Must be nice to just ship it to the dealer when you cant figure out what is wrong. We dont have that option at the dealership. No matter how complicated it gets.
The proper way to hook cables is the positive always goes on first and comes off last. Just so you know for the future. First on, last off.

It seems obvious to me the battery has a dead cell and is toast. The electronic controls run on 12 volts, NOT 11.2, and certainly not 6. Good you gave it back to them. What the hell were they thinking when they bought a Jaguar in the first place? My guess is they'll never get it fixed properly and that's after spending at Jaguar more than the car is even worth. That's why these are so cheap used. Same thing with Mercedes and BMW. On this car, I would say it's all in the charging system. The battery, even your good one is only at 11 volts and that will trip all the fault codes you're seeing. Beamers do that. Even Toyota's do that.

It's a power issue. What? Who knows but if it ain't getting a good 12.8V or more then it'll throw temper tantrums until then end of time.
The last two gas powered BMW's I've had were like this. The battery, which was the size of a small island in the X3, craps out every 5 years and your diag tool lights up with 3.4 squagillion error codes. The usual Duralast battery doesn't seem to have the cajones to get the job done but a new BMW ubersized battery, left to trickle charge overnight before install, always got the job done. Thanks to the BMW forums for that nugget of information since the local BMW dealer wanted to charge me for a new ECU each time.
I do have to give BMW props for putting in cables suitable in gauge for running a whole housing development from! There must be about 300lbs of copper in those bad boys but you can tell that it's been an issue for a while given the multitude of charging points labelled around the engine bay that's away from the battery (in the trunk)
Sorry Ray but you're wrong this time…When a pwm controlled alternator don't see a computer he enters in default mode who provides enough voltage to the battery, tipically 13.8 V. So what you have is a regulator or alternator or a simply plug disconected or broken…And yes, all the codes could be related to a low voltage, and a tranny problem could simply non exist.

sounds like a merc ml270 cdi problem (stay away from ml270 cdi, it breaks)

Never buy a car with all this crap on it. A simple link to the transmission and key start. It's no wonder car's cost so much when they put all this garbage on there when it's not needed. It's some gee whiz selling point.

I always put the power receiving ground on the engine block for contact of least resistance
seems like the alt was on its way out causing low voltage and making every god damn sensor possible in that euro junk go apeshit thus making it undriveable id laugh my ass off if that were the case modern car electronics are super anal about voltages after all.
Had a 2008 xk none turbo and they can give you a lot of trouble! Engine and Tranny are good but everything else not so.
Yo Bud, when connecting Battery Leads, always connect Pos (red) first to avoid excessive spark that could ignite Batt fumes. Disconnect Negative first…

Bet it was just the alternator. From my own experiences with my charger. When my battery went bad my cars system did the same with throwing a ton of codes. Replaced the battery and the codes went away. Since you replaced the battery and still got the low voltage, i would have checked the alternator also. If the alternator was nating, then i would have passed it on to the dealer. But thats me and my own comfort level

That def seems like a complete or near complete electrical meltdown. Can only imagine what that would cost to replace? You literally buy these cars when you can maintain a maxed out checking account. Newer BMW engines have three times the number of seals that an engine needs. Fluids exiting and re entering the engine through brackets, etc. Can someone tell me why the do the opposite of keep it simple, to the extreme. My brother in law has a 750/760 bmw model year prob around 2010 and is burning 1.5 quarts of oil per month. Guess you buy these when money is no obstacle. Weird

Your decision to turn the job away, based on your experience as a motor mechanic was, in my opinion, the absolutely correct thing to do.
Added to that, your further decision to make no charge, puts you in a league of one of the most honest and decent mechanics that ever drew a breath of fresh (or stale) air.
Your sense of "fairness" is a credit to you and knowing when not to get involved is vitally important if you are going to avoid the unenviable task of trying to climb your way out of the slimy pit of doom, gloom and failure.

These Jags are know for their pooo electronics ⚡️my friends one had problems with water getting into the boot and loads of bad wires also his dads Jag had the same issue but his was down to condensation in the boot with again lots of corroded wires.. Some times with these newer vehicles which have a multitude of electronics the battery or batteries needs to be spot-on or things wont be getting the right voltage and will cause you problems. Ray is right it’s needs the dealers**t 🤣
Jaguar are notorious for being a pain in the ass to work on. They are nice cars until something goes wrong and you have to drop the engine to replace a fuel filter or some insanity.

Knew someone had one of these similar top end model Jags(UK) even dealership could not sort out myriad of problems even after 4 take backs and it was only approaching 2 years old, in the end he sold it back to dealership and bought a different make of car, he said never again !

as tough as it is to admit you dont know something and not charging them, you did the right thing and were the more honorable man. better to take the hit on something you know you don't know and pass it on to someone who does, than to play the fool and attempt to "fix" it, but instead completely F IT UP

I've noticed quite a bit how US techs are reluctant to try and learn European cars. I suppose it's not what you see everyday so think there is something strange about them. The fact is they all use similar technology with the odd foible maybe. Perhaps you might have to do a little reading to help find the way to start. But nobody has the time unless they are a specialist! 🤔😜👀

If I owned a shop there would be cars I would decline working on. I think all European cars would fit that catagory. Just not worth the headaches.
Some days, it's cream in your coffee and other days, it's a sneeze and some snot. I commend you for not buying stock in Jag parts.
I have a hard time saying no. I’m assuming the charging system was stewing with everything due to the low voltage codes. Some times you just have to say to yourself “ keep it simple stupid” voltage drop test the alternator check it at the peg and see if it’s sending out voltage your scan tool would have told you if the computer was turning it on. Then it’s just voltage drop. But good job giving it up.
I had a BMW that had a similar issue. It had the battery replaced by another shop and the owner never took it to the dealer to have the charging system recalibrated so it was doing allllll kinds of weird shit. It would drive for 20 mins and then stall and not start, it was throwing all kinds of fault codes and it wasnt charging the battery.
10/10 do not reccomend.

It was a Alternator min did the exact same thing replaced the alternator and it’s been fine ever since
