Let's have a look at this 97 Ford F150 with the classic P0171 "Lean Bank 1" code that seems to happens to these Fords more often than not. Typically it is a vacuum leak at or near the manifold but this one turns out to be a bit different. -Enjoy!

I would think the holes in the manifold would not draw air in based on the location. The exhaust would be under high pressure forcing air out not in. Where as any other point beyond where all the tubes join would create a draw “in” as the pressure decreases and passes a leak hole creating a siphon.

I was wondering what the brakes felt like 👍
This guy loves that money light.
I just had a local garage tell me that a new MAF is $275 and $170 to install !!!
Rock auto: $22 cheapest and Denso OEM $61. 2 screws, easiest ever to reach. 4 minutes.
2001 Toyota Celica. What is wrong with this picture ?
Since yr brakes are normal it’s the gasket between the master cylinder and booster. I had the exact same codes on a 07 Impala I took the m/c off and that gasket was torn Replaced it it’s been good to go
One question, if an injector wasn’t putting out enough fuel wouldn’t the LTFT increase rather than decrease with more rpm’s?
very helpful
Thanks for the update 😀
What was the fix?
Bad vídeo
Was this an ad for break Kleen? 🤣 jk great video very informative. I have a 2000 F150 with the 4.6 and it’s near the end of its life this video was great I’m having a similar issue and really considering how much I want to actually try
Is it the problem?………Its a problem. Haha. I like your sayings.
My 2002 5.4 showing that code with a rattling noise !
Dealing with a similar issue
so where is this vacuum leak hole under the truck?
That truck has the all Aluminum metal intake…They hardly ever fail. As my van has the same intake with 200k miles…They have never never leaked..But the hose after the huge air filter likes to come off….And for some strange reason. It only throws a code for Bank 1 when it come off.
Great videos, very informative about fuel trims and leak down test.
Enjoyed the video! Helps greatly to try to help diagnose where my problem(s) may be. Have to look for a smoker! Have the same engine on my 97 F150 4.6 1997. Just paid 500 to get the drivers side exhausted manifold replaced. Runs better. Though. Now get a P0171 and P0174…. Things just start snowballing on these 20+ year trucks. Suspecting a lazy O2 sensor as they are OG. Also, just had the OG intake manifold solder/patched. Love/hate relationships anyone?!
Regular cab short bed 4×4 v8 5 speed with a camper to top it off ideal truck if you ask me and the information you give us is great thanks for the quality content
Intake leak? No problem ! Flex-seal will stop that leak! Spritz spritz! No more leaks thanks to flex seals revolutionary secret formula!!!
28 minutes for a code
seriously there is a const epoxy in big tube I use all time on metal, plastic ,concrete wood ,it
is pricy…… but the best ,@ white cap
Use tanker truck of epoxy,,,,dip lower part o truck… perfect. then sell.
Good video
What about negative ltft -29?
Great video covering many possibilities.
I learned that I may not repair it.
I have a 1998 F150 4.6. When I give it gas, it gets even more lean. New fuel pump, filter, and injectors. Where do I check now?
Right to the junkyard
Would someone put some oil in the crankcase?

CHECK YOUR O2 SENSOR BY THE MANIFOLD!!!! that fixed my light even tho the code says to replace maf sensor
I have a 2003 with the 5.4l. Bank 2 lean code p0174. Fuel trims are high on bank 2 with not much correction with throttle. What could be the problem?

I was chasing a 171 and 174 on a 03 f150 5.4. Apparently the pcv was sticking open. New one fixed it!

I definitely wouldn't be spraying brake cleaner.. dries out hoses.. use propane

I got P0171 P0340 P1309 P0174 which is Bank 1 too lean/ Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction/ chassis acceleration sensor too high/ and Bank 2 too lean, along with what I think is some sort of knocking sound, the truck idles rough and wants to die and jerks when driven did I blow my engine? It's my only transportation to college and I'm worried
