I might understand if it was a $2000 repair but a tire is about as cheap as one can expect. He probably will go out and look for another used tire for 40 bucks. Recommend Craig’s list. I bet he can find a decent 20 year old tire somewhere that will separate again in the first 100 miles.
I see this happen way too often. Tell the customer they need a new tire and they just can't seem to fathom the thought that their tire is junk. Always asking why the tire is no longer serviceable but then you tell them why and they deny all of it. Had one example, customer came in with a BMW 328i with Run-flat type tires and one was blown out. Customer asked how it could happen and so I told them they either hit a pothole or a curb. The guy immediately denied hitting anything and demanded we replace it for free and that it was a "manufacturer" defect and it just blew randomly. These tires are meant to be driven on flat for only a short period of time as they take the place of the spare tire. Customers just being cheap and didn't want to spend money
Wow. Looking at the front tires it looks like the driver enjoys going well past the sell-by date on his tire treads. 🙂 Maybe (if it's a front-wheel-drive car) he likes to do burnouts at the light. 😛
This type of customer needs reporting to the vehicle standards agency. If every garage like yours had backup of the law and were allowed to detain until fixed then you could price match the cheaper quote and at least gain the sale and work. Ultimately sending the customer out back onto the road safe and ensuring others safety also.
I had a tire do this many years ago. Little 93 Nissan Sentra. I was shocked that a tire problem could cause such a problem. Stopped into Sears the day it started, rolled out with four new tires. It was so inexpensive to get tires on that little car. I even got the decent ones. Should have done it way before that day, though.
It’s easier to spot a bad tire with a high spot just by looking for the most bald part of the tire. Usually it happens on nearly the sidewalls or right on.
Well… Had basically the same problem with my E46 But the shake was even more violent Turned out Front left brake kaliper was seized Overheated the rotor and warped it Was nasty And not that cheap Needed new pads and rotors anyways
The guy really wanted to fix the car as long as it only costs $3. Now he'll have to go sit and wait again wherever he ends up buying a tire and will only save $3.
I get the feeling that you have been ‘discovered’ and are now being used as free diagnosis by the sociopaths that seem to be on the upswing in our society. Love your videos. May the Lord bless you with more people who revere your talents through the complete job!
Amazing – I know others have said it's possible the customer thought they could get a better deal on a tire replacement somewhere else, but it feels so moot when you're already paying labor costs… Good educational/instructional for those who haven't seen separation before
He's going to go buy him a $25 used Tire if you're worried that much about it you could have lower the air pressure in the tire and put it on the back it would have been safer
That is horrendous that this is allowed to leave a shop in that condition. This could be that vehicle that will kill someone because of their negligence. There should be a governing body in place that a garage could report this to.
Some people have Jelly for brains! In my own experience I had several blocks of tread delaminate, The tyre service guy showed me the issue. They were ditched IMMEDIATLY!
It really Grips my Butt knowing that many people Drive with worn-out tires and many more Dangerous Conditions concerning their vehicles–meeting you or your Love Ones down the same Highway…
knew a mechanic that called these cars an 'Itchy Bitchy'
I definitely wouldn't have declined. I'd of had you swap it with the right rear. Less jiggly and out of sight out of mind.
Is there a time when you have told a customer they cannot drive their car out of the shop?
full falcon au 1998 ??
This cars tires are bald and not good inside. He may have wanted used tires but the rear tires are in good shape .Cheapness gets you nowhere.

The tire basically has a hernia.

that 'itsi-bitsi' haa a severe nervous twitch…lol
In Australia this wouldn’t be allowed out of the shop
In the UK, a defect like this that threatens safety, the mechanic by law couldn't release to the customer in receiving condition, no waiver to sign.
So you are letting an unroadworthy car back onto the road ?
Wow. Declined service. What a knucklehead.

Wow. Just wow.
Why not just put the spare on….

That tire is pretty worn out .. The back tires were in good condition tho … Why isn't the passenger side turning it's a front wheel drive car
why is the other tire not moving?

Seems completely normal for a Mitsubishi
Those tires were bald to Begin with
Your in the No state inspection state there is a lot worse out and about you
-Sir your car is unsafe to drive.
-Ok perfect just wanted to make sure, don't touch anything.
Can you not stop the customer from driving it as it’s dangerous

Subscribed. Not because you asked me to, but because you are a great mechanic.
this is new precaution sistem, so you dont fall a sleep while driving.

Front left brake kaliper was seized
Overheated the rotor and warped it
Was nasty

Probably just going to roll dirty after slapping the spare donut tire on it.

An egg head with his matching tyre.

Hope you charged him good for your time.
People pay for a diagnostic service then get someone else to fix it cheap and with cheap parts. I see it all the time.

Great view on the tire Ray.

did you check the right front tire??
Literally unsub because you asked.
Probably went to a discount tire shop that also does the free alignment.
Can't blame them there.
