Well the description says it all. We have this Honda Civic 1.7 that got towed in with a "crank no start." It was an easy mystery to solve though...

Great video !
I like what you said. So I'm installing a piston cuz I had a bearing take a poop in cylinder 3. Well since replacing said new piston and getting it to timing it's still not working. But how am I gonna check things after I try things unless I turn it over to see if it starts. So kudos that was nice and made me feel better about feeling stupid as dumb as that is to say haha
Lovely . Mrs O
I changed my original timing belt on my 2002 Honda civic at 110,000 miles in the year 2016… And don't ever cheap out on the timing belt. I once did a Chev Aveo with a cheap no name timing belt. It lasted about 30,000 miles before it broke and half the valves smashed into the pistons.
Hii!!! I would really love if you give me an advice for my Honda Civic 2003. It turns on after 2 seconds when is on it turns off. the only way I turn it on is pressing the gas pedal then it does not turn off. I replace the crankshaft sensor already, and it did bot solve the issue. I would love to hear you suggestion what would be the issue? Thank youu
what a beautiful dog
I could see those marks fine right away on the scope, just fyi
Edit: you did in the last 3 minutes. Right after I made this post. 😁
Please tell me the options and cost to repair the engine. If anything, the cost to repair. Thank you
Another example of where a timing belt versus a timing chain really sucks .
plz help
i have one that has that same sound as if the belt has broke but it has not. its in time. getting fuel. getting fire. crank sen replaced. cam sen replaced. tell me why it sounds the same as the car you work on in this vid and still wont start
Eric did you roll crank over so all the pistons were down in bores so when you were turning cam with the wrench the valves could no touch pistons?
You have had better luck than I have on not bending valves on a Honda timing belt I would say that out of 10 Honda's that 7 have had bent valves.
I suspect the belt broke slowly, and that the noise was interference happening before the engine quit running. I wonder why Honda put a timing belt on an interference engine, knowing the consequences? Hmmm…
Buy it off the customer for scrap value put a timing belt on it and a rebuilt head sell it out the door
The owner should have bought a Toyota, instead, as Toyotas are non-interference engines.
To properly do a leak down test you need to find TDC, with all valves closed and go in firing order, mabey different method? Confused on 1234?
Just disconnect the wire on that one injector so no fuel enters cylinder 1: voila! 3 cylinder car.
Doesnt cranking a motor with bad belt. Cause a failure Interference motor
Argh! So unnecessary… 🙁
Who the heck doesn't change the belt at least once in 160,000 miles?
Why do you not use magnetized sockets?
That feeling when you drop something and don't hear it hit the ground. Or you hear it hit the plastic shields. Hmph
Takes me back a few years ago. They pack everything in such a tight space. Glad to see you didn’t have the antilock brake D block behind the washer fill. My 2002 with 238k miles had something get into the main pulley, tore the time cover to pieces and gasket slipped the timing belt off. Bent 4 valves, and I was reliving my adventure of doing that very job watching your video. Of course I’m old school so no fancy gadgets just the standard knowledge of sounds and mechanical sense. Great videos!
It's because you have an amazing woman👍👍
The engine was already toast before the Belt broke. Because like a true Hondon't owner he never did a dimes worth of maintenance.
Ok Who has the Engine Fork..
Used Hondon't Engine 134K miles $885 for basically a boat anchor. The Honda cult is long wide and deep.
$2200 for a reman ouch.
Now you are seeing the problem with buying a used HONDA, The owners drive them till the wheels are about to fall off and then sell them. Never buy a used Honda with over 100K miles on it.
Dead at under 200K. miles. Should have bought an American car.
Love my 2.4l honda crv with a timing chain
A second hand head would have been the better option in my opinion. save the customer a bunch of dinero.
Maybe keep cranking it and bend the rest…
Most technicians would do a visual inspection before cranking it….😂
I like the tools you use I bought that 1128 air ratchet
The sound of money
I know this is an old video but you talking about your tools . I had never herd of astro tell your handy baby ratchet that was zipping off things it shouldn't have even tried . Well my point is I now have dropped snap on and use astro. They should hire you .
At 165k, the civic should have had the timing belt replaced once and due for a second replacement.
Those EM2 civics are garbage. The D17A2 is a boat anchor of an engine. Terrible. They're good candidates for a K series engine swap tho.
Anybody who asks me what a good car is, I tell them a Corolla with non interference engine.
Stay gold.
I hear no Compression boss… hope the piston ang valve didn't kiss each other…
The pistons won! We had 14 1983 Ford Rangers with the 2.3L that were non-interference engines. I think Ford recommended 60K on the timing belt life and about to the mile the belts would break but no bent valves.
Question: For a financeail example for everyone, how much would it have cost to replace the belt only @ 50,000 miles earlier compared to the cost now? Let the dollar decision drive the: to replace, or not to replace. This $ decision would be helpful to many of your viewers.
What would happen if u just change the timing belt? I don't understand ur just saying it's junk
Nice video! Any idea what the noise might have been that brought him to the shop before the belt broke?
Its rough when the repairs are worth more than the car
The car most likely would have been salvaged had it not been driven at the onset
Alot of times Honda's will jump time 1 tooth then snap. Usually at high way rpm speeds. Usually bad news. Cheaper to fix than new car payment. My 95 EX 350k still going. Rebuilt twice myself.
That air ratchet sounds like majoras mask when you hit her. Lmao
Love your videos I learn heaps!
