In this video I work on a 2006 Saturn Ion 2.4 with engine codes P0300, P0171, P0507, P1174. The customers complaint was rough running, poor performance, erratic idle and over all just "didn't run right". Come along as I check this car out and see what is wrong.

Nice find On the Vacuum leak With the lean Condition good Work Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
How did the vacuum leak get fixed? Crack in plastic or something wasn't tight?
I have Chevy tahoe 2002 misfire cylinders 6 random misfire passenger side driver side is good ๐ข
All I need now is a couple dozen cans of that super secret brakes clean!! ๐คฃ
Thatโll stop it fo show! ๐
Now on to the matinee!
there's your problem lady!
Is the gasket hard to replace? My car doing the exact same thing
Sticking to the basics… love it. Such a logical approach. So simple it's mind blowing sometimes. Lol. Buenรญsimo vid sir! ๐โบ
So hey I can hear a leak coming from the intake manifold of this 2.2 ecotec I'm working on. The only code over got is 303 but after putting a new ICM on I got a 300 and much more violent misfire. Put the old ICM back on and it's back to normal, misfiring only when up to temperature. I'll definitely do the brake cleaner test and go from there.
Hey buddy I have a 06 Saturn ion same motor same exact everything but I have had the car tested at Advanced Auto which that place is horrible and excuse my language but they have shitty parts.. but anyway I also took it to AutoZone an the test came back to be the same thing 1 random misfire an 2 which leads to whenever I stop to put fuel in it and then I would crank up the car but won't run until I feather the gas pedal so I would start it again an fires right up but I have to hold it at 2rpms for 3 to 4 minutes after that it'll run ok but if I let right then it'll stall out but the car did keep on cutting off me sometimes while driving an stopping anywhere but I took some carb cleaner and took off the air intake an sprayed it so now it quit doing that for now just does it whenever I put any amount of fuel in it.
Hey Eric heres one. I dont have the scanner to view live data. Heres the issue. 2000 silverado 2500 hd with a 6.0. 265k on the clock. Very suddenly it starts idling very high. p0507 code thrown. i clean the throttle body properly, use a multimeter to check idle air, and remove and clean it. i check my tps and clean it. i cleaned my MAF sensor with the proper stuff. i check for intake leaks using a flammable spray, and the soapy water way. The engine idles very high on cold start(1500rpm) when its warm its 2000. it stays high when you drive it to. The only thing i havent checked is the PCV valve. i also havent taken off the intake manifold yet. i suspect oil may be in it. Also a side note. it starts throwing a No communication from MAF to o2 bank one. i uplug the MAF while its running. It stays running. I change the MAF. same deal.
Great video
Beer money……Thanks for the video.
what kind of scan tool/software is that?
There was another site where the problem was a piece of plastic fell into the throttle body, keeping the throttle blade open. Taking the piece out so the throttle blade could close all the way cured the problem.
would have been interesting to see the repair on a Saturn
How did you resolve the P1174 code, I got this on my Chevy uplander 2008
whats a good nasic scan tool to have if your doing your own repairs

Thanks Eric, shalom.
I always look on the scan tool to see if the lean condition is happening at idle. if so, then I look for vacuum leak.
So the customer decided to fire the parts cannon before bringing it to you? Awesome!
Is the brake cleaner method superior to the smoke test?
what kind of scan tool are you using? I have 05 ion with intermittent p0171 and p0302.
I guessed right away vacuum leak and/or intake. That's been mysterious symptom lol the plenum INSIDE my intake lol
I've been looking a good scanners. I have a 99 dodge ram. also looking at buying a camry 2001ish. on scanners, Should I get one of the higher end innova scanners or buy that big scanner autel from harbor freight?
Poor performance? ย You are aware it's a Saturn, right?
Makes sense and thanks..
Nice job Eric thanks for sharing
@South Main Auto Repair Eric.. What do you think of them Zetec engines from the Ford Focus, Contour…
do you know how to update the verus? i dont have a snap on guy bought it from ebay works good just want to update
Horrible engine
What software are you using?
Good diagnosis. I'm confused though how an intake leak would cause a lean code, I thought it would cause a rich code because metered air escaping but the determined amount of fuel is still entering the cylinder. Can someone explain this to me?
Nice job Eriic. I enjoy your videos as much as my guy Scanner Danner
Were you purposely ignoring the low 8.8 in hg map sensor reading to pretend like you didn't know what was going on? Lol, that was actually the first thing I noticed that seemed off.
I'm a bit disappointed when your diagnostic vids are under 10 minutes long ๐ jk awesome work man…sweet and to the point!
what if you get code p0171 & p0174 and bank 1 oxygen sensor code..would that be the oxygen sensor causing both lean conditions ?
Wouldn't the video be lot shorter if only you click "Fix it!" button it displayed next to the Code Description ? ย Every time you show that screen, I am yelling "Go Ahead Eric, Press That Button!"
ERIC, nice one double thumbs up.
aย P0174 can be caused by an exhaust manifold leak right?
Man, how would you like to be guy that bought new injectors and solenoids for a leaking intake?
Great troubleshooting diagnosis!
Eric do you ever get anything hard? Lol
I tell ya pid data is always key…u can find just about anything with pid data values.. most scanner now have that capabilities. . But most people have know clue what pid data is…keep up good work brother..c ya
Those Saturn engines are good from my experience. I've recently done a compression test on one with 175K miles on it and it showed 185 PSI across the board. I thought that's impressive! Maybe it was just a well maintained one,I don't know…
Good video i have a 97 Avalon xls with code 125 and 135 and both say bank 1 sensor 1 are they the same air fuel sensor heated can one code be responsible for another tnx
I cannot believe 'the internet' didn't fix that guys car! Perhaps injectors and solenoids were cheaper than a half hours diagnostic? Nice video Eric. I hate customers on Internet forums! The labour rate should double if the words 'on the forum it says…' Come out of the owners mouth!
You know erick .!when u get 100,000 subs..you tube will send a check and plaque!!!keep doing what u doing ull go far!ill be here…the only thing its gonna take a lot of ur time..i can see it on face!but congrats u doing great..like everytime great video!..
