In this video we show how to replace the wheel studs, repair the flat and replace the rotor on this Ford Explorer Sport Trac that had the wheel run loose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjolaWXrhH8 I later found out from the owner he had AAA come and change his original flat! UhOh!! Always double check your wheel nuts folks, this could have been a whole lot worse!

I’ve got a tutorial on my channel for those installers that use the wheel nut. I use an open ended/spare wheel nut for that just in case.

I can't help wondering how Eric's liver handles all the chemicals he absorbs every day. I absorbed a lot, now at 70, my liver is less than pristine.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Puig says:

So this Ford driver picked up a nail on the road, pulled over and put the spare tire on his Ford. Then he forgot the lug nuts let his Ford down off the jack and drove down the road for quite a few miles and screwed up all his studs and the rusty old spare tire rim. lol

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Red Toberts says:

As I got told. Never lube wheel nuts. Saved this guy.

Greetings from northen Sweden and a fellow mechanic,, city buses, cars, snowmobile, boats and you name it.
I have been watching some videos and this one I felt I had to comment.
Would you belive it if I told you I do that thing the same way you did it.. First time I used a torque stick I thought the nut driver broke when it started shaking 😂
    Stay safe and take care.

I had switched over my winters to summers on my 2013 Ford Escape AWD. I torqued them down and the next day I drove to work (50KM) and retorqued at work. About a week later had a loud noise in the car. Pulled over as I thought heat shield came down. Nothing. Kept driving and developed a wobble. Pulled over again and found 1 stud broken and wheel almost off. 2013 Escape does not have stud only replace so had to replace entire Hub and bearing.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ted Bundy says:

A Iljin Moog branded hub assembly made in Korea you don't see them much anymore. Most Moog hubs are Chinese made now.

I was at a shop and guy walks out from back and asks…… what way does the header go on?

Isn't it self explanatory? That's what you get at most shops.. Nissan sawzallled they plastic to get to oil filter on moms car.. like wtf

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chad Alsteens says:

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars hillary clinton says:

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tyler James says:

One thing I miss about being a mechanic is mounting and balancing tires. Always thought it was a fun process.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dbz Legends says:

You can install studs with a grade 8.8 or 10.9 nut a steel bushing and a thick nylon bushing if you don't have the kit. The nylon bushing will act as a bearing so you don't mar the hub.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Bond says:

Damn! Reminds me of the time when I fit a wheel to an old Ford Pinto. The hub cutout was a little too small, so I just tightened the nuts down evenly, as tight as I could get them without warping or stripping anything. Later on, I was in a parking lot doing about 2 MPH, and I heard this clicking sound coming from the rear axle. My passenger told me it sounded like loose lug nuts. I said: "No way! I just put that wheel on yesterday, and they were tight!"

About 500 miles later, as I was exiting the freeway, I felt a bump, heard a loud bang, and watched my right rear wheel pass me on the left. I managed to remount it using the three remaining studs, as one had sheared off. Embarrassing and dangerous, yes. But I did learn a lesson. Never install poorly fitting wheels. I was to lazy to get another rim or grind out the hub hole, or else this would have never happened.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ed Watts says:

I liked the brand-new boot on that crusty half shaft. The shock absorber looked pretty bad, too!

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bryan Toth says:

🇺🇸Hey Eric, what are your views on using new pads on old rotors and vice versa? The people have the right to know.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom Sawyer says:

I didn't understand why you replaced the brake rotor. The damage to it was not captured well in the video. It probably did need changing, it's just that the damage was not illustrated well in the video.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Timothy Cox says:

Ever run into this before. Pulled transmission to find out why clutch was slipping on cousin's 68 f250 2wd 390fe 4speed truck he inherited from grandma. Paperwork in glove box shows 3200 miles since install of engine 20 years ago. Found wrong flywheel installed with flexplate bolts, and no pilot bushing 😳

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bishb25 says:

Had the exact same thing happen on my old sport trak. The lugs were torqued to spec! The problem was the spare rim. It was so nasty from being under the truck for 15 years that after driving a few miles all the rust fell off and left the wheel loose. I caught it right away and didn't do the damage that was in the video, but I carried a torque wrench with me and checked the lugs constantly after that until I could get it replaced.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars porksboy says:

That brake cleaner isnt as good as the old stuf Trichloroethane. Killed the ozone but it worked really well.
Oh, and dont spray it near a running engine.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dalton Merritt says:

There's such a thing as a"Wheel Stud Installer Tool????" I've installed many studs and assumed my method of seating them by impacting down an open end lugnut was the latest, most innovative way to do it! Haha!
