Here is a video describing how to repair a noisy blower motor in a 89 Toyota p-up. Now as I mentioned in the video this applies to most vehicles making this noise. They all work about the same. I would have provided information on how to test the blower resistor electrically but didn't think any one would wanna be bored with the details.

I'd like to see the rester but you are constantly waving it around. how does one test the resister rather than replacing parts by trial and error

You can solder the resistor back together instead of replacing it! worked on mine! Or u can replace the resister wire itself, called ntc resister wire on ebay etc comes in different ratings match it up to the profile of you stock setup.

Will a bad resistor blow a fuse. I have a 92 previa and the fuse blows when I turn on the blower on high. The blower fuse is shared with the clock, dash lights, dome light and windows.

My blower motor has lower that normal air output & all speeds work, normal sound.
I am thinking to order a new one from rock auto, but want to make sure it’s not the resistor or the relay.
    Any opinions?

Thankyou…have had one speed, medium high, my favorite, not working for years…or rather it works for a few seconds before quitting. I will now know what to look for and where and hopefully that fixes it.

I replaced the resistor and blower motor on my Tacoma the other day. It had run for about 7 years before the resistor died. I replaced the motor too because it was making quite a bit of noise. After replacing it, I took a good hard look at the old motor and discovered it was covered with carbon from the brushes and didn't spin so freely. This made me wonder if it's possible to replace just the motor itself with a brushless motor? Has anyone here every tried that?

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Rincon says:

I couldn't get the 3 rd screw ,way back up underneath i could not even see it ..

But the blower motor fan had no junk in it , but it still growls when on the #4 high8fan speed setting

Any thoughts..just got the AC fixed blowing cold .But NOT flowing that much not like it use to

This is great information!!! Thank you. I had no idea it had resistors. If I get 0 power do u think the resistor is dead?

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Lopez says:

Is that the same process on a 1999 Tacoma the fan just stopped running

That back screw is a ^$@$:;,,;:"'a.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven Haley says:

My blower stopped all together. If I ordered a new motor would it come with a new resistor or are they usually sold separately?

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Aaron Robbins says:

The floor under the blower motor, AC, etc. on my 1999 Tacoma gets wet after every time it rains. Is it possible/likely that there is water coming through the vent, or clean air intake, and leaking somewhere in the system?

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars catchemalive says:

Where exactly is the resistor located? I have an 89 pickup too but don’t see it? Do I have to remove the actual fan and motor to see it?

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Cindy Floyd says:

Great video. Just bought a blower resistor to replace the 30-year-old original–2 of the 3 resistors were blown.

Felt like I was watching the video over again while doing it on my Tacoma, thank you very much saved me a 200$ quote from a shop I’m never going back too

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hardyellow says:

If I had it to do over again, I would remove the glovebox. This will give you more room and also access to the fan bracket bolts (not the three that hold the fan in), which, by removing, will give you some wiggle room to drop the fan out and replace.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hardyellow says:

If you in fact decide you want to do this yourself…her are a few tips. It just took me four hours. Our posters makes it look like a cake walk. My truck is a 1992 Toyota 4×4 extended cab. The three bolts that are holding the fan are not Phillips Heads they are 8mm. The rear bolt/screw is the problem. You can't see it without a mirror, it's next to impossible to get you left hand in there. I have a ratchet that the handle twist, the only tool I could get on the bolt, no room to ratchet. Getting the fan out is tough, getting it back in is even worse. You actually have to squeeze the plastic blades to force it in. The resistor is easy …two phillips head screws. NOW, the four speed fan switch, I'll take it to a Toyota Dealer. At least they'll be able to replace all the little plastic parts in the panels they break. Lou's Garage won't have them on hand. Hope this helps some of you…good luck.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hardyellow says:

I've worked on many cars all my life. This is one of the worst jobs I have ever had to do. The fan resistor is no problem. The back screw is almost impossible to take out (and put back). The fan does not just drop out, getting it back is the worst of the job. Good luck. My advice, take it to a Toyota Dealer and pay the price.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Thomas Krupa says:

I have a “05” Highlander. Leaned out a mouse nest. Only high speed on the fan. Need to find the resistor. Any ideas on where it is. Near fan motor?

Speaking with experience there's nothing that will ruin a good vehicle while it's sitting, then rats I leave my hood open, prevents them from nesting in your engine destroying your wiring harness vacuum lines building a nest, I leave a little toilet paper rolled up in a Awad, on top of your engine you'll see if there's any activity in that area same of the Interior they always go for that soft easy nesting material, and you either need to bring your cats are some pellets to protect your investment
