I bet someone has done that repair before. same problem?
Must have been a capybara. Btw, that's old school electric tape, also good for wrapping hockey sticks.
Conical tips on SOLD-ERING irons are essentially useless
What is required is a 'chisel tip '
In any event – crimping the wires together is the better solution –
and also quicker – and is the preferred method in Electrical trades.
Good video very informative I'll stay away from jaguars
No issues with your soldering, basically, as long as it's not a cold joint, it's fine. Only thing I'd add, as an ex-tractor guy who has seen his share of GREEN wire…. if your gonna use the cheap heat shrink (one without the glue in it), might add a bit of silicone (whatever is handy at hand) over the joint before shrinking it down. Helps keep the green wire rust away…. still no solution for flash light gravity thou, been the death of many a light for me.
thank you ray for me watching you watching
I see you have the new glove ventilation system employed!
they make a razor with a hook only cuts inside the hook so can just hook the opening and pull, slices the loom open and doesn't cut wires.
they have a vegetable based insulation for wires, rodents love it.
Had that issue with squirrels, massive over population problem, 400 removed in 2 months.
It is called " friction tape "
'Of Mice and Wires' – I have heard that some automotive manufacturers have gone to Soy Based insulation on their wires, so they can be called 'environmentally friendly'.
People sweat soldering techniques too much. At the end of the day; conductivity is conductivity, and security is security. Current doesn't care about vanity.
But I do recall one very good piece of critical guidance, specific to high current applications. Keep your wire strands as straight as possible. The more bends, twists, or loops…the more of an electromagnetic field that will be generated at the solder point. So 2 amps or less, and not near any sensitive electronic equipment…I take liberty to secure the wires as is convenient for me. I only go the extra miles of difficulty when current increases and/or in close proximity of other components.
EM losses can also effect sensitivity of sensor circuits. But I've yet to run into those issues in my own experiences.
doodadoodadoodadoo
I don’t know when they started using it but they use soy in the wire insulation and it attracts rodents. I know there were some class action lawsuits about it as well. I think it seems like they prefer injector wiring only because it’s typically in the spots that rodents tend to be attracted to hide in like under intake manifolds and such. Honda makes some good rodent preventing electrical tape. I keep a roll for cars that have rodent problems. They use some kind of pepper in the adhesive.
You need some pistol wire strippers for tight spots like that. Far superior to the one you used. MAC and Harbor Freight both make one in case you want to try the cheap version first
We just spent 2 days chasing 40 yrs worth of badges and substandard repairs and fixes in the wiring loom of a Bedford rascal
Soldering at the best of times makes you creative. I think you need do a great job every way you do it.
Maybe the Fuel Injector wires are “Spicy”.
I am an electrician and never found a wire a rodent chewed through and have worked in the field since 1986. They cause issues chewing the insulation or building nests where wires are to keep warm. The "loom" is different too in my trade. Loom is what was used on knob and tube wiring c.1880-1930. The term come from the fact it was made of a fabric on a loom. Just different not nit picking. Really enjoy your videos. Now I need to change the master cylinder in my 2002 GMC 3500 van. Any tips? *Click* ?
Very good soldering job!
Why not order and replace the harness?
Tape on the injector circuit wires makes one think that a human was there before the rat.
Jaguar is great about packing a whole lot of “stuff” into small places……so small that even after removing the “stuff” it is still tight quarters.
What is reee? Like I get it means to complain and hate on his work. But does it stand for something?
HI Ray you could use a heat clamp to protect the insulation
Newly developed blutooth injector technology. Keeping up with the modern times.
you should solider using an oxi acetylene torch lol
Love your videos! Use Scotch Brand electrical tape. It won't get gooey and sticky like cheap tape. Scotch 33 for general purpose. Scotch 66 is thicker and more rugged.
A Jaguar with electrical problems?
Who knew?
Reminds me – years ago, some wires got chewed on my MINI Cooper – one of which was evidently a plug wire…god knows what the others were. It drove – on three cylinders…so I figure I'll limp it the two miles to the dealership. It's a Saturday and as I arrive into the local MINI/BMW/Cadillac dealership – it's evident that the MINI techs don't work the weekend and the dealership is pretty much deserted. So I wander into the BMW area to see if someone can locate a MINI plug wire that I could swap out myself. There's BMW sales guy there so I wander over and tell him "I think a rat chewed my plug wire. Can you get me a replacement?" the BMW guy laughs and says "That might be what the MINI guys would say – but here in the BMW side of the dealership we always tell our customers that it was a squirrel – sounds so much nicer." …then from over in the Cadillac area, I hear a distant voice yell "Probably a Mink!".
.
The wire coating rubber is mixed with vegetable by product to stretch the rubber supply hence the aroma attracts rodents
Do critters prefer certain color wires? Such as might match food sources?
tinny houae, not tinny price, can go +$60,000
looks like this wires were "repaired \" before?
You forgot to coat them in peanut oil.
Aka hockey tape.
I’m helping here, though have no real car knowledge … remove the oil cap for more space.
No test drive…coulda opened it up on the freeway…shook up the other stowaways on board…
Nice cars shame the are all crap engineered
PS; check out schoolys on the internet
and it's a hell of a lot cheper than to your but mired in concret ! .
yes ray there are RV's bild for it but for thouse whoum perfer costom thay/you bild to there needs/whants to fit them/you
ray a tyine home is a 1 trailer with a home (large (40 foot or less) 2 Schoolbus (schooly) as a bace To bild on & in to turn into a home on wheels (large – midum-small buses) 3 motorhomes used for full time live ins 365.25 days a year there are more but you get the idea
Reeeee one bit of advice on the soldering. You should never use heat near the wire. Avoid flux and try to keep the solder away from the job. A better approach is just stare at the wires until you enter an alternate reality in which the break in the wires never existed. Job done 🙂
Looks like those two wires were repaired once before. (electrical tape).
great diag! liked seeing how you got the wire fixed.
Rule number 3: don’t go on the internet.
