Ahhh percussive maintenance!
Lol had to do the same thing with a 2002 expedition. Everyone said there's no way the hammer would work but had to more days of work till the weekend and she made it
I had 300,000+ miles on all original parts (other than tune up parts) on a 5.9L magnum, when I sold it.
Never mind the nater what's with the ac hose ๐,keep up the great content ๐
Good thing there is no such thing as electrons
I feel that way about longevity of brake pads and rotors the original ones far superior
Your A/C hoses look bad
Iโm interested in the cell phone holder in your truck!..lol
Love your beefy rig
"My alternator wasn't nating, so I carried a hammer in the vehicle to repair it your honour. I have no idea how it became embedded in the testicles of that cyclist Sir" Sounds like a defence to me (ha ha)
As regards not wanting to reset your clock after disconnecting your battery. I use a "battery saver" A simple 9 volt battery with 2 fly leads on crocodile clips. Keeps all my clocks and components memory's
Ray it's never too late to figure out that one mustn't tighten any bolts without all being in place first, c'mon man
Ice cold water will do the trick as well๐
Lol, linear impact driver.
The alternator power is based on a good connection with the ground of the chassis or bracket, right ?
Why wouldn't you clean the contact points of the bolts to make sure you have a good ground ? Just asking…
I like to keep as many original parts on my 06 Chevy as I can. It still has the original alternator that has been rebuilt at a local shop, it has also been upgraded to 250amps. Had the original trans rebuilt at a local shop also.

batteries? As in more than one? How many more do you have?
Nice use of the "multi-angle swing press".
My Gemini had fewel pumpes in series withe alternater brush, so raa man tap altonater and it fixing no runnings
Their simpla fix 4our this, these have device call brushe inside, it easeir if you just replaced brushes packagรชs
Nothing is built like it used to be, that's why China has a booming economy and everywhere else is in trouble.
My father-in-law also a mechanic, never disconnect the battery when replacing a starters or alternators.
My mother and father in law carried an AA book of the road in their car. If it did not start they would beat the hell out of the starter motor. Worked every time ๐คฃ. Donโt know if the book was used for its main purpose?.
They don't make them like that use to. Why? Because of being able to lease them. Don't need to make them last. Just make them last 5 years for a lease duration.
Thats a nice crusty hose
Rebuilt Alternators are basically money robbers. You buy one it works for maybe a year or two and then you have to do it all over. Frustrating.
I've never seen an alternator in such easy to replace place!! AND …If It returns to life with a well-applied-convincing-blow of a mallet, then the culprit are the carbons! (easy fix) OH!…and count me for the decals of "please! change me! (the hose)"
Great video watching from Scotland
Nice to see mechanic being honest and showing faults on owned vehicle unlike scotty who says there's never faults with toyota.
I just recently had to replace the alternator on my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was the original one. It wasn't charging my battery like it should and the battery also wore down running on half a charge. Thank God the nator was on the top. Thanks for the video and you have a nice day too.
We have a small unit near me, family owned, that rebuilds alternators etc, better than factory. You need to remove the unit and get it to them for (Usually) next day collection.
That big alternator wire is hot right? Waiting for the big spark…
The 'nator' second personality…'alter-nator'…:-)
is this video some kind of bug fixing? because it's been destroyed by insects.
Thanks for another awesome video. ๐๐จ๐ฆ
Those headlights could use some restoration ๐
got to make an investment on a good power tool for getting stuck in bolts to budge so i can put them back in properly when done. What kind of tool would be best? was thinking of a snap on Right impact but Im not at all knowledgable on this.
It always makes me giggle when your co workers start making the noises with you
So you were using a 10mm spanner…. that makes the nut a 6mm nut
Hammer mechanic
I wonder what a customer would think you beating on YOUR alt like that. "click" Great videos Ray!!
Why not rebuild your original?
'Percussive maintenance' is a useful tool. Anyone can hit a piece of kit with a hammer but knowing where to hit it takes years of experience.
Is there a difference in quality between a refurbished and new alternator?
Your buddy sounds like a dink. He must sign your check. Iโve worked with more guys like that shut up mind your business
Did he just put the power cable on top of the replacement nut provided on the new unit?
why two batteries? great vid thanks for this!๐
I can get a rebuilt alternator for my 1994 chevy truck for about $100. From AC Delco, $300.
