Ok so the other day I went scrolling through the comments sections. I found viewers were asking me if I had a "Tip Jar", I've never worked for tips before so I never occurred to me. I created a Patreon account after some consideration. I feel that the Patreon community would be an excellent resource to improve and grow the content and community here on youtube. Toe is an easy fix but what about caster and camber what are the fixes for that?

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dajam9035 says:

Wow this is definitely something some average joe can do at home. Damn someone could screw you over by getting under your car and going to town on those screws 😬

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Blake Mickelson says:

So your not having to constantly get out from under to look at the screen, have the shop order the hand held that you can get for the hunter alignment system. We had that in college and made alignments quick and easy without the extra running.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars subbuilder says:

Wow. This is the first time I’ve ever seen myself the alignment procedure. Thank you.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Josh Smith says:

By the looks of the FL fender, they drove that car with a boot on it to break it off. They probably bent everything on the drivers side, so the shakiness won’t go away, probably for ever. You did your best to fix their ignorance.

In the mid 80s I did wheel alignments at a tire shop on an FMC machine with analog gauges. Had to look everything thing up in Chilton books. The heads were wired back to the unit and I had to raise each wheel off the ground to turn them to 3 positions for run out. I hated doing them.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Feelin' FPV says:

Wheel alignments are a conspiracy theory. Also on an unrelated note. My car keeps scrubbing out the insides of my tires.

    😁😁Love your work Brother Ray

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars nhzxboi says:

Crazy. Hunter always coming out with new tech crap. I guarantee alignments I did with bubble levels and light beams were just as accurate. Centered the wheel by eyeballing inner sidewalls of tires. Works every time. Silly silly computerized, expensive machinery. Those caster angles are perfect to prevent pulling….favor the left by 1/2 degree or so and no pulling.. I don't care what the machine says.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Private says:

So much easier than setting up track and alignment on a motorcycle.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dan's Learning Curve says:

Okay, now I need an alignment machine! LoL 🤣😆
I believe I could do an alignment after watching this.
I already have the tire and balancer machines.

Good work Ray but in the beginning of the video at the computer terminal when you were using the mousepointer I was missing your typical CLICK`s. Sadly you missed it…

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael G. says:

Fascinating. I’ve never seen an alignment preformed before. Thanks for the education!

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J says:

You missed two steps – you check and set the tire pressure appropriately, and you place a false weight in the drivers seat to simulate a person sitting there.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ja Or says:

You did all of the appropriate procedures, but you never explained what toe in, toe out, camber, and castor are. The average shade tree mechanic would probably appreciate that information.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars tg crissy says:

Nice… now I know what I'm talking about next time I go to the shop

I had a co-worker who would push out on the wheels so that all he needed to do is have someone press enter to print one all was green. very messed up individual.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mousepad9999 says:

Did I miss the part where toe-in was checked or adjusted or is that necessary any longer?

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Edward Demedeiros says:

    Way cool!

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! vikingthorno says:

When adjusting toe in on the crv you should check the boots on the steering rack for twisting. If the boot is twisted it will be chewed up.

aligned a 1956 landrover a couple of years ago , the equipment was about as old but at least my tape measure was new.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars david brown says:

Think yourself lucky there is no rust, im a mechanic in the Scotland , that tie rod and track rod end would have been covered in rust and probably siezed solid, great work by the way, always been impressed by the way you conduct yourself

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Edward Ball says:

Ok I thought that the first thing to check on any wheel alignment are all the suspension for worn or damage components. I'm not sure if shops have that as a separate charge or what. Can someone explain that to me? Thanks.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JohnG6 says:

I usually get an alignment done when I get new tires. The last two times I went I was told that the alignment couldn't be done because I supposedly needed about $800 worth of repairs even though the vehicle drove fine and the tires were wearing evenly. I finally just chalked it up to being a scam. I'll never know since that shop is now closed

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars August Inter-nation (Augy) says:

Wow Ray, thanks for this video. I’ve been watching for a few months and going back to see the older videos.
I grew up working in my Uncle’s shop, (I’m 55 now), and have down the basic stuff, i.e. brakes, oil changes, struts, etc. since then. But I never new how a wheel alignment was done. Thank you so much for the education. This was awesome!

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cengeb says:

Caster Angle…..related to Castor Oil for the suspension

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cengeb says:

4 wheel alignments are now pretty common, my VW dealer does a complimentary check alignments, to make sure it doesn't need it. if it does, it gets done, so it does create business by doing routine checks… …they have a pricey state of the art machine, meant to be used…

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cengeb says:

Those headlights a BAAAAAD, no light output that's for sure

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Clark says:

Seems like I heard something a long time ago about wanting your car to drift ever so gradually to the right so if something happened to you the car would drift off onto the shoulder instead of into oncoming traffic.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Derik Wright says:

Good job man. You are doing your customers a great service. God bless you sir 🙏😎

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Capt'n says:

I was always wondering how an alignment would be done, since I knew there had to be done something to match the numbers, but somehow I always imagined it would be done "magically" by setting up the alignment via computer. Don't ask me why 😂
It's interesting that the mechanical adjustment, which has to be done is rather simple 👍

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TANINER says:

    Very educational…awesome content!

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Good Old Doug says:

Where I learned alignments the common practice is to toe out slightly on the front left. This is because we have lots of rural areas and many of our roads have a crown in the middle; so slight toe-out on the front left helps keep the car straight while driving with less need to compensate. A major toe-out would screw it up, but the light touch is noticeable and appreciated when driving.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Only Great says:

You the man I just did my tie rods and was hoping u made a video explaining how this works to make sure they did my wheel alignment my toe was off just a slight

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Gibson says:

My first thought is wouldnt it be nice to do an alignment without rust in my way. My second is Hunter provides better screens for doing the adjustments. Of course Wintoe sucks 😉

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bruce Morris says:

blow the horn 3 times when reversing . That’s for trucks anyway.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Harman says:

    Interesting vid, thanks.

By the sound of it there's some serious rope stretch on that ramp.

If the grounding pegs on the ramp were set correctly you could do the roll back and caster swing with the ramp on the ground it would be a lot easier. In any case as the aligner is working in three dimensions, within reason the roll back surface doesn't have to be completely level.

Apro pro of nothing much; I'm not a fan of the "Hawkeye"

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars poorfesor says:

We have came a long way from the wood measure sticks and rods with cups on them to measure toe. Of course all that did was measure front to back nothing to do with left or right.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Anderson says:

Super technician perspective and how it should be done.

Watch out for that tree! F** up the rear aligment!

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Flying Around says:

Good to do that damage walkthru. Going by the sticker on the back of the car, I think the owner might be troublesome. Just sayin'.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars STEPP ABOVE says:

Why dont you use win toe. Makes the process so mich easier

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Dave Something says:

I remember learning on racks that had strings that attached to each sensor… and before that laser pointers that attached to the front wheels. I was happy when we got "wireless" sensors. I miss doing alignments.
