For sale on Facebook marketplace in 3…..2…..1….. I just feel sorry for the next owner who's going to be on the hook for a new engine on his recently Facebook marketplace purchase!
Most of the vids I watch are of very old cars being dragged out of a barn and just made to run again, which is great, but this fella goes right into the engine and explains everything great. He is a master at this stuff. Most enjoyable.
I did several bottom end repairs on the big Cummins diesel engines, even a full in frame rebuild and always wondered if the same could be done on a gasoline engine. Now I know. Thanks Ray. 👍👍
Excellent outcome! I have pulled an engine on a much simpler car ('59 Biscayne), installed the rod bearings, and drove it home before 5 the same day. It's much more of a chore now.
Usually this doesn't work because of several reasons.1 being it egg shapes the rod itself.2 because of metallic substance in oil,cam bearings shot.3 cylinders scarred 4ect 5ect ect ect ect
I wander what the clearance is on number six ? You removed some material from the crank on six. Checking it would have only taken a couple extra minutes. If the tolerance is out of spec this repair job is a waste of time.Might last a week or two .
Haven't watched all of part 2 yet but enjoyed part 1. I do Doordash 11 hours a day and listen to YouTube videos to occupy my mind as I drive. The algorithm correctly guessed I would like this. One question- wouldn't the cost of these time consuming and presumably expensive repairs exceed the value of an old POS mercury sable?
Thanks for this video. I'm in the uk and will be doing the exact same task on my MGZT Turbo. My engine isnt anywhere as noisy as this one, I would describe it as a little loose. I will be replacing the cylinder head at the same time as this has to be removed also to get to the connecting rod bearings, (just one of the quirks of the Rover K Series engine, the bolts run all the way through the engine). This video has inspired me to get the job done.
Watched entire video, and you forgot or didn't show you tighten the nut for the pick up tube. You threaded it on by hand then went straight to the two bolts for it. But never went back to tighten the nut for it. Watch it back, you'll see. I'd bet money it is now in the pan. Sorry for pointing it out, but had to say something.
You forgot to tighten that one bolt up on the oil pickup tube I hope it don't come loose and get into the engine I replayed the video three times you did not tighten it
Just did same on a hyundai Accent 2013 previous owner had just had short block replaced and goofball mechanic installed dirty carboned up disgusting head back on it, which quickly contaminated oil( within 100 miles) with chunks of carbon and spun a rod bearing, I was so pissed. So I got to dismantle and clean head , put new valve springs valves and keepers and two new lifter buckets to remain in spec. Also just for kicks , I put in new Pistons/rings Rods/Bearings and crank bearings, new oil pump water pump timing chain. 1000 bucks later got to drive my new used car, so far so good installed oil catch can and have changed oil 3x in 500 miles. no noise and zero oil burning.
Did u use standard or oversize bearings? I would have tried oversized bearings since the engine already spun a standard, has some wear, and u had to take a little off that journal but not as much as if u were to turn it down.
those 3.0L 24V motors were honestly quick and decently reliable…as long as you change the oil 🤦♂️ lol i used to have a 2001 Ford Taurus SEL with the same motor and i loved it
Nice job. Reminds me of a 85 Toronado that I bought and it had a #5 bearing that was completely missing with only 60000 miles on the car. Well after new crank and bearings it was as good as new until my son drove it with a coolant leak and overheated the motor. A few minutes later and he T boned a 3/4 Chevy at a 4 way and bent the frame on the Toronado. I had my son buy his next car!
Engines seem so unnecessarily complicated lol. Awesome job and hopefully the car sees less neglect going forward.

I did the same thing on my 74 Monte Carlo in 1988 only I was laying on the driveway with the front end up on jack stands. Man, I miss that car..lol.
Some of that material looked like thrust bearing material… Did you look at the crank bearings? What is the hours on this repair
when you torque the caps, one doesn't need loctite on the bolts? Torqued to 17 psi is good?

I would pull the spun rod and get it resized. They can be reconditioned if not too bad.

Maybe I missed it but at the 28 minute mark when he reinstalled the oil pick up tube I think he forgot to tighten the third bolt/nut 🤷🏼♀️

do a video when changing oil , the before adding a engine cleaner and withought adding a engine cleaner , as i do the work

how did you get the broken bolt out of the exhaust?
