There is an old sayin', "Some times you get the bear and sometimes the bear get's you." In the case ogf this van the bear got the owner. He and a friend attempted to DIY their head gaskets on this 2004 Honda Odyssey and unfortunately the crank gear has two marks on. Some of you know where I am going with this.... -Enjoy!

I never experimented about put thick head gaskets set to avoid the valves from hitting pistons
sometimes it's best to leave head gaskets to the pro's who do this for a living…..
this was so preventable why do they have two marks on the pully?maybe other motors use the same pully that time off the dot not triangle?
My q is why did we suspect #2 when it clearly had no compression on #5? I'm sure im wrong, jw. (Edit: nevermind im an idiot)

My experience loose. Lots everywhere is never good because it's a sign who ever worked on it didn't care if it had issues more like they were just fixing it to sell it and get rid of it not sure the history of it but I can feel the frustration as well big bucks to do head gaskets and boom never rums again over a timing issue good video as always Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC

I think it's important to treat your mechanic well. As cars become more complicated. All the more so. I'm giving my automotive guy to really nice antique kerosene lamps for when the power goes out. One for his house and one for his cabin.
Definitely need to update that windows 7 computer to windows 8.1 or windows 10. Windows 7 is not supported my Microsoft for a while now. So it's an easy target for hacking
You're right; those 3.5s always seem to bang the valves in the rear head. Had some long-time friends who live out-of-town at our place one weekend. When they went to leave, they cranked up and their 06 Accord ripped a few teeth off the belt (never been changed. Had 175k on it). Bent two valves in the rear head, and if I remember right, they were in fact in the #3. Eh well, gave us a good excuse to get together again a couple of weeks later after I fixed it.
meh, put a temporary valve softener agent in it & run it.. I'm pretty sure that'll take care of them bent valves.. no, no it won't 🙄
Honda—- professionally reused
From my understanding, most Hondas are interference engines. The values can and will make contact with the pistons, doing great damage.
I have gotten this same
Vehicle. Needed head gaskets and t belt. Did the work but it now has a whine while
Accelerating. Maybe you have an idea on what it could be? Only when pressing on the gas is when the whine is present.
Repair work has definitely changed over the years.

great videos, Thanks for the tips. I have a question, just got done with valve job, put everything on TDC before taking heads off, got the heads cut, cleaned the valves, and installed heads, when I tried to turn rear head, It wouldn't turn, or it was next to impossible. the mark was 180 degrees in the other direction. I went ahead and removed that head, and loosened rocker arms to turn cam and set it to tdc, than I tighten everything up and before I installed, notice that cylinder 2 had intake valves open, and cylinder 3 had the exhaust valves open. Now the Crank is at TDC with cylinder one being all the way up. Can I install head with valves open like that, or is there anything else I need to do. I haven't set my valves, I was going to do that after my timing belt was on. Please advice. Thank you

I have a 2006 Mustang v6 and it cranks but won’t start. It started with me having a blown head gasket and after I put the motor and eveything back together it wouldn’t start. I’ve had people say it’s out of time and a lot of other stuff. What could it be?
Before I start a DIY job, I always consult the service manual. Not to mention a job so big like this. None of us has the experience level anywhere close to any mechanic.

DIY head gasket on a car with Reynolds Wrap for air duct intake. I bet the guy saved up for 2 weeks to get enough aluminum foil from all the wrigleys gum wrappers to fashion that! You gotta be shittin me with these rust buckets and Gomer Pyle mobiles. if the guy used aluminum wrap to make an air duct, I'm betting big time that he's not gonna pay for a HG, especially on a beater that sat for 6 mos. I give you lots of credit for even trying to tackle these jobs. I still think that you should start taking your psych meds and then move the F out of east nowhere, NY and come join the rest of us. LOL
I'm an amateur, but this is one reason why, on any significant engine work, even a timing belt, I take a month of weekends, remove the motor, and do the whole thing. PLOT the piston positions with each and every valve opening and closing, and I know exactly where the machine is in the 720 deg cycle. Nice time to do that rear main too! But I chalk all that time up to education.
So I guess that saying " If I can do it " , you can too isn't quite right judging from that guys engine build

Im take a guess they didn’t line up cam shaft and crankshaft timing marks.
On all Honda engines there is a ground strap that goes from the engine block to the head if you do not hook it up it’ll never start.

If they took the heads off themselves and already did a valve job then they can take them off again and redo some work 😂😭
You always spin an engine over by hand after a timing job, at least a few turns to make sure it is in time.
