A pleasure to watch a pro, looking at a '99 RV with a Triton v-10. Rotten exhaust manifold bolts are a nagging issue with these. This convinced me that's not happening.
Outstanding vid Eric once again!!! Always enjoy watching your vids, donโt worry about out of focus camera – we still get the message!!! Great help for a wannabe mechanic lol. Thanks again!
It's great
Check out the current class action lawsuit on ford manifolds. You can join the group and get some revenge and rewards.
Not worth the cost for SS or ARP studs?
I know this is way late, but hoping you got to feeling better real quick Mrs. O.
๐๐๐been there several times good job buddy๐
In some parts of the video, using a head light would help light the area upon which you are working. Otherwise, it's quite a good video.
Another amazing fix, thank you for taking us along!
I am not looking forward to fixing the exhaust leak and missing rear stud, drivers side of my 2009 6.8 F350. Thanks for the helpful tips Mr O.
On engines that routinely broke studs off (Nissan V-6s come to mind) I used to send the manifolds out and have the flanges planed flat. They'd been heat cycled enough by then they were done moving around, and upon re-assembly it seemed to end busted studs for the most part. I quit wrenching a long while back and never worked on one of those V-10s, but I wonder if planing the manifolds would cut down on those busted rear studs.
Anyway, great pair of videos.
Next time bring in a professional get yourself a good dentist they know how to do extractions perfectly and they enjoy it especially when I donโt have to supply any gas.
Idea….. Use a center punch same size as hole…. Might work
How about a link to the ez out
Well, here we areโฆ6 years later and Iโm wondering if you have seen this F250 back in the shop for manifold gaskets again. Or maybe you know if the truck even made it another 6 years?
A lot to be said for down south and like of rust. If you cant center/drill well own plenty of helicoils. They work in a pinch.
What was the torque spec on the nuts?
I cannot imagine the bill for that job! Great work๐๐ป
I was going to tackle this job myself. After watching these videos, I am just going to drop it off at the mechanic and give him a blank check. ๐คฃ
Does Ford use inferior metal for their studs? My Tahoe had 252,000 miles on it and all of the manifold nuts backed right off. Zero broken studs.
what make of stud extractor is that…
What brand of easy out/extractor is that?I want one just like it๐
I learned a different way to remove those broken studs on a newer GMC. You get a nut bigger than the hole and mig weld that sucker into it. If it's below flush you can fill the hole before welding the nut on. Usually the heat burns the rust out and the nut turns them right out.
Just want to thank you for your CV axle GM video that helped me change mine on a '94 K1500 that was from rust country. Great videos that have lots of helpful info on dealing with rust belt vehicles.
I am so glad I found your videos. Iโm starting in the Uhaul mechanic dep in two weeks. And they have to extract manifold studs at least 3 times a week.
ned a drill bite from heck not harbor f
Boy Mii O has to feel the ruff hands of a Mechanic, need lots of lotions
This job would be a real !!!! working on jack stands
I imagined you were Luke Skywalker with that music….aiming to hit centre of the death star…and BOOM…hit the target…bolt cae out….great vid
What type/brand socket extractor are you using on the manifold studs?
His invoice is going to be more than that rust-bucket V10 is worth!
I hate removing exhaust bolts no matter what it is on.
The engineer's that design cars and trucks should have to be an auto tech for five years before they are allowed to design a car or truck to learn how not to build something.
Great job and good video!
great video. so glad we don't use salt where i live…. so many things would be dead from crusty rusty.
Excellent video, thank you!
Is there a point to removing the studs if they're not snapped or stripped? From my understanding a leak is caused from the gaskets deteriorating.
Ford & Nissan truck manifolds are the worst!
Man I love the content, but that Family content was good too! Keep it coming and be safe!
Its a good thing SMA on Youtube wasn't around when I was in college.
That being said… wanna do another one? Asking for a friend. lol
Iโm from South Dakota and even with all the salt and snow the underside, suspension, and driveline on my excursion look nothing like that thing. ๐จ๐จ
YOU ROCK !!!!!
Pain in the studs man..helluva job!๐
Man, I wish I had half your patience. Love watching your videos. Nice to be able to watch a video without all the f-bombs.
I have an f350, same situation, what should this job cost to have done ?
Excellent video thank you I have to do this all in my yard over a a brand new which I did buy 8 by 4 piece of plywood and it looks like I'm going to have to do some tool shopping maybe a small compressor and some air tools if I want to do the job like you did do it correctly get it done my main concern was watching a video and seeing it done with the engine in the vehicle actual job thank you and all your video you could see all your work being done exactly what you did good job dude
have you heard of ez stud out check it out pal
