I found out about Fluid Film from the SMA YouTube channel. I used to have my vehicles here in Northwest Ohio hot oiled every year but shops still doing that have become few and far between in the past few years. Fluid Film is the next best thing.
Now, many local stores are also carrying it in aerosol cans so I bought a case of them a few months ago.
I'm guessing you have to take all the plastics off first. Our roads aren't salted so we don't have these sorts of problems. They use an environment friendly solution.

I remember some author who came into some money that bought a brand new 80s TransAm to treat himself. Had the underside CLEAR COATED. Said it was going to protect it. Anyone ever hear of doing that?
It's good stuff, and works amazing for the rust belt cars. 2018 Subaru Legacy…. 4 NEO winters and no rust to speak of. My guy surface sprays and does "inside" the frame and crevices…. takes a good 1.5 hours (including removing the aero plastics and cleanup after)
One time I had my vehicle filmed early fall when the temps were still hot at a shop that also does inside the body panels in addition to the underside. After a few days it started to get hot again and the sun heated up the film inside the trunk lid dripping down the bumper ruining my plasti-dip I had sprayed there.
The best part is that you can no longer smell the stuff, right Eric? I think you said "the 'rona virus" took away your ability to smell Fluid Film. Sounds like a worthwhile trade-off.
Looked like a really nice Lincoln Towncar? Was it? Its supper clean. That baby can only be as young as a 2011. (last year of production). She's a beaut!

There is a 'NEW' product made by PB Blaster, called Surface Shield. It tested better than Fluid Film.

I hear cosmoline (spelling?) and CRC Heavy Duty Rust inhibitor works a little better since they dry to a waxy-ish consistency.

14 year old daily driver, Michigan car, apply this stuff each fall. Only rust underneath is a bit on the pinch welds, works great!
