In this video you get to come along as I diagnose a no start no crank issue on this guys 1998 Ford E-150 van that was traveling through town from Texas. You will also learn why I have a hatred for crappy aftermarket add on garbage.

Great work as usual. I thought I was the only one that would fix things like striping out loose wires and fixing loose battery boxs. It's called pride in one's work, seems to be something that's lost with most people today.
Texas is known for the word
-BIG–sometimes when its citizens mess up, they do it in a Big way, this wiring job. looked like a Rat Nest…This video is why I won't put in an aftermarket starter in any of my rides. I do have an aftermarket stereo, from previous owner. I cleaned up the wiring so I could make the best of the situation.
How are you I like to ask a question I have a 1992 ford econoline e150 5.8 and I can't find the crankshaft position sensor does it even have one
Yes , no rust but hot as f-ck
A great fix
MADE IN CHINA PARTS ?????????????????
Banshees are not hot, they make really bad noises that scare the poop out of stormy nights and have long dripping fangs and a mysterious ghostly appearance. Not hot but so cold and murderous. I'm Scotch where they hide out.
Not all aftermarket 12 volt installers are equal. Not all mechanics do a great job as well.
Eric what is the dewalt number on that flash light
thats a nice tool, looks like a stripper, cutter, crimper!
i am having sorta the same issues with my van now, but I'm not sure what happened because i did not do any work on the van it just stopped working, ill start at the fuse box thanks for the Vid very informative !!
My 1995 Econoline e250 freak me out today when I turned the ignition and the engine did not start nor did it click but as soon as I try to turn it on the second time it started right up. I hope I don't have to go through that rat wiring mess and hopefully it's something just minor like the relay. Very very informative video so that in case I have to talk to a mechanic he won't try to rip me off in this way I know a hell of a lot more than what I knew earlier today. Thanks a bunch for this video.
We need allot more honest mechanic's like you.
YOU Fixed IT!!!!
30 seconds of commercials at the beginning, not needed.
Great channel
That Texas van wasn't used to those rough NY roads with potholes. LOL
I've put them in before and the first thing that I did was to find somewhere to mount the components to then start the wiring with soldiering the connections and heat shrink the splices.
I bought a 96 Jeep Cherokee had all kinds of electrical issues removed the entire dash found 3 aftermarket remote start / alarm systems
Installed removed about two miles of useless crap wiring.
What a joy to see your old vids have a lot of views, you totally deserve 10 million subs, best YT mechanic channel ever.
Yeah Baby!!! Cut that $hi, I mean stuff outta there!!! That felt good just watching, with the added chuck across the shop. Love your channel. Entertaining and informative.
Like weld helmet
i cant believe ive been using those butt connectors for like 10 years and never knew you were supposed to heat shrink them lol
Wait for someone to bring one of those breathalyzer start units, and Eric cut it out for them.. 😂, how many mechanics have been brought vehicles with breath tester ignition units., and had to blow in them to start them??
billy bobs best mate wired that in for 10 bucks and a six pack
I have a test plug for the obd port that shows me if pin 9 is live this pin should not be live but if you rewire a vw radio you can back feed pin 9 inthe obd port
Eric – do any of your customers get pissed when you tell them you had to get rid of there aftermarket stuff- Tom in Cali.
you just have too damn much fun at your job….wish i had a job that was more like yours
Was impressed with your heat shrink torch ! Nice job & professional !
After market crap, the reason I refuse to work on any kind of Jeep, Jeep owners are the worst for aftermarket shit.
Like your style Eric, if in doubt, rip it out 👍🏼, good job my man 😊
What a nightmare…. Dare I say almost zero mechanics would have actually fixed it, other than just get it barely running again….
Wow, the patience of a saint.
I have had many jobs all related to Electronics and most related to Electrical…I have installed aftermarket gizmo's on everything from Cessna's to Motorcycles, and even a few cars…but I have always followed proper engineering standards…like soldering joints, adding circuits to the fuse box and adding relays where needed i stead of those damn piggyback fuses or window splicing to the accessories/ign wire…because you can bet if the mfg can save $$ with cheap wire they will…now double the load and turn that wire into a toaster element because some chinese kit says you can…yup sounds like a great idea!
You really need to wear a welding helmet be say . Unless you don’t like to look at Mrs O . Your eyes .
10 minutes in, he knows what it is.
Video is 45 minutes long lol
"Oh no…"
hold key on start and shift it at the same time. Mrs. O is appearing to be a perfect wife cause she can walk and chew gum at THE same time. A good woman that can fall in love with a man that works on cars for a living, SHE'S perfect
Hi, Mr. O. But really… What is your honest opinion about after-market "accessories"? Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!
Without doubt the best content and presentation in this arena. Look forward to new SMA vids frequently. Honestly, VGG, KSR, and SMA basically sum up my needy passion for car stuff. Thanks Eric. Wanna wire my body off resto, very clean…cheers 🥃🥃❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ive been broken down far from home and had what can only be called divine help from some mechanic or diyer. Im sure this texan felt the same way. Way to go Mr O
Good lesson aftermarket stuff. Unless it exact fit and wiring matches
Done- see, said the 1% at SMA.
Thank you for “doing it” and no 99% can not do it correctly with that attention to correct detail.
Great job, Eric !! I wish I could find a conscientious mechanic like you in my area. No shortcuts and fixing it right — wow !! What a concept !! Wish there were a lot more like you out there !! I may take a ride and visit your shop to work on my vehicle some day !!
Please wear your face shield when welding
Can you send me a link to the tool you use to shrink the butt connectors ?
Man this video just saved my a** !!! I got my kids to school a little late but I would have never thought to start the car the way you did @ 45sec in the video. I'm so thankful
I've installed a few remote starts and feel I've spliced the wires properly. It can be done, but not quickly . Then I've removed a few of them too. usually the problem is that the stupid brain box begins drawing power and killing the battery. Those cheap crimpers that just flatten the connector should be banned too. My wife wanted remote start put in our last 2 vans. I said I could but wouldn't.

I once got to watch a real auto electrician fit some after market goods to a semi, the instillation was so good you'd never know it wasn't factory, he also read all the instruction manuals and made sure the voltages were correct and would not cause problems. The difference between an amateur instillation and a pro one is like night and day.
Good job you are a honest man..
