Ray, one tip..Always strip the paint of the metal before welding. Your welds will be stronger then.
Amazing ? What money $ Insurance Companys waste on repairs. I had an almost totaled car, the after action report from the Body shop stated the car was not worth the costs $ I expressed that before the waste of time and $ to the Insurance Company ! But ? they did not care ???
SCRAP IT!!!!!!!!
Sparks on my nuts!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
NUT NUT NUT 🔩
long nose Vice grip dear sir lol best thing for brakes
Yep, I had a friend blind himself working on a conveyor belt with needle nose pliers.
Try pulling the lower control arm together with the upper control/traling arm next time with the ratchet strap.
I think I have been watching Ray a little too long. At work today (I am also a mechanic) we were pulling an engine from a Sebring and every time I or my boss dropped a tool I would announce "Gravity". lol
Why not glue the nut with some silicon or fluid selant
Yikes. Compressing that spring like that looked like a Darwin award candidate for sure. I think I'd be inclined to use a proper spring compressor instead.
I qm totally impressed with how you can take everything off sos quickly and effortless and then remember the placement and order of everything going back together. Really nice.
I really enjoyed this series Ray. I would think it would satisfying to be able to tear down once in a while and repair the Car rather than routine shop work, which I still find very interesting. One question, for anyone, why the purple nuts and bolts?
I at one time had a full set of wobbly sockets in SEA and Metric 1/4 through 3/4 inch drive.
Try using a piece of wood 4X4 and a floor jack to install new coil springs.
Why don’t you use car spring clamps on the springs egHFS (R Coil Spring Compressors Hardened, Heat-Treated Steel Strut, Auto Suspension Remover and Installer Kit, 90-381mm
I love hard work . I could watch it all day long.
Yeah… lots of reeeeeeeeee…. but I'll cut you some slack…. you got it done with no missing phalanges or other wobbly bits.

Why not use a spring compressor
Hi Ray, Enjoy the videos, would have made the weld holes a bit bigger
Don't worry about the long videos or multi-part series. It helps us peasants understand what you go through to complete a job. I figure the real billable time could be 2x what is on camera because little details take time.
Ray potty mouth
Seeing how that right rear corner of the subframe giving issues removing the old and installing the new makes me think that car needs a frame rack to get it back to square an true. It certainly appears to be out of square and slightly twisted.
One thing that would concern me BEFORÉ doing ALL this Work is how can Oné be suré thé Wholê Body-Frâmé isnt severely bênt out of Alignment
In my day it would have been JB Weld
I’m so confused about the whole nut thing..
Mein Kamph
You could have glued the nut back, just enough to get your bolt in, then when it pulled tight the old spot welds would dig in and allow you to get torque
Here is my offering. 1. For the dent. Put a piece of steel over the offending area and support it with a prop. Lower the entire vehicle (slowly) down until said dent is transmogrified. 2.Captive nut. I've actually had something like this happen. I can't weld, so…Make sure the nut is an easy fit for the bolt (tap it if necessary). Coat the underside of the nut with fast acting two part epoxy. Put the bolt through the plate and the assembly through the hole . Hold the nut and screw in the bolt. KEEP HOLD OF THE BOLT. Align the remaining three bolts and nip them up. Pray. Nip up the offending bolt, then tighten. Tighten the rest. TA DA
I did my cousins car the same way she backed into a Colbert leavening her moms house an bent the subframe an trailing arms I put new ones on it an aligned it fixed it insurence wanted to total it over the little damage it did .
When I was about 17 back in 1977 I smacked myself in the face with pliers cause it slipped of one of the break springs. Since then I always use vise grips.
No spring compression operation can't be made more dangerous by judicious application of ratchet straps.
In terms of fixing that bend, you might have been able to take advantage of the lift arm to carefully apply upward force (only use one arm ginger-carefuling under the deformed bit)
I’ve learned how to weld. I’m not a body man, but I have to say, drilling and welding up through the holes was a pretty good idea! I feel like I would have been stumped as to how to do that, at least for a while.
Sometimes it’s cheaper have everything fixed on a vech
Why not lower ramp with jackstand under rear arm it works for me
Red Alert, Life threatening experiences ahead! Spring compressor tool advised! Also never torque a bolt and nut from the bolt head, always torque the nut !
How much did your part add to the cost?
Ray what school did you go too for your Automotive training or was it on the job training….Because you have many skills that are rarely seen or used anymore…Like the Caliper resurface…..i am 67 yrs old and I remember when you could jump in and close the Hood over you
I busted my lip doing drum brakes when the pilers slip off
Ray what you did are called plug welds exactly what is necessary you were 100% correct. Other than plug welds are usually 8mm.
Hahaha , I don't know if anyone else got that, but if you've ever had to go through an OSHA or IMSHA training class, you have seen the old film "SHAKE HANDS WITH DANGER!" It's a classic .
Awe Nutz.
In the UK angry pliers are called a stillson wrench.
I was just thinking at least none of the body mounts are damaged and bingo, broken nut!
