In this video I have second thoughts about my repair I did in the first video and come back to finish the job the right way. I use a "Time-Sert" Part # 2200 Kit Approved by Toyota / Scion for cylinder head bolt repair, to repair a 2004 Rav4 with stripped out head bolts. Please refer to your shop manual for the proper repair.

WD40 actually is a pretty decent lubricant for tapping aluminum.

    Tap Magic is great

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Cunnington says:

There is a reason the manufacturer recommends using WD40. It's a great cutting lubricant for aluminum.

Idk why people do that shit for return used shit!

You guys ever cover your pliers in painter's tape? That's what I do to keep from marring things. It eventually falls apart but it's really easy to peel off and put some fresh tape on. I been thinking of plastic dipping/silicone dipping some pliers and trying that. I've see those bottles next to the liquid electrical tape for years.

    I know, I'm super late.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gregory Thomas says:

    Oh. Hell. No.
They sell me something that has been 1) already opened 2) got pieces missing 3) has already been installed before…they are taking it back!
If I pay for a new part or a whole kit…it damn well better be NEW & WHOLE!
Anything else would technically be fraud.

You had a Subaru that needed a head Gasket? Why doesn't that surprise me… Typical.

1999 Cadillac Northstar – I drilled out all bolt holes then tapped for 5/8 course thread. Installed special studs which are 5/8 by 7/16 fine as 11mm and 7/16 SAE are virtually the same size. They will never pull out again.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D.j. says:

Had a 97 Cadillac De Ville De Elegance with the Y-vin code Northstar engine which needed this kit because of the o2 sensors! Wish I would have known back then! What square head socket set were you using to drive the drill bit???

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronald Johnson says:

That gasket set is a statement of today's society – if it don't harm me, what does it matter? Sound familiar?

Moral of this story.. don't buy a used Toyota with the 2az-fe motor. Car prices as they are now in 2021, I am tempted but won't do it. I'm not a mechanic but I know that feeling of going down that rabbit hole .. hoping you don't screw up!

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill Smith says:

For the down pin how about running a tap down the hollow center and screwing the bolt in. using your little slap Hammer tool to pull it out.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill Smith says:

As the saying go. Why is it the people that don't have time to do it right the first time always seem to have time to do it the second time?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TheUnknownBrainer says:

Is there a video on how you remove the head?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Miles says:

A trick i found with hollow dowels and blind holes is to put grease in the hole to the bottom of the dowel, take a drill bit the same size as the inside of the dowel, invert the drill bit and insert the shaft in the dowel and whack with a hammer, the hydraulic pressure pops it right out. Only problem is now you have to de-grease the hole.

don't blame the customer, blame Advance Auto for reshelving a used item.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars paulaus says:

Jerry's Broken Tap channel has a good video on this whole process with a thorough explanation of the use of the collet etc.

you keep saying what a mess, and youre making the mess. rofl. use a shop vac.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph Carson says:

You used plenty of loctite. Its gonna spread, and more would take longer to set up. Not a good thing for that job.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph Carson says:

Just buzz those dowel pins off with your sawsall.🤣lol

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patrick Hurley says:

There were a few years of Toyotas in the 2000's that had oil consumption problems.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars fubar totale says:

Yep, used stuff sold as new, I bought a pretty expensive surge protector/line conditioner (power strip/battery back up are worthless) and the unit was obviously used, the outlets were dusty and scratched from power cords being inserted multiple times.
Anyway, sent them some Close up photos and they sent me a new one, and I got to keep the used one for my trouble.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Williams says:

    It's called OCD lol

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mr D says:

I feel your pain… same type of people who buy cloths, wear them and take them back, try them on see if they fit, fine, don't go on a date and take it back. Should be like a 15-30 minute rule, no one wants your cooties. ugh….

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mohamed Ahmed says:

    Best video end EVER

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Likes Cheese says:

Had that happen with a DEF injector. Ordered the part and got it, but it was taped shut. Opened it up and found a used injector with a crappy gasket stuck to it. Bastard put a new part on and returned the used one in the box. Thankfully, I found this out at the shop instead of out in the middle of nowhere, where the machine was.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nathan Smith says:

I love this dude! His perspective is amazing!!

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars glen revel says:

for bent dowel pins etc i use a ring size rod, it helps make sure if the dowel is squashed then the rod allows you to make dowel circular again, the benefit of the ring size rod is it allows many different sizes of dowels etc.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill Rimmer says:

Tap it with tap and the bolt that goes in will grab it. Then use a nut and it comes right out. Doing a Scion right now

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Knorr says:

The pins also center the head gasket.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars emvee16 says:

Like they say, I'm a bit late to the party here, but the 2azfe engines were notorious for excessive oil consumption issues. Some of them got overhauled for using like more than a quart in 1000 miles. They should have been recalled, but it was a "case by case" deal with toyota I've read.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars crook038 says:

"Piston return spring," now that's funny 🤣

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Terry Ashburn says:

Me mechanic, dowel pins can get vacuum locked. I would hand grind a small flat lengthwise.I am a retired tool and die maker, get a used machinery handbook has dowels and presses cheers !

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 1337penguinman says:

I've had a lot of luck with painters tape for sealing off holes. Stuff is designed to come off clean.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars HowI Doit says:

I typed to use something but that part new in sealed box dorman plastic upper intake, I was having trouble seating it and I put most of my weight on to try and seat it, one side going down the other side going up so I grab a straight edge and wow the fucking thing is bowed, new in box. I had to use the old one that seated right in with out much effort.

i can hear your little air ratchet crying because you are not using it any at all

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dependable Auto Truck says:

i try to find either bar stock or drill bit that just fits the inside diameter and then clamp. like a dipstick tube on a motor i have a #3 phillips screwdriver that fits most of them

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kyle Roszel says:

You will properly never read this but I put a bolt in the hollow ones that fits tight then use pliers and if stubborn use vise grips the bolt prevents it from getting all bent out of shape

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MikeBramm says:

Here's are some tips: Don't clean the chips off the drill and tap over the engine and vacuum up the chips that can you can. You don't want a stray chip working its way into an electrical connector or between some wires to cause chafing and a short.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars alan humbert says:

I did some looking around on google maps. The reason Mr. O can’t find Tap Magic in not crazy sizes; he lives 33 miles from the nearest city that has an airport. Applied Industrial of Elmira sells it at their location near the airport, to service the planes. From this search, I have discovered Avoca is basically B.F.E

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brent Owen says:

Put the dowel in the head if it has a stop/lip. Then you know you didn't smash it down whilst installed the cabaza.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Martin Kucic says:

I would not want to be the lord of thunder you will wish on them!!!
