Come along in this video as I see what is plaguing this 2002 Honda Civic Coupe' and find out what is making the check engine light come on with a code P0131. Once we see what the problem is we dig a little deeper and have some fun with the scope comparing "scan data" vs "real time data" with the scope and scan tool.

Hey Eric, good stuff. Older video. I have an Autel maxisys and would like to know if the quality of the Autel scope is any better. Understand lower end scope. Thanks.
Help I just bought a 1997 Honda Civic with engine d16y8 . That came with code P0141 code . I’ve checked my vehicle and I’m missing the bank 2 . Is capped on the exhaust and I don’t see a connector anywhere . Any help to correct this issue ?
Can a bad 02 Sensor cause a car to shut off at Idle? I have a 2005 Civic.
That groind wire…
Hey man I have a 98 Honda Accord lx 2.3 4 I have a po420 and now a po131 code I had the p0420 first I used cleancat and now I have the over code my Honda has 195 thousand miles can you show me something I can do to fix it ??? Thanks for ur channel love the content keep it up south main auto
good watching you work some guys on utube are a joke
Great video, thanks for the information!
Am here to learn ✍️✍️✍️
Thanks for being honest about your diagnostic tools. You Just saved me a boat load of $.
Thanks Eric. This helped me diagnose the upstream o2 on my escort zx2. It was so lazy after the car was warm, almost same exact problem. Would dip down to .1v very very intermittently causing a buck when the engine speed was between 2300-2600rpm. Restarting the car would fix the problem for a bit but it would act up again. It was driving me nuts forever because it never threw a code….
Ground wire is pretty much gone
Cool I enjoied the diag
My O2 sensor one has a flat line and a voltage of 2.1 is this normal or something very wrong?
what's the issue? I still don't understand if you have found the issue yet.
I can upgrade this Verus to SSD, if you still have it, I can explain to you how to do it or look it up online. My Verus Pro is running great after I upgraded to SSD.
2002 hondo accord p0135 code, checked heater circuit good but no 5 volt from fro ecu ? broken wire ?
That’s one of the best cars ever made.
What’s a good car scan for diy type work
Brilliant video to help a even a novice who's keen to try learn a go thankyou 😊
start another channel railfan that powerful shit!!!
P0132 Circuit HIGH VOLTAGE?????? THANKS
On that snapon tool. I could make a norton ghost backup so if you have issues you can restore the image or just clone the hard drive. Hit me up id do it for cheep if you cant.
Here is a humdinger for you
I have a 94 Honda Accord standard 16 valve I have a code 21 I do not have a VTEC. So what's the problem?
seen a few videos suggesting cleaning the oxygen sensor for some related codes? can you even do that? one method uses a torch to blast off the soot, something you can do when you bench test it. another soaks the end in gasoline over night
Free ASE training. (Except for that windows 8 crap-on tool)
I got a problem the Car crank and no star
The error with the Varus you're getting is an OutOfMemoryException. This is mostly harmless in terms of the function of the device. Its almost never an indication of a hardware problem in something embedded like this and no need to send it back to snapon. Generally its a software issue due to attempting to do too much at the same time on the device. Either you're overloading it or the software that runs on it was done poorly. Anything on the scope that involves history like taking traces or having lots of browser tabs open will eat into your maximum working memory. Closing down programs or restarting the device should help free things up.
Great comparison. I'm surprised at the comparison with the old sensor. Apparantly the PCM is putting out a signal, but checkout the 02, not good! Great Video!
Do busted O2 sensors cause bad fuel mileage? What can be the consequences if left un checked?
I think that Snap-On should buy that tool back from you for the price you paid for it including all the repairs and then go find one that works from a different company. I'd be quite upset with that them if I were going through what you're going through. It's just not right. You shouldn't have to pay for repairs on a faulty piece of tech.. I'm angry just thing about. I've got to give you credit for being so level headed about it.
Thanks for another fine video, I really appreciate the effort you put out put them together.
Scan tools should have the thumbwheel like a Snap-on scanner to turn up the idle.
He trys to sound like eric the car guy, anyways good video thank you!
WHAT MODEL AUTEL R U USING
What if you had a heater code and put 2 new o2s in and still have heater code?
excellent video . always supporting us with your work greetings from Mexico, hopefully one day you can put subtitles in Spanish, so you can understand more the videos greetings 👍
where did you connect the leads to check the heaters wires
What’s the PN for that scanner?
I learned a couple things on this video for my new Autotel Maxsis Elite! Thank you
How can you tell if the CAT is no good anymore?
Great stuff eric o as we say in ireland your shit hot bud
When you say the STFT is pegged out at a positive number, does that mean the ECM is adding fuel because the O2 is dead or stuck lean? Thank you. I enjoy your videos and have learned alot from you.
I know this is a year old video but I couldn't help myself. I noticed the upper rad hose on that Civic looks bad. may be camera is fooling me.
Can u turn heater on with scanner
We just had the muffler replaced on our '99 Honda Civic and about 2 days later the Check Engine light lit up.
The ODBII gave a reading of P0131.
Is there a chance that the work they did on this might have caused this to happen?
I reset the error, but still need to drive it around a bit to see if it comes back.
Thanks
Hi, I have same code P0131 with my Pt cruiser. I think my sensor is old. Do you think by replacing the sensor can fix the problem ?
Thanks
I've seen that difference before, comparing scan tool live data vs labscope. I've assumed the difference is a result of a bottleneck in the communication rate between the PCM and the OBD output data port. The PCM is sending a sample of the O2 sensor readings, but of course random infrequent samples of a moving target fluctuate. I like to think it's not an issue with intake communication of the PCM, because otherwise the PCM would have trouble interpreting the info. The OBD port is not part of the regular function for the PCM, the port is there just so lowly humans can glance over the shoulder of a computer. No reason to communicate at top speed.
