Come along with Eric O. at the SMA repair shop as he swaps out the 3.8 liter engine in this high mileage 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan that has a P0303 Misfire and has started to burn coolant. I am going to break this up in a multi part series to help keep the videos shorter.

Massive job! Your skills are amazing. What an education for anyone wanting to work on cars. Thanks for all the hard work and explanations!
That is really great work. I would have just took the engine out if that far great job.
Like the sit down with your daughter and the Rockauto magnet collection as a backdrop.
This whole time I thought this was a 2005 not 2008, have a 2003 so I watched for so long the wrong vehicle..lol
learned allot and see things can and do go wrong
I'm amazed more folks don't use waterless coolant.
Since not sence ….
I love your channel. Best teacher ever. I just did the trans solenoid unit on our '10 T&C. Because I have CP on my left side
I had a miserable & very long time with the exhaust cross over pipe reinstallation. Any suggestions on how to get the nuts & bolts started. is there a "glue" maybe the way NASCAR teams secure the lug nuts. Obviously not silicone. Any suggestion would be great.
Hey sweet Volkswagen bro! Surprised it still has the 3.8 must of been the first year of new body style and had some old engines to use up b4 they turned it to the 4.0 that burns hella oil and blows up
This was an awesome video series…now I'm off to see the Chevy truck engine swap 🙂
Really enjoyed this series!! I have one of those that just came in. I am going to pull out the top. Really appreciate these vids!! And….. No rust in California. Also, all electric. No hose to mess with. And large pit. Up and down access and free stairclimber..
That start-up idle needs some work.
lol cars made out of plastic and rust. I love it. lol
Good job all back together and no parts nuts or bolts left over.
Gotta rattle dad's cage lol.
Eric's gasket wisdom: I ran the numbers….and figured this is more economical…to do it this way…ha ha!
Another example of a mechanic with a great work ethic and integrity. Nice work.
Made of Balsa wood and Plastic is right.. But hey.. They got granite counter tops and real leather seats..
That little red click gets to tell all the other red clips about it's journey.
This engine replacement to my understanding was a royal pain in the behind I wouldn't have done it.
He knows the engine battery and hood prop .. he might be overly qualified as a dealership mechanic
The biggest destroyer of these engines in my opinion is cheap Oil Filters….I only use Manufacturers, Wix, Purolator and a few others, and the reason is the cheap filters for one, don''t filter…. but the number one reason is a poor anti drainback valve, which allows the engine to start with absolutly no oil in the system….which hammers the rod bearings leading to a destroyed engine in time…..
lol . watch eric’s eyes as mrs O walks away ! lol. HOT !
those few minutes you spent with those boys they will remember their whole life . you have no idea what influence you make on their minds . so good to see someone giving enquiring minds time and conversation . well done
I just binged all 5 videos and I feel like it's been a journey (not a Dodge Journey but a Dodge journey). I know I'm 4 years behind but I'm commenting for the algorithm and to say great job, Eric.
how much was the spray nozzle?
you definitely married above yourself. but don't we all. she needs a pay raise.
my problem is remembering where each bolt and clip goes to hold things in. thank God for the camera on my cell, if i remember, and figure out what to photograph.
One of the best vehicles I ever owned was a 98 Dodge Caravan with a 3.8 engine, I put a better breathing air intake on it, some Bosch Platinum Plus 4 plugs and synthetic oil and I was getting 20 and a half in town and 31 and a half on the freeway, if I kept it to right around 60 miles an hour. It had originally been a Federal Marshals FBI print vehicle, the first 200 of made in the 98 model year were for the federal Marshal Service. The company that made the front rear bumper pages had Chrysler make them one of those for them and that's the one I got the 201st one off the floor in 1998. And it had a custom paint for the Dodge Caravan. And got one really good fuel mileage period And I sold it with 256 thousand miles on it. I finally did have to rebuild the transmission, and that was at 211 thousand miles.
I wonder if the transmission has already been done in that vehicle because at 173,000 miles it's about due to go south in the next year-and-a-half. The one thing I did do it mine is I picked up a transmission cooler out of a mid-2000s Ford Explorer and put it into the transmission cooling line, the lower one so that it would cool the transmission fluid a little bit more before I sent it back to the transmission. I did that right after I bought it at 46,000 miles and it lasted a long time. Especially for the way I drove it for the most part.
Oh yes and as I watch you put the towel back on I see that it's got the famously absolutely stupid and unnecessary long wiper blade on one end and a short one on the other. For no apparent reason whatsoever except to piss people off.
My experience with the Chrysler Caravans and T&Cs I've rented is they fit people perfectly, but they steer terribly. The wheel is heavy, and they don't center well.
Great series keep them coming really like the mini series!! More please!
When you started the video I could not stop watching it I was so amazed and watched all-five . Eric when I I looked at it this job it looked like panting a packet fence ,that was 5 miles long with a 1” pain brush that was a peace of art. Thanks so much or videoing this .⚙️
Struts, maybe ball joints.
Got a real decent motor
the 3.8 has so much more power than the 3.3
It's 4 years later, now I wanta know how those neighborhood kids are doing. The older one should be close to driving age by now.
"I ran the numbers…."
Kids gettin the mail
How does the scanner connect to the engine?
I conduit
You said in part 4 you have a mechanic you recommend in New Jersey?
My advanced auto sucks too, they didn't even know what a torque wrench was.
He tighten down with a impact factory spects lol his "factory spects " are the same as mune
Enjoy these engine swap series the best of all of the videos you do. Thanks!
auto repair tips are great – but time spent with the kids is priceless. Oh and you are my fav stand up comedian – loved the rant on AutoQuest lmao
You can't even hear my 6 speed 62te shift. I have to put it in manual to know what gear it's in even. Smoothest transmission i have ever owned and when it locks up at 80mph it gets 30mpg. Hard to beat really until something goes wrong in that vvt engine. Ever worked on one?.
Holly crap man! Big job.
That was some serious work, but sorry, dodge= scrap it.
Sweet rock auto magnet collection
Did I miss for a poured out that contaminated coolant from that jug
