In this video I bring you along as I fix this 2006 Chevrolet Impala that has a glowing check engine light with a couple EVAP codes P0446, P0451.

What diagnostic program is being used?
I have a 2012 impala LTZ i’m getting code p0446 also after car has been driven I unloosen the gas cap and it sounds like pressure being released is that related to the code?
This is exactly what was wrong with my 2010 Camaro SS
I just got a 2006 last night
Mine on 70 k miles same car
What a video….. im a couple years late but I have the same verus and performed your method to the t …my car is fixed without the guessing. Thank you sir!!
Can you put 5.3L v8 into a 3.9L v6 ltz
your videos are very helpful thank you!
Great video Mr owe
Found this to be VERY Helpful! Thanks! I Just wish you were MUCH closer to Oswego NY. Perhaps I may take the 2hr trip one day. Great Job!
another good job sir the money light on again and eat crow ha
Make sure to keep the lube handy for when u write the bill and give it to the feller
Pretty high speed video. Thanks for sharing. I got the P0446 on my Impala, changed the vent but the light came back in so it might be the pressure sensor… Another day for that.
I just want his diagnostic computer
I have a 2003 chev impala i changed fuel filter up and down strean oxygen sensors catalytic converter exhaust tps fuel regulator map sensor and ignition controle module engine light went off but when i test drove it once i got to 60 mph it started hesitating again. What do you think it could be
Eric; For verifying the operation and accuracy of a gas tank pressure transmitter have you considered making up a filler cap with a pressure connection? This could then be connected to a low range pressure gauge or a manometer which would verify the operation and or accuracy of the pressure transmitter, as well using this same connection you could increase or decrease the tank pressure for further testing.
I know this is an old video but and though I don't understand all the voltage stuff I can clearly understand the physical aspect of it… I have a 2007 impala which I have the engine light on, I had it put on a hand held at AutoZone which they hooked it up to their computer and it list PO455 fuel tank pressure sensor… in another box it lists PO 442, and their answer by experts say it is mostly the FTPS … If you would answer this question, I am sure you are busy and I realize you cant answer every Yahoo on YouTube.. lol , but I would assume the location of the sensor is the same as on this 2006 impala.. This was the only impala video I could find… Assuming it`s the same, once I have it down are there any other parts that could be if it`s worth it to replace while I am at it… I really would appreciate if you could answer…I am 66 years old, I really have to fix it myself if I can for financial reasons even though it looked easy as you did it with the host and stand I will be on the ground.. I don't know , it runs real smooth, can that part cause it to not run at some point and could you give a ball part figure on what a garage would charge to put one in…. Again I know I have ask a lot and if you could answer, and if not that's good I respect that… It was a very good video and I have a very good idea of how to do it … Thanks …..
Is there anyway you can tell me what software your using?
Wow that's a skinny fuel tank… I'm accustomed to pulling the big bulky ones that are always full!😖 And can't use the fuel pumps like you used to and use the pump to pump out the gas, dang I miss the old classics
I am working on the exact same car with the exact same codes… this was extremely helpful. thank you.
My mechanic did the same stuff with cap off..
AIRTEX FUEL PUMPS ARE JUNK. BUY AC DELCO OR DELPHI FUEL PUMPS. THEY ARE EXPENSIVE, BUT REPAIRING MORE THAN ONCE ADDS UP QUICK.
I bench tested a fps for a Saturn at 1.6 volts is that too high at atmospheric?
Hi, I'm having issues with my 13 impala. The right turn signal stops working after 30 mins from being on, but starts working again after being off for some time. Any ideas of possible causes?
I had a evap solenoid go bad now if i were working on one Id buy or rent a vacuum pump to check the solenoid u can troubleshoot the solenoid to see if its the problem or its a leak in line between solenoid and intake the hoses tend to leak causing this code too . If the solenoid is leaking this issue can happen too thats what the vacuum pumpp will test.
Just rewatched this because a 2006 Impala came in to my shop "Parking lot" with the same Evap Code Advance had pulled a PO496 too but when it got to me it wasn't there and it also had a Fuel Trim limit reached. I checked the Purge and Vent with the Purge and Seal car chugged but tank sensor never changed it was fixed at 12.66 mmhg and 0.22 volts. Dropped the tank unplugged the sensor went to zero plugged the new one and it went to 1.49 volts. Ran the purge and seal again and all was well. I also gotta plug Eric's video on Malibu runs like poo this Impala also had -18% on Long Term the Alcohol Content was at 22% reset the Fuel Composition and the Impala runs great. Eric You the man Thanks again!
Cool safety glasses bra.
Great info Eric. Thought your video on EVAP was my life saver, but something else is going on. 2007 Impala throwing P0172(Rich bank 1),but the only monitors not finishing are EVAP. Short term -3.1%——Long term -21.1%. EVAP purge 0%…Alcohol fuel 50.2%. All o2's check out.. Do you make house calls? LOL What gives?
Whts the part number for the sensor
Your videos are informative and easy to understand.
But do yourself a favor and throw out that wooden ladder and get a Werner or something comparable.
Your wooden ladder is outdated and dangerous.
I seen a guy fall off one not 3weeks ago.
If you can afford that scanner , you can afford a decent ladder.
Stay safe , your videos are great.
How does it run, bro? I have a 2015 impala limited ltz, 3.6 ltr vvt di..I changed the rear PCV metal breather valve, and front intake manifold(90 deg ).I have a lot of oil in the intake manifold, throttle body, snorkel, and on the MAF. I HAVE A SICK KICKBACK, DOWNSHIFTING FROM 1-2ND GEAR , AFTER ACCELERATION. ALSO HAVE A HESTIATION, FOR 2 SEC…THEN SHE RUNS GREAT? PLEASE help…I thank you in advance FOR your expertize advice , my friend Eric.
The
I hear tweety birds!
Hi, can the car won't start because of the fuel pressure sensor?
thank you
I have a 2009 Chevy Malibu with code P0451 and a strong smell of gas when near passenger rear. No smell in the cab. No other symptoms other than lowered fuel economy. Any ideas before I pull the tank?
How reliable is an impala?
As always great video Eric.
Nice "reach above" on the gas tank Eric
Great diagnosis video.
Needs tires?
Excellent, professional diagnosis and repair!
i have toyota corolla 2003 and the diagnostic test says po451 how much should it cost with labor if i go to the mechanic. hes tleling me 195 is that good price
had the P0446 on my Pontiac Montana. Didn't have any of the tools to diagnose the problem but thanks to this video and the one you did on the pickup truck for the same code I took a chance and replace the sensor with a wells sensor and it cured my check engine light. I did have to drop the tank which wasn't an issue but was able just to reach up and switch the sensor all by feel. Thanks for the great DIYs
Ya I notice that
Error code P0446 popped up on my car, it was the Evap pressure sensor I got fixed & it still pops up saying the same. Now the gas cap I have on the car I guess isn’t the right one so do u think I need to replace the gas cap ?
this diagnosis may explain the issue with my 2010 Aveo; because its throwing the same two codes. (I plugged in my VCXNano with my Tech2Win software, and saw that my FTP readings are even more wigged out than this Impala at -8.64 inches of water, at 3.4V!) unlike this Impala, GM Korea was gracious enough to provide me an access panel to my fuel pump underneath the rear seat.
I'd like to know how to replace the Fuel tank pressure sensor on my 2008 Chevy Impala, is this something I can do myself & if so where is the sensor located?
So, DTC 451 and a faulty Fuel Tank Pressure sensor, caused a related DTC 446? But, there was no issue with the Vent Solenoid ? Is that correct? I'm looking into a 2012 Malibu 3.6L with these DTC's: P0171, P0174 and P0446. One key piece of info my friend told me is the car is difficult to start, AFTER refueling to Full. That to me leads me to believe it's a faulty solenoid [i.e. vapors are being pushed into the engine, undesired, during a refuel, thereby choking the engine]. Am I on the right track? @southmainautorepair
I'll bet the one he took out was a air intake manifold pressure sensor. Someone sold the owner the wrong one.
