We some times get a seemingly simple diagnosis we can't explain. This is one of those times. This 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac came in with an ABS light on and a not functioning Right Front Speed Sensor. Simple right!? -Enjoy!

Exactly why I never wanted to be an engineer, I learned their were tolerances and values that I would never understand.
Shove a Q-tip in the hole and clean out the crap in the hole
If you have lighting that uses ballast sodium or florescent it can induce noise into the body of the truck.
You know the issue is the sensor or crap between the sensor and the wheel
the signal isnt strong enough i think the sensor isnt near enough to the moog hub to see a good signal..that or the hub has got alot of stuff like salt stuck to the hub ๐
Could of tried removing the shim on the week side may have increased the wave. if there was still clearance.

What if you already replaced one brand new hub up front and the same abs issue is happening? Abs light had been on for a while, drivers speed sensor wire was cut for atleast 2 years, 2003 ford explorer sport trac xlt finally the bearings started to roar. Replaced drivers hub yesterday.
had that problem on my 01 sport trac (your one explanation)
no abs light on but abs kicking in coming to a stop.
Had to make a habit of starting to brake like 10 feet++ prior to where I normally would.
or else I would rear end someone or go into the intersection
mine the breaks are coming on and RSC BUZZ AND ALARM IS COMING ON THEN GOES OFF I PULL ALL 4X4 FUSES AND IT WILL DRIVER but RSC still comes on with tc abs lights
Sometimes older Mook hubs get magnetized and stops the wss from reading accurately. I had the same issue and found that out by chance!
If the cables going from the speed sensors to the abs module were disconnected at the abs module, then any dc bias source in the abs module would be eliminated. What screen capture software you using for the Pico video inserts? Quite well done.

greetings friend i'm from venezuela i say bad english i use google to talk to you … I have an explorer 2010 4.0 v6. I have abs lights on, skidding, handbrake … the scanner code b1342 error or ecu error appears. The module was sent to be checked on a test bench and everything went well, I tested the direct positive 2 pins (1-32) and the direct ground (16) on the abs module cables as well as the positive one for the suiche. I also tested pins 12-13 of the 61 ohm given by the two module communication pins … I would like help with this friend please something else that I can review. here the situation is difficult to have experts … the 4 abs sensors are perfect the scanner allows me to see that they work perfect …

Regarding Moog and being Chinese made parts. Guess who else is made in China? OEM parts are. GM, ACDelco and all of them. Parts are Chinese. Even though Moog is associated with a large mother corporation, they still are good parts as any other. Just my opinionm having much experience with trying to get USA OEM when I can and finding the OEM part boxes labeled China.

Ok. I haven't finished this video yet but I gotta say that when you see a DC offset from a device that isn't supposed to generate DC, two areas to investigate are thermocouple effects and chemical effects. A little bit of salt in the wrong place can do it. Did you measure the DC resistance of each sensor? Did you check it's impedance? Did you measure if that ac waveform generated can stand a normal AC and DC load? Your scope won't provide a low enough impedance to check that. There are three other way-out sources of a mysterious DC offset. One is if you have a badly oxidized connection AND a lot of random AC (generally high-frequency RF) field nearby. The scope won't display the RF cuz the frequency is too high. But the oxidized connection will rectify the RF yielding a mysterious and variable DC voltage. OK. That was weird enough. Here's another: a malfunctioning electrolytic capacitor. I don't think wheel sensors have those. An even weirder one is if you are dealing with something radioactive that spits out a charged particle. They do make laboratory current sources out of Carbon-14, for instance. I doubt this is your problem.๐ But seriously, you should compare the left and right sensors into a decent load resistor not just measure their open-circuit waveforms which is what a scope does.
Moisture, Salt and different kinds of metals ( copper steel etc. ) and you have a battery. Probably moisture leaked in with the salt. Viola, voltage offset. ?????
I wonder how well an undercarriage car wash would do in those salt areas? Justs deposit your money, drive over the special water jets and flush all that salt. Could do well during the winter, maybe not so much in the summer, except for mudders.
My brother in law, who is a retired Marine, would flip out watching you hammer with anything other than a hammer. He's really strange about who and how his tools are used. We all have our little quirks.

Iโve been coming across quite a few moog bearings over the last couple of years with improper gaps on the wheel speed sensors. The Chevy bearings from moog have been the worst.

Clean your file with a piece of copper pipe — flaten one end of the pipe with a hammer, then you can drag and push the end of the copper pipe on the file. Let me know how it works for ya. I need to do it again on mine.

Does the computer ignore a sensor that it deems out of spec once a code is thrown? Not a professional mechanic, just a Q.
Iโve run into 3 times in the past month and have no idea why the ABS module isnโt liking it? Sure itโs a little low but I thought it should eventually pick up. Interestingly all 3 bearing were the same manufacturer of low line bearing. Hopefully if u find the answer please share! Itโs baffling me. (And Iโm sure my boss would like a proper reason as to why itโs no good, other than โitโs junkโ lol)
I've never been a fan of ABS or airbags. I don't need a bunch of feel good "safety" equipment.
I have a suburban that had about 750-900 milivolts on three wheels and one that put out about 300 mv and it was tripping my stabilitrac during acceleration I used a caliper and the air gap in the hub was within spec. I tried closing it up a smidge and Also tried a different abs sensor in the hub and still same result. So replaced the hub and it worked putting out the Correct voltage.
I see the comments about two metals and such, are they talking about the shim and hub?

Hello Erick I had the same problem with a Honda Civic check all with pico and omhs as well as the harness changed the hub bering for an (aftermarket that the customer brought as well as the sensor) and no change. my solution was to replace hub bering sensor front honda dealer.
Hey Eric kinda of topic here . But i remember u replacing tires on a car and removing sticky weight adhesive with some kind of disc. Do u remember what video that was in? I cant remember bud, also what kind of disc did u use .

The reason I suspect the module is not able to read this is the circuit needs to raise 0.6v above and below zero volts to switch the transistors on and off. The DC voltage offset could prevent this from happening. Capacitors are used inside the module to ensure this toggles around the zero volt line. It's great how YouTube can be used like a video IATN.
