Toyota needs as much maintenance as other cars and it will lasts very long time. Not a magic stuff. Other brands still broken even with insults meticulous maintenance like Rover, Fiat, or most GM
Cry R • If it is s 2006 – 2007 Camry. You have to keep checking the the oil pressure sensor. It's on the top right hand side of the head assembly. It becomes clogged with gunk inside. Not letting the oil circulate to the valve train. If your lucky the warning light in the dash will warn you in time ..hopefully.
Some of the comments are hilarious. Like this situation is in any way, shape, or form the engine's fault. Doesn't matter what brand, if your engine consumes oil and you don't check it…ever. Guess who's fault it blowing up is? Yup! The meatbag who hasn't learned how to check oil level…lmao. I actually have a 2005 Camry daily with about 275k miles on it. I HAMMER that car and generally treat the throttle as an on/off switch. It runs as perfect as could be with no leaks (did a minor engine reseal on cams, valve covers, lower pan, and front main). All I do is check the oil and top off from time to time. Yet so many mouth breathers write off this motor just because of having to do that…how dumb can they be?
"Oh, it's a virtually unkillable engine? Wait…you have to check the oil level!??!? IT'S A LEMON POS!!!"
Believe it or not, I have seen a locked up alternator keep me from turning crankshaft. I was told to get VIN off truck for new engine and decided to check it out anyway. Customer was quite happy.
I came home one day to my apartment and saw a guy giving another person a jump on a Nissan Altima. I would've left them to their business had I not noticed they crossed the jumpers and nearly set his battery on fire. While I was over there I noticed the electrics were fine, lights were on, horn was going, etc but the starter would make a click and wouldn't crank so I pulled the dipstick.. no oil. I guess he had to call a tow truck and probably had a very expensive repair bill on his hands after that.. rip.
My first car was a 1980’s Volvo 240 tank. Old but ran well, safe and reliable. It was my moms and she let me have it after I graduated from High school. So it was summer when I stated driving it. The third or fourth time I used it I noticed the temperature gauge was high, but it was always high, I figured it just ran hot. On one really hot day, I took it on the expressway and temp gauge was shooting through the roof. I got home and the next day it wouldn’t start. We towed it to the mechanic and it turns out the thing was bone dry and the engine melted a bit and was seized up. My dads lecturing me like, how could you drive with no oil? Are you stupid? All that kind of stuff. I poured out it was the third time I drove it, I didn’t know shit about cars then, the temp gauge was high but it was always high, I thought it was normal. I needed a car to get to school so we put a junkyard engine in it. I remember the engine was painted yellow. Even with the junkyard engine, that car always started and ran no matter what. The perfect first car for a mischievous city kid like me. Whenever my friends and I were at a house party the was broken up by the police, we would grab the keg and go out the back door. Driving around with a keg in the backseat, still tapped, still serving, until we found somewhere to take it and restart the party. We did that a lot actually. We usually took off the tap and put it in the trunk. I would drive slow so it wouldn’t get all shook up. My friends in the backseat named the car The Flying Couch.
I don't care how well engineered something is, if you don't keep up the maintenance eventually it will turn to crap. But, most of us here should know this. Toyota makes some of the best cars, but even a Toyota can be broken!
some toyotas have a oil consumption problem after 120k miles. i.e. measure the oil you drain during oil changes and keep track. Dump it when it starts using more than 2qts between changes.
My cousin ran his 4 cylinder NISSAN dry without oil..the engine was pre-treated with MOTORKOTE engine treatnent..we fixed the stripped oil drain plug..filled it with oil & it lasted another 5 years before it finally died..
As the Swedish Chef diagnosed earlier, that engine is quite well and truly Borked, Borked, Borked!
Use a 3/4 breaker bar
The price of oil went up.

This is next level
All it needs is Seafoam. I used it to unlock my engine. It also fixed the rip in my seat and ice cream tastes sweeter.

Jeff Frericks • Thank you. I will remenber that one..
Even a Rolls- Royce could have an engine failure right after pulling away from the dealership.

Someone told me they could run without oil.

Well when people who think you just add gas and turn the key is all a car needs that’s what happens….
I see an NS300L kit in your future…
They are reliable cars, but an engine is an engine and will always need oil!
Oops

Let’s be clear about cars: no schooling as to cars!!! Just buy gas, don’t loose the keys!
It's over, Johnny.
Let me guess, the Camry 4-cylinder about about a 2006-7 blow up like Hiroshima then the dealership will nagasaka to you for a replacement motor
The cockroaches ate all the oil and seized the engine.

Likley just a seized alternator…i always remove belt when checking for seized engine
Done even the scrap man have a bad time with that
This Toyota can kiss the back bumper of my buick lasabre, with its indescribable 3800 engine.
I wish cars were built like they used to be.
Earl whasts dat
Ohh good ol 2.4l 2az-fe
Funny how people are literally cheering a Toyota actually died due to severe neglect.
Drove with a quart of oil in my cavalier for two months no problem. Summer in Arizona.
Surprised me the cam belt is still on it

Oh yeah…. Its over with
Are you turning the correct way? Lol jk
That’s how my HHR died😔 some lessons are learned the hard way
Did you check the battery connections? Lol
Scotty Kilmer: Toyota’s don’t even need oil!
Ray: Yes they do
Me: Tell him Ray!
