I have days like this alot. Nice change on the music.
Beethoven, well i did'nt see that one coming…………………as you Americans say.. 'your the man Ray' !!
So you have both a 3/8" and 1/2" Milwaukee Right Angle impact drivers? Since you made the statement, "see if the 1/2" anvil works better", I assume you know they are the same driver with a different anvil; why would you expect the 1/2" to work any better on a stuck nut than the 3/8"? Inquiring minds want to know. 🧐
Pertaining to the brake job… I noticed no lube on the shims where they contact the pads? I’ve been told lube that contact point and not. Really, what does it matter if at all? Or is it a do it if ya got the time, since this is all on my personal vehicles and not in a shop setting?
Oh shiz, old school LTD
Ray I want to tell you those actuators there is a video here on YouTube that shows you how to rebuild them so you don’t have that issue with them breaking anymore. My son is doing the same thing I’m about to rebuild his it’s very easy but I don’t know if you get paid to rebuild it it will never break again that’s for sure and it also beats the Chinese crap that we get all the time from the auto parts stores God bless you young man take care✝️✝️✝️
When you said 'they' didn't listen and bought you a non OEM part, is the 'they' the customer or your parts ordering department? If it is your side then do they say to the customer 'we can do it for X with this part and Y for this part' and the customerchooses Y becauseit is cheaper and he thinks he is gettinga bargain? If your videos have taught me one thing it is OEM only for me and damn the expense. One question. If this part was provided by the customer then are you paid extra in time for abortive process or still have to complete for the quoted price? Anyone in the Trade can probably answer the last part please.
I sometimes wonder if I'm just watching these videos waiting in anticipation of the phone to ring cuz it makes me smile when Ray imitates it. Doooo dooo do. 😆
I think many newer vehicles use the computer to determine where the actuators open and close? Can a computer go off it's nut, driving actuators hard into the stop and make the clicking noise from gears grinding? I had a clicky click problem like this, and it would come and go. Eventually, the A/C blew full hot, and I replaced the control panel. No more problems.
Not to be "that guy", but those are calipers not micrometers. Souce am calibration tech.
I’ve replaced the one on the right of the center console and the one on the left of it, both sucked getting two and basically required me to be upside down using a stubby 1/4” drive ratchet. I did use Dorman parts and they are still working fine to this day.
Ray the way I see it is even if you preformed the break check before they authorized it you just saved people's lives by doing so . Because a car can run perfectly but if it cant stop then it can become a killing machine for those in it and around it. I salute you for checking beyond the requested work asked to do because you felt something was off .
Subaru engine kinda takes me back to when I was a kid and our old VW buggy engines.
No disrespect intended , but I think the best brake job is from Eric O. @ South Main Auto.
Hey Ray , those are the full metallic pads !🤣🤣
Do you not put brake lubricant on the back of the pads?
Wish I could do a brake job that fast!
I've been watching your videos for a while now and most of them make me miss working in a shop (I'm now a recovery driver) but days like this with wrong parts, people that don't listen and silly little issues used to really bug me.
How many cars do you overheat keeping cool. Get a floor fan
Lord, I long for the days of the 1970s cars with steel cable actuators, on metal arms that never failed and all you had to do was slide the control to heat or cool without all the electronic BS and plastic. But no that was too easy let us make it cheaper and break every year or two. Miss my 73 Chevy Nova SS Lt1 350 CID. Next, they will be making engines out of 2-liter bottle plastic. Humm, I wonder if that is where they came up with the 2 litter measurements and stop that stuff it's CID your not following me with the litter crap! LMAO
they got there 12 bucks outta them pads
Ur worried about pple saying ur stealing from the company for performing unauthorized work but ull steal a customer's gas while u idle I. Their car with their AC on? Lol 😅
Ray, you squirt the new rotors with brake clean, but don’t wipe them. I squirt and wipe till all the schmutz is off, and the paper towel comes up clean. Am I wasting my time?
My trailblazer has the same actuator tick in the rear blower motor. I just unplugged the stupid thing cause they are expensive
I am an emergency room nurse. We deal with frustrating situations all the time. I think your job is harder!
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Plastic worm gears in these actuators fail and cause the clicking noises when trying to move the actuator arms. Cars of yesteryear would have cables that open, closed & moved vents and pretty much lasted forever.
I swear when you derust it sounds like when the dentist is working on my teeth… now the two teeth that need root canals are hurting ;-;
I like watching your videos. I have been training as a mechanic 25 years ago. Reminds me, why I liked that job so much. 🙂
I’ve noticed that you don’t put copper grease on the calliper carrier shims or the tops & bottoms of the brake pads? I’m no mechanic but change my own discs(rotors) & pads & always copper grease the hub before installing the discs & those mentioned above. 😊. No criticism, just an observation from someone who loves your work
There’ll always be ‘keyboard warriors’ who think they are holier that thou & actively search YouTube for ANYTHING & EVERYTHING to find fault with. We get them on our tiny channel. They are the stain of society unfortunately
Hey this is similar to what’s wrong with my car the aircon actuator ( no where near as loud) got quoted $500 to fix it so instead I have my radio up louder 😂
I never noticed prudence the safety goat on your bench. Keep your d@$k in a vice mate 🤙
What's this? No YouTube copyright violation notice for Beethoven's musak? 🙂
What is the pedal on the passenger floor
Don't be working on my car when you're in a bad mood.
Oh wait…. I do all my own work, bad moods or not 🙃
Great video! When you put in the SS abutment clips/slides, you never prep the Cast iron caliper brackets……I always clean the surfaces with a wire brush or file, removing some of the rust. The hardware then goes in easier. Comments? Thanks…Jim
if memory serves from my machinist days( 5+ decades ago), the micrometer you are using is actually a Vernier caliper.
Wobbly escalation is truly the best kind of escalation..
Beethoven…… for a Chevrolet? oh, wait, it's an Impala. so, quite appropriate.
save the Milli Vanilli playlist for the Aveo and Cobalt crowd.
HAHA That is a Student Drivers Car with the break on passenger side. who teaches kids to drive with them breaks
do people not understand that most places you go to for service doa free break inspection and fluid top off lol
When my battery went bad on 2004 Chevy Impala about 10 years ago, all kinds of Relays and Actuators were making Racket, my High Beam Headlights after this would just go off with no notice, you would all of a sudden be driving in the dark…
Ray-maybe some gurarana(?spelling) might help during tension days when you wish it was just a headache. lol 😂 Debo
You and Gravity don't seem to get along that well 🙂
OMG ray thank you Soo very much for posting this video and my Chevy Impala is making that exact same noise now I definitely know exactly what is wrong ty ty ty Soo much
I don't know who makes those actuators but they sell them to multiple US manufacturers and they are junk. On some applications such as Grand Cherokees or Dodge Rams you have to remove the entire dash right to the firewall to change them.
Your vids just make me laugh and put me in a better mood! Please dont ever stop being u!!
If Dorman products are so horrible, how are they still in business?
Yes Ray after market parts suck big time
