So the knock sensor uses a Piezo crystal, similar to Piezo guitar pickups. Did not know that. Thank you.
I done that repair on my brother inlaws cruize that was fun laying on my back on my garage floor, the other fun fix is the thermostat on that car… Ray I enjoy your videos sir and the content… Keep it up can't wait for the next one…
At least you didn’t have to remove the intake.
There should be a trouble code for a trashy interior! Why must a video be about some thing.
Ray, I know this is family friendly but please forgive me. Your uploads rain sooooo much knowledge on us shade tree mechanics out here! I'm a huge fan and you have given me the confidence to tackle anything! Thanks for all your hard work.
I wonder if customers say just install it, no computer diagnostic, because they think you will do the diag anyway and not charge them because they said no.
Aside from dealer parts…aftermarket part's are an affordable way to keep your car on the road. Buying your parts from the same parts store the repair shops buy from..and yes even the dealers buy from the parts stores. So I laugh when a shop states it won't warranty the repair due to the customer bringing in "his/hers" parts..I agree some after market part brands are a better product..better quality..and you'll pay$ for it. If I buy front brake pads at Napa. Then bring them to a repair shop for onstseqq
Go ahead and replace the thermostat housing and cam sensors, you know why. I rarely see the knock sensor code on those.
POS Cruze. Leaking all that crude.
I dotn know many mech that don't constantly talk to them self anyways. It's our way for sure ramble on my man
Personal favorat ratchet right there
You'll love the Cruze diesel the first time a glow plug breaks off and ends up in a cylinder.
Just like an old timer said to: "Always use jack stands and not a hydraulic jack to hold up a car.
Or, you'll never get as old as me."
Ramble On
Ray never apologize for your arm getting in the way.
You're producing Mechanics Porn, don't apologize for the camera sitting on the dresser.
Thanks for the info on the lift. I did not know how they function.
That little o ring holds the whole car you say, simply amazing.
Very nice, safely first, blessings
PIECE OF ADVICE be very careful with a lift with those type pads I had on fail on a Ford van the rear pad failed and almost drop the vehicle off the lift. I have very little trust for the manufacturer of your lift.
The knock sensors in used to (Cummins CNG) look similar. But are super sensitive to not using non-factory mounting hardware, as well as torque spec. Which I believe is something like 17.25 lbft…
I had a manual 2011 Cruze with the 1 4T engine. Just totalled it last year at 220k when I hit a deer. Great car, other than 4 valve cover replacements because of the crappy PCV design. Keep up the great videos!
Yeah, all i'm getting here is parts cannon, lifts are dangerous, don't be an idiot, and something about fries….
Fingering the hole…
Hi Ray. interestingly enough, that car would probably fail its "warrant-of-fitness" here in New Zealand because of the dent in the sill. If its greater than 40mm in diameter it would fail the "warrant" check till repaired or replaced.
I can hear you talking about a the threads of a bolt hole for an hour and I would be entertained.
"Found the hole with my finger"
I dont think you should be sharing bedroom stories at work but alright
Tighten knock sensor to 10 N·m (7 ft. lbs.) you said 15 why twice the torque this is what fucks people up that cant even check oil lol lol @rainman ray's repairs
Even rambling is good!! A lot can be learned/taught when rambling!!
From Australian avid viewer. Feel free to use the following: Hood equals Bonnet, Fender equals Mud Guard, Trunk equals Boot. Also we insist in driving on the left of the road. Ford and GM no longer manufactured down under. Chrysler quit some time ago. Thanks.
Thanks for the lift point tutorial!
I have the same code
Dude needs to fix that oil leak
In aviation maintenance we have to attend Human Factors training and Complacency is one of the biggest reasons alot of bad things happen
Ramble safety about lift safety to install knock sensor
If you ever want to not have a knock sensor code on a heavily modified motor, place an o ring on the bolt between the sensor and the block. Works great to keep a light off when you have a gear drive, big cam, solid motor mounts…etc
Wait, those lift 'feet' do not lock in their upright position? That's pretty unsafe.
You have issues with that phone
A heavy duty mechanic was killed up at the university , he was using automotive Jack Stands on a 950 loader , got squished like a bug . Safety is paramount.
I am bothered by the negitive side of that arguement. What if the cheap new part is defective and the old quality part is still good, or what if both parts are bad? What if both sensors are still good and something else is wrong.
Versus the optimistic assumption that the new part is good and the old part is bad and there is nothing else wrong. As you can see probibility is against the customer guessing right all unknowns being equal . Yes some unknowns will not be equal but we don't know that.
This video is about the value of diagnostics and the safety of the same!
Germans don't build Chevy's , they leave that to the Americans. Never run a dirty diesel. Diesel , die with a sell.
If I remember correctly the oil filter is right behind that alternator, but I could be mistaken.
My daughters 2013 Malibu with 200,000 miles on it has all sorts of idiot lights on but it runs fine. I did replace the front brakes and rotors last month. I want to take it to the part store to have the codes checked out but think like you said that it will just be misdiagnosed and will waste money. Last car I worked on was back in 1996 when I owned a 73 coupe deville. My track record on that isn’t stellar so I’m not bragging.
Not sure if I'm right or not but it looks like those feet for the lift also have slots in them for lifting on the pinch welds but I can also see lining that up perfectly being a complete pain. Thanks for the tutorial. I want one haha
Knock sensor safety.
Thanks for the safety pointers on the auto lift while you're working on someone's rolling garbage can. I'm always amazed at some people's personal habits and how much crap and junk they will leave in their car.
Thanks for the heads up on the jacking points of the lift and it's operation.
Thanks for the lift safety refresher. In my 35 years of turning wrenches I've seen three succumb to gravity. Two wrecked vehicles and one dead mechanic.
Humm… it simply worked. Happens sometimes.
As a mechanic myself; I frequently wonder about the actual fragility of parts such as knock sensors. Because when you take into account a 4×4 production vehicle such as a Jeep or FJ Cruiser, bouncing around at high speeds off road will be far more aggressive to the part than simply dropping it would be. I know you run the risk of snapping the plastic connector, damaging the casing etc. from dropping it; but as far as damaging the internals of the part, I think most parts are designed with shock absorption for the internals in mind.
Sweet. He's talking about safety and then I get am add for Allstate insurance.😂
