Having that attitude is one of the best things to have. It shows what a great and honest mechanic you are! ANNNNDDDD, don't forget to have a nice day!! 😁😁
see i had control arm bushings that were shot so i told the guy to hold off. he is a mechanic that will use parts you supply so i put together the cash for repairs and parts. ordered moog control arms and came back for the guy to do the work.
got the parts cheaper online and work done at a good price. now if mine were that bad id just ask how much just to replace the bushing itself.
I’ve never understood the apprehension of most people to just read directions/ use a torque wrench/ follow manufacturers recommendations.
Stubborn people! “ we don’t need no stinkin’ torque machine!” “Ma daddy done showed me da way! I use a torque wrench on almost everything. It takes 4 seconds and it’s 99% accurate.
Let’s just say I’ve never lost a wheel or stripped out an oil pan.
For only 74k, that thing is quite beat up and warn. But, if your like me you just observe and repair. Whoever it is might want to fix that bushing, they definitely won't like the premature wear on every other component. Gulp
It's actually very common for the compliance bushing to have small tears like that. They are over extended by just lifting the vehicle off the ground as you can see. Just another example of a small time joe mechanic shop overcharging people and giving the industry a bad name…The customer was smart to decline services from this asshole. He has been reported to the BBB for crap like this in the past
"When you take the old oil out. You gotta put new oil in." I couldn't figure out why every vehicle I owned has blown up after the first oil change! Thank you! 🤣🤣🤣
Thought I would share this and you are gonna think I'm crazy however, groaning and slight growling and grabbing on rainy days of brakes is caused by glazed, polished rotor and drum surfaces. I have and old, dull carbide bit on a die grinder to rough them up. Don't have hit every little spot. Nice smooth brake action again for about 5 more years!!!!!!!
Ray, you put the oil drain plug back into the oil pan before you added the fresh oil? I guess this was not videoed at a quick lubrication franchise place? Your place does it differently evidently, ha ha.
not everyone has $300 to drop on a control arm bushing, at least he knows its in need of replacement. and may bring it back on the next time he has funds.. although the aerodynamic mod says he doesnt care too much.. eventually the bushing will completely fail, and he will wonder why his tires are smoked..
Seen to many drain plugs striped out due to jiffy lube walmart type places that there guys dont care use impacts to drive them beyound tight nice to see you not over tighten the drain plug
well I had too on my car and I still have it. Metal grinding noise like your braking metal on metal. Until this day I never figured out what it is. Pads are fine and discs too. It always comes like 30 seconds after you let off the brakes and already started accelerating but only on the first two miles of any drive . Later it could maybe happen but way quieter. Don't know why, there's no braking at this moment. Dust shield is fine too and there's no groove in the disc.
I like how you didn't try to sell him brakes even though he thought he needed them. And you can tell it's had the oil change at Walmart or jiffy lube because all that blue loctite on the drain plug for no reason.
I wouldn’t call those control arm bushings bad when I worked at the GM dealer literally the rubber bushing was detached from the control arm 90% of the time after 30,000 miles.
I'll bet the grinding was a front hub bearing you failed to do a proper road test and on lift diagnose. If you had it in gear with the wheels spinning on the lift you could have listened for the bearing noise. Very common I've replace 100s of those. That bushing was showing it's age but still in good working condition not separated. You can't expect to upsell when the original compliant wasn't diagnosed.
Blue "Torque Seal" on the oil drain plug usually means Wally World.
Bushing stuff is just too expensive unless it is completely ripped and it is metal to metal I won't even bother unless I wanna do it myself.
Having that attitude is one of the best things to have.

Terry in Big Pharmacy Pocket.

I respect your honesty.

here in the uk they very strict any torn bushing or split is a fail mot and many other rules aswell
The customer just wanted a free brake inspection no common courtesy on his part.
You always let your flip socket wobble into your customers rims like that?
Another Great Video.
love how you used torque wrench for drain plug, most will say you dont need em, but its better safe then sorry

My grinding would up being a sticky caliper
Wheren‘t u confused to just use an Impact to loose the nuts instead of using
a drill?
Everyone knows the torque spec for a Honda drain plug is one grunt. Any more and you risk destroying the crush washer. LULZ
More junk control arm bushings made my Bridgestone APM. Company is terrible.
An 02-06 civic with only 76k on it, not even broke in good. Mine has 440k and still rolling fine.

You gotta laugh. The guy doesn't mind a safety issue like a bad control arm bushing. He just wants the car to be quiet.
Glad I'm not the only one that grabs a torque wrench to change oil

“Like a golf ball” lol
"aerodynamic feature… like a golf ball" lol I almost spit my water out
Probably the bearings, easy to confuse with brake grinding and can be intermittent.
Ok
You actually torqued an oil plug? Wow…I mean, yeah, you should…but who actually does?
It should be illegal to let the guy drive out of the shop
Seen to many drain plugs striped out due to jiffy lube walmart type places that there guys dont care use impacts to drive them beyound tight nice to see you not over tighten the drain plug
Disappointed. No UH OHS! LOL. I love it when you say, "UH OH!"
Torque wrench on the drain plug? Quality tech.

AT-205 would have saved those bushings if he had sprayed them 10k miles ago
The faith people place in just doing an oil change. smh
Surface cracks.. I don't see an issue. They will look like that when stressed to their max, but their resting position isn't stressed.
I like how you didn't try to sell him brakes even though he thought he needed them. And you can tell it's had the oil change at Walmart or jiffy lube because all that blue loctite on the drain plug for no reason.
THOSE BUSHINGS ARE OK…NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT.
I wouldn’t call those control arm bushings bad when I worked at the GM dealer literally the rubber bushing was detached from the control arm 90% of the time after 30,000 miles.
That control arm bushing would pass state inspection unless there was actual play in it.
Looking at the state of the interior, I wouldn't have bothered with the carpet protection.
commentor states you got some cheap ass ugly boots like your soul
I knew exactly what model of car this was (and which generation), just by the thumbnail. Had to replace those same bushings on my ex's Civic.

torqued drain plugs, lol!
It's not 4 banger Toyota now those stucks
