was doing and had experience to back it up. During the '00s, ASE kinda got silly, and introduced a ton of extra certs available for everything from general service, to service writers, to parts counter personnel. Really? Suddenly because someone has a piece of paper, they are qualified to change your oil or fix a flat? Really? Suddenly because someone has a plaque on the wall, they are certified to look at a computer screen and tell you that this part will fit your car? Umm no.. So when I left that job, I let my ASEs expire and I now work for myself, just like Eric does. I still go to classes and seminars from time to time, but that's for me and to help my customers. IMO, ASE has become a money pit. The prestige is gone.
We had an 83 C10 long bed with a 250-6, 4 auto OD, P/S, manual disc brakes, gauge package, am/fm, towing package, frt bumper guards and NOTHING else. We got it from a local library that closed. It was a super low mileage beast. We put 235/75 off road tires on it for the winter and some sandbags for traction. We had it for several yrs and sold it to a friend of mine, who then sold it to his uncle. He drove it from Il. to Mexico, where it spent several yrs in service there. Last month, I swore I saw it in a neighboring suburb. I went back to try and find it, you know, just to see it and verify it was the very same pick up. Sure enough, there it was in a driveway. It looked like it had a quick refrigerator white respray ( it was white from the factory) over all the old dents and bruises that it had, and that's how I knew it was the same truck. And it had the same steel Chevy truck rally wheels that we put on it. I rang the doorbell but no one was home. So I let it be. Point is, I agree with Eric. Chevies used to be a real tough no nonsense truck that ran and lasted forever. Now days.. for the $ they want for 1, I could buy a house n/p, and they are garbage after 5 yrs. Sad but true! — Side note, when I worked for the DOE, I had a 93 C2500 std cab long bed with the diesel and 4 auto. It was a strippo w/t govt vehicle but at least it had a/c. Another tank, even though only 2wd. It was a superb truck that got unbelievable mileage. Chevy needs to get back to its roots!
Hello, I’m in question if you can give advice on a vehicle. I have a 95 Ford F-150 4.9 l that has gave me a headache. It has put me though the paces of my mechanical knowledge. The low down on the thing is it intermittently runs rich, rough, and bucks under load and dies. Base timing is set 10 degrees with spout unplugged. The idol air control is new also new as is the o2 sensor, plugs ,wires ,cap and rotor, also new is engine coolant sensor and map sensor. Egr vaulve is blocked off and fresh air pump system is by passed. Doesnt seem to have any bad connections or missing grounding wires. Codes manually pulled by jumper wire comes back as a lean system. I have good 40 psi on fuel line and the 45 psi with regulator with no vacuum and no identifiable vacuum leaks. It even runs rich with with vacuum Line open to air at vacuum booster. I have questioned fuel quality since plugs that were pulled had ash fouling, acts like a vehicle running on methonal. Vehicle gas two fuel tanks and both were filled just prior to the problems starting after depleting fuel from one tank the second was used problems when away for two days and started doing the same thing again. Fuel in other tank was mixed with a different fuel problem still exist. I have questioned the catalytic converters but they seem to be fine. I have not tested back pressure on them but the exaust seems to flow fine and don’t glow red in the dark. Planning to pull o2sensor back out and leave it out just to see if there’s any difference. I have not had the chance to re pull the plugs back out to identify if there’s a single cylinder loading up on fuel via injector or all cylinders are loading up since change of plugs. PcV valve flows great and has been cleaned. As far as I can tell it is all fuel delivery and control related issue. The thing is also OBD 1 have no way to look at data stream and don’t have the money to invest in a predated scanner. I have a jinky oscope nothing fancy like a snappy unit but pip signal seems strong and and load signal on coil seems even. Like I said im at a loss on this thing. It’s been a a decade since i have really wrenched on anything professionally is there any suggestions that you may have would be greatly appreciated. I understand if not . Thanks, Ryan T M
Hey Eric, long time subscriber from Cali! Love the videos and learned a lot from watching you and the other Eric on you tube… Two quick questions, one, how do I join the chat live stream on Wednesday and two, any thoughts in saleing some SMA shirts?!? I would like to show my support all the way from the west coast! Thanks again!
Almost fell of the chair laughing at the Jeep story with the wife and kid in the car!!! You are a great story teller Mr O. Felt like I was riding along. I could visual you three cracking up after you peeled everyone off the windshield big thumbs up and thank you for the videos
Get stuck in a rig and just leave it and go get it when the snow melts? You do that around here (Hillsboro, OR) and you'll never see it driveable again. You would find the shell just sitting there… And even the worst snow melts usually within 3 or 4 days.
I would never discourage a new tech from getting ASE's.But I'd let them know it can be a total waste in certain job markets while it's a necessary evil at times in others.Last is experience trumps certs but if going the stealership route they might be needed 😉
Eric o your work speaks for it self you the best I seen on YouTube your better the ones with million subscribers you will hit a million subscribers I know it
All those ASEs are like any other certifications in any other work field like IT also. It only means that at the time of the test you where able to memorize a certain topic and put that down on paper. It doesn't mean you actually know what you are doing. I worked with a guy that had 2 BS degrees in IT but coudn't do anything.
Regarding that Napa auto care winner , it’s not what you know it’s who you blow……. way back in 1991 I took and passed “open book” ASE test for AC recovery and recharge so I could buy a 30lbs bottle of R12,which I still have about 22lbs. Shawzbot nanu nanu
You want hot ??. Currently sitting under my carport in South Australia looking my outside temp gauge…..and it reads 40°c or 100°f+ !!!. Rather fry my butt than have it iced onto my chair. Love you vids. Great experience with great humour. 👍👍

Holy Cow!! Pretty Soon your not gonna need to work if people keep sending you stuff. Start showing the broken stuff!!!. I know-you always wanted a salvage yard!! People should start sending you used parts!!!! Or food. Or clothes!! I think your on to something. Boats-motorcycles college tuitions!!! Great stuff EO Keep up the good work
I'm sorry but if I was Mrs O until Mt O gets the timing belt on her van Mr O would be eating the bomb burritos from the gas station and buy you some preparation H. All in good humor.

schools are not all that cracked to be. When i went to trade school, my teachers talked about their ex-wives. all day.
