I love the active fuel management that gm developed. I have sold so many replacement lifters that they are on back order….again. Dodges mds crap is not any better. All new cars are junk….PERIOD!
This issue is caused by a driver with a wiggle wiggle foot – constantly on and off the throttle in a rapid manner – making the AFM activate and deactivate the circuit in a rapid fashion – consequently causing the issue depicted here. Smart drivers don't drive like this – and a master operator will tune AFM out of the ECM as soon as possible. It is not the system as much as it is a driver with poor operating skills. You would think that if this owner had the issue on another vehicle that they would question thier driving habits – but most of them are completely unaware that they are a lifetime tool.
Maybe you were already aware of this but when I worked at GM they told us when we seen a bent push rod to always replace the VLOM as well (for the cylinder deactivation). They said they were malfunctioning and allowing two sources of oil to the lifter at the same time that causes it to over extend and bend the push rod. They said if you didn’t replace it the the vehicle would have a repeat failure…. ( ask me how I know that…😟).
Do you remember? Pepperidge farms remembers when GM made good trucks that where dependable. Some say the most dependable if that generation. GM was doing well. They talked about buying Chrysler as this Democrat guy was in office around the late 2000s Then next thing you know the real estate market crashed and we got cash for clunkers. GM whom was just about to buy Chrysler all of the sudden needs a bailout WITH Chrysler. And part of that was the U.S government aquiring alot of GM stock. GM now jokingly called "Government Motors" by many with no real idea just how bad all of that nonsense actually destroyed GM internally for good. Everything has been shit since. Now it's all junk. What a shame.
Trivia time: Ask any mechanic, what the most commonly lost socket or wrench size is… If you guessed 10mm, then you'd be correct, probably a mechanic, and spending entirely too much time wondering why that phenomenon exists. I,personally, keep ALL of my 10mm sockets and wrenches isolated in their own little home in my tool box. My theory is: In the wee hours of the night, the other sockets and wrenches……..eat the 10mm sockets and wrenches. Thoughts?
The govt. needs to stop mandating unattainable average fuel efficiency numbers for the auto industry. Many problems with engine reliability can be traced to this insane fixation on fuel economy. Even in the airliner industry , the problem manifested in the Boeing 737 max, due to them changing the whole configuration of the jet engine placement in the wings just to allow a more fuel efficient system/ engine that then required soft ware to keep the thing from pitching up/ down abnormally. And we all know what happened to those planes., with the many crashes .
Very unprofessional , if the steering wheel have plastic on it why did you remove it ? you need to respect the wishes of the owner, he dont want your dirty paws on it as you can see even your nails are filthy full of Grease 😆
I don't believe Ray,this is what we're building?!!!
Seems normal for a GM product.

Guinea pigs the people that buy this garbage. The wrong direction in my opinion for saving fuel and fuel management.
Pushrods? The car looks pretty modern from the outside..
Why are you working on it it’s under warranty

That is why I am looking for a 4.8L non AFM.

Government Motors strikes again!!
Don't eat at the WaWa…
That’s not opportunity knocking!
Breaks my heart to see this happen to such a beautiful truck
Why wasn't it a warranty issue? 2020 with 17,000 miles. Didn't the warranty transfer?
Do you remember?

17000 miles this should be at the dealership. GM is garbage.
Holy crap- that’s a 60k vehicle. No excuse GM – no excuse

guy trades in GM junk 4 more GM junk. glutton 4 punishment.
LS….FAIL !
McDonald's of cars.
Note to self… don't buy a GM, Chrysler, Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Dodge, or Chevy. Toyota?
Why isnt this under warrenty
Covids not real eh Einstein?

GM is garbage, has been for a long time. If you have a 3 year old truck….and the motor was already half junk, why would you buy another??
Great videos, keeping it all real. People need to just watch and learn from your videos and quit trying to be a critic.
Great video. By the way, the phrase you were looking for is "Cheap as chips".
When your extension is wobbly wrap black tape around it
Wouldn't that be under warranty from GM.
Uh, I think the owner was trying to keep things clean. Steering wheel, shift lever.
I think I would run the hell out of it with the bad lifter until the engine grenades. Then give it to G.M for a new engine!
Why wouldnt this issue fall under the 5yr/60 powertrain warranty
Very unprofessional , if the steering wheel have plastic on it why did you remove it ? you need to respect the wishes of the owner, he dont want your dirty paws on it as you can see even your nails are filthy full of Grease 😆
Oh… Discovered the problem, it's a GM product.
So the customer traded in another GM truck with the same problem for this one.
Now that's a pretty even trade.
GM junk.
Is thos not under warranty
Probably lifters..
Bro first time I see Ray's face. And I found his channel like 2.5 months ago
I am surprised no oil on the lifters !
Why is this not at the dealer under warranty instead of an independent garage
Even of I needed one, I’d never buy a Sierra judging by the amount of nearly new examples coming into this shop with fatal flaws!
I would have started by swapping sparkplugs and coils
Might be time to DIsable AFM on that truck, I know I would, have to save a lot of gas to pay for the repair!
Safety glasses don’t prevent explosions. Only fires. Steel toe boots prevent explosions.
Isn’t this truck under warranty? Why not take it to the dealer?
Ummm I guess you don’t tell the customer to take the truck to the dealer for warranty
Have to definitely work on the editing, but you're on your way
