We recently did a video demonstrating how to take a voltage drop reading on a 99 Chevy Tahoe that was having some really strange issue because of a bad body ground. This is a follow up after the repair. - Enjoy!

Our country needs more folks like Mr. & Mrs. O and their family, hard work and determination pays off in the long run.
I wish I would have looked here first. Just replaced the alt thinking that was the problem. Looking at grounds now. Thanks man.
Just bought wiper blades for my Silverado…right around $50 for the pair. Just sayin'.
Hey eric I have a 04 Chevy 1500 and I am seeing a voltage drop only on the accessory fuse block, am I correct in thinking that more than likely it is a bad ignition switch, since accessory power comes from the ignition switch.
Thanks for the video man it helped me out.
Thanks!
How many ground wires does a Chevy suburban have on it.
I have a 2005 tahoe and the voltage drops and the ac doesnt work but if i leave the windshield wipers on it brings the voltage up so i can use the ac..any idea what that could be battery is good and alternator is new
I have no idea if you answer questions or not. I have a 05 PT Cruiser that has a PO562. Low voltage. T I took the alternator to have it tested. Tested good according to their machine ( I don't know the voltage) but when it was running. The voltage was jumping around. Any Guesses? I am thinking the alternator is charging but not enough…thanks, Greg
I one of those special question that would make n awesome video
02 Chevrolet avalanche
3 to 5 after turning off something on the bottom something thumps like
Something hitting the metal with the back of a screws driver
My friend has
Chevrolet tahoe n its doing the same
Have change charcoal vent valve n sound still there
Rest in peace that guys wiper blades
I am getting too many volts to my amps I tried unplugging a plug on the alternator and it did work it made the 02 Tahoe run around 13 volts and did not throw my amps and protection but I was going to work and everything died lol imagine that. What I was wondering is there a spot where I can only get 13 volts instead of hooking my power wire to the battery maybe hook it inside the fuse box would that make a difference I haven't really tested it with a voltmeter just curious if you know off the top of your head. I think I'm going to have to get a volt regulator to put in between the battery and the amp somewhere
Your video makes a very good question that I deal with in helicopters almost daily. Is it a system problem or an indication problem? I have a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville 3.8 who's ammeter bounces all over the scale. The power provided does not seem to change with the variations in voltage. Safe to call it an indication problem?
The classic reach around!!!!!
Was the voltage gauge going from like 14 volts to 9ish? That's what our 08 Tahoe is doing, that's why I'm asking you this, could my issue maybe be the same?
Outstanding!
I am still unclear as to why you don't want a ground wire directly from the battery negative to the body. I have no objection to a very heavy cable running from the battery negative to the engine block, in fact that is needed, but why do you want the body ground to come only from the engine?
Eric, you and Mrs:O are doing great video''s and spend the time showing regular people and Techs how to find the problem, plus retesting that's it's fixed!!! " your videos are a great refresher,
Plus still learning, after 55 years doing what you do…I thank you for all your videos, Your
a one great Tech and Thank you so mcuh..
Voltage drops! Only thing worse are INTERMITTENTS! GREAT VIDEO! Thankyou.
Mister O , during the voltage drop testing , you brought out a case of accessories for the volt meter , how about some info re carding that box of diagnostic goodies……. thx
I rarely guess what the fix will be at the beginning of these videos, in this case I did and didn't disappoint myself! I think I am 1 in 4. I only guess when I have personally seen similar issues. (on a side note, Eric does a pretty good job of explaining voltage drop even though he professes otherwise.) Ah crap…another side note…(Eric has a better understanding of electrical diagnostics than most techs, yet he never went to school for this and is self taught!) Great Job Eric! BTW…I noticed your wife and son in a couple vids, wonderful family! God Bless you and yours!
Awesome, thanks out of the park !Now I know after 15year
For fun, you should check voltage drop at the ground point in the trunk ! I bet it will be a lot more.
nice video to point out the need for a good complete low resistance ground path. I have a grounding tail. my friend had a 58 corvette at idle the generator would charge. revving up the engine the ammeter would go – and lights began to dim. Tachometer showed gererator spinning properly(tach drive is off the generator). I grabbed a piece of wire and connected the body of the generator to the battery – . problem went away. we discovered the generator mounted on rubber with the only ground path through the belt tension strap. bolt on water pump where it connected to engine was loose and rusted. Tightened bolt and added ground wire to generator case to improve design. Car has a 375 hp fuel injected 327 and is in the hands of his son after his demise in 85. we were friends from the age of 4. He was an honest mechanic. well loved but not rich.
You and Scanner Danner have the best informational videos on Voltage Drop testing…thank you sir!!
Dat Chevy gots 250k+ on it, though. Doesn’t it?
How is the old Autel working?
Nice video, I learned something today, thanks for posting, know how to check voltage drop now!
Fickenchevykeys!
Hey Eric, you didn’t show how to fix that something squeaky problem…
The old classic reach around, there's definitely plenty of that going on when you work on vehicles.
👌🏻
I'm happy Eric. Where's Gavin
Lol
Would that type of ground not being connected affect the pcm from being able to communicate with the scanner and also not let the check engine light come on ?
Fluid film? Liquid electric tape?
Thanks for follow up vid.
great job
all videos are great but don't do everything for my problem i have a 2003 yukon can start fine but went the temperature go up it start to run bad end sometime stop running can someone. help.
Nobody needs a SCHOOL ANYMORE like I'm tired of reading books, this is straight to the point, I don't know who this Idea was of teaching on the Internet is Perfect I'm 65 right now I'll be 66 this month a little bit late I don't care Thank you my friend
Thanks Eric!
Another fine video
This just goes to show, it's always good to stay well grounded.
you need to do a blooper reel
Why don't the manufacturers make the ground straps of normal cable so they don't disappear in 10 years? Ground straps are designed to fail.
Love that GM fuel gauge at key-on – BOING!! 😀
Amazing what a path back to the battery does for electrons. Everything is happy. 🙂 Thanks for the follow-up!
will be playing with voltage drop this afternoon, got a john deere not starting and possibly cable joints or remote solenoid internal contact bad so few readings at different points should help diagnose .
load test between positive battery and body frame ground also
I love sma. Always the best videos.
Drop it like its hot!
Another good one.
I’m satisfied….
