If you squeeze the radiator hose a little bit while you plug the funnel, it will leave the funnel adapter empty after the funnel is off
1.4 bar radiator cap???? that is way to high. that will cause problems. customer could have used it to patch the headgasket problem but inturn it would have made it worse

I never had a problem until I would have to get on the freeway. Hope that test drive included highway. I’m sure it did ray! 👍👍👍
Some of the Toyota 3.5L V6 engines are picky about purging too. I had a new radiator installed and about a week later, I noticed the coolant level in the overflow went to empty. I filled it back up and took it back to shop and asked them to purge it again. Second time around, so far so good.
Always wondered why he doesn't clean up the engine bay a bit when starting on a car. I do that on my car

The 3.5 can take some effort bleeding but I suspect that consulting service manual on bleeding procedure would have revealed a bleed valve should have been where that failed plastic hose union had been cheap fixed previously. Google images nissan heater hose bleeder. Possibly could have been just a union from factory but that's when a hose disconnect fill procedure is referred or vacuum filling. The overheating from improper fill/bleed procedure could have easily finished the already weak cheap plastic union.
did you open up the heater tap ray to get any air pockets out off heater core
Love your videos and have bought 4 or 5 of your favorite tools! somehow I don't have time to work on my own cars but your bite sized videos are a great substitute. A Jeep I had was an 18lb system and after the leaking radiator was swapped out it found 2 or 3 different little leaks over the next couple weeks i kept playing wack a mole until the whole system was sealed up. Being this one was on the same day on the drive home from that other shop they basically have to eat it to save face and it sucks that most people likely dont understand they are both the cooling system but that part was the next weakest link and there'll likely be another soon. My brother and I have always said click when tightening up lug nuts not sure where we got it but it's always good for a chuckle.

I know it sounds silly, but I did not see you check to see if there was water in the engine oil !!
About the head potential cylinder leak: could one not put the car in drive and rev a bit, with full breaks? The would yield more compression and therefore more bubbles, is my theory.

They should because they replaced a radiator without seeing that it was most likely a misdiagnosis and she was charged for a radiator when the little plastic connector is all she needed. This little thing for you is why people don't trust mechanics.
Kudos to you Ray for not throwing the other shop under the bus. As technicians it is real easy to put blame on anther shop to make your shop or even yourself look better. That is how shops get bad names. Good on you Ray, I think you needed to hear this.

Integrity in a mechanic is difficult to find these days. Some are just poor or sloppy, some are capable, but don’t care. Some are told what to do by the shop manager driven to make money anyway they can. Poor way to do business if your work is good and honest then you will not only earn that customers business, but you will get others to come in because of recommendations.
Get business cards with your shop’s name and you as the mechanic. This will encourage pride in your work and generate business. I would give each customer at least two cards. One for them personally and another to give to a friend. Everyone is looking for a mechanic that is honest and can fix the vehicle and extend its life.
Good video. You found the leak quite quickly. Good find. Explaining what happened to the customer and trying to give the benefit of the doubt to the other mechanic that missed it is fair and shows your professionalism further cementing the decision for customers to return to you. 😊😉👍
i changed a radiator on a mazda bongo/friendee (diesel camper van) once and it took several hours and several cycles to fully bleed the system, this is probably the same. conversely, i once had a 1991 honda civic which had a handy bleed screw on the top of the engine to make it quick and easy to bleed
Your blow gun with stock and reflex sight😂. You should spot weld a cheap oil filter at the crown for a mock suppressor

That vehicle NEEDS a purge release screw at the top of the engine.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 and I’m not well versed with diy repairs so forgive my naive question :
Other comments here are saying to fill the radiator before the reservoir.
Do all radiators have their own cap separate from the reservoir?
Or is my truck some kind of black sheep where the only way to add coolant is through the reservoir?

I just finished working on my Charger RT, the other night. Before changing the timing set, I noticed a slow leak on one of the hoses, from the radiator to the engine. I replaced both hoses. Filled it up, looked good. Took it for a test drive. The noise from the timing was gone. Just felt the need to check under the hood again. So I popped the hood and looked around. Everything looked good. I was about to close the hood and I suddenly see what looks like a puff of smoke coming up on the driver's side, in the back of the engine compartment. I noticed the heater hose leaking onto the exhaust. That whoke section of hose is all plastic formed onto the hoses. So I didn't just need a T fitting, but a whole three way hose setup. Rockauto had the choice of the same style setup or one option was an actual metal T fitting with clamps on all three hose. I chose the metal setup. Still waiting for it in the mail. I figured if the inlet to the heater core was leaking, I better get the outlet too. They both have that plastic molded fitting.
