Great diagnostic video Ray. Thanks for showing us the simple but thorough process to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. It is a pity that the proper diagnosis was not done before others decided to randomly replace parts.
honestly man…a short video is good once in a while!
First video of yours I've watched, I think I'm subscribing!
This was awesome. The to the point diagnostic and testing takes a level of mastery
Ray the mini was a bad design the thermostat stays closed blows head gasket we had one with 15,000 miles on clock needed head gasket load of rubbish I worked for BMW at the time
Sir, did you check to see if the engine computer had a bent or broken off pin????
I think that the best way to fix all the problems with this car is to take it up to about 10.000 feet and drop it on a flat rock. I never did like them.
Engine computers and other electronic control modules should all be mounted somewhere inside of the vehicle cabin, where it’s cooler when the AC is running. I always thought mounting electronic control modules in an engine bay, or under the plastic cowls, is a terrible idea. …and what’s worse, some “American” car manufacturers love to mount them on the chassis; like, underneath a vehicle, where the rain, snow, salt, mud, and other sediments, will most likely nuke the electronics of your vehicle.
What an idea!!!!!
the pins looked rusty on the computer .
its a MINI VIDEO, of course its short,! No apologies needed Ray!
Just now subscribed after a couple of test videos.
15 years ago I had subscribed to 3 YouTube mechanics.
• EricTheCarGuy
• Scotty Kilmer &
• Chisfix.
Eric lost his shop so he won't be putting out videos for awhile.
Scotty went lier bat shit clickbait crazy.
And finally Chris only put out maybe 3 or 4 videos per year.
So, here I am.
All that diag was wasted when you didn't clear the code…
signal wire and power wire
Glasses look great.
Ray you hook up Mini to scanner and hit automatic. ah with 3 pedals I don't think so……….
I watch these for fun…..I think his electrical work is very instructive….
Vehicles in that condition really shouldn't be allowed on road, how can someone care so little to drive a cart like that
DME is bad. Using aftermarket coils are not good to use on a mini. They can screw up a DME.
And your using a CUSTOMER'S car to do it. Wrong on so many levels.
I'm guessing old cars didn't run the Cam off the belt? Newer vehicles literally don't run without the belt, and additionally many engines will be toast from the belt snapping or coming off
I wanted to thank you for not having wall to wall ads and sponsored stuff! As a result you're wonderfully entertaining!
We bought a new mini in 2015. I do the maintenance. At 40k miles the plugs were shot. At 45k coils were failing. That stuck me as weird….of course I replaced the parts as needed and at 60k there were no further issues, excepting a tail lamp circuit failure within a lamp assembly. At 60k the car was totaled…hit by a17 year old kid with his head up his ass. Wife’s ok…little beat up but considering the extensive front end damage to her Mini…she’s lucky and ok. Dave Heitman
What Oakley's are those?
Ray will probably reach 400K subscribers this week. Way to go Ray Ray!
I believe the injector is just shut down as a catalytic converter protection feature. Just clear the code and watch the noid light again. It’ll probably work until the ECM senses the misfire again and shuts it down. Also the voltage on the ground wire is probably a bias voltage from the ECM. The fact that you see it at the connector proves the wiring is ok.
Do you ever work on a vehicle without a steering wheel cover? 😂
Get rid of the apollo and get a much cheaper autel. You could have easily coded a used module in.
Congrats Ray. Loving your shows for 2 years….. thanks and looking forward to many more
I love your videos and watch at least one almost every day. However, I like the shorter ones under 30 minutes. That is because I follow a lot of channels and there is only so much time to watch. Just putting my vote in. Thanks for what you do!
Nice looking glassed it gives you a bigger IQ sir . Mini Hooper.
The neg injector pulse is gonna be quicker than the Fluke can display most times…
I betcha that's like 2 or $3,000.00 dollars to replace that e.c.u. in that mini cooper.
Hate working on my vehicles with transitions ! They take too long to clear if they get dark . If you stay inside they'll work but don't work if your windows are up!
Awesome vid ,apparently they have a few problems with the minis what with the engine mount bolted to the cylinder head and such. Great commentary and videography, thankyou, best wishes to you, from, Auckland, New Zealand.
Best way to fix a mini is to sell it.
What finally happened to the Jag sunroof?
good diag video,
We knew the igniters and wires were good, because they're blue.
Like the diagnostics.
Wow tht brings back some memories I remember tht I had a test in college in wht u jst did except the light bulb trick lol
As a mini owner (and lover of them before I owned one) i just wanted to say that I'm happy you didn’t talk smack about the mini, I love mine and so happy to finally own one, also I love your content 🤘
How can I find your repair shop sir rainman?
amazing diag, flawless. keep it up
3.1 bulletproof 😂 no
TY,,,,,,WOW incredible very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,, AAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.
WOW…I've never seen a pulley come off the crank before but I'm no mechanic either lol. I've heard from quite a few people that the Minis are garbage vehicles and DAMN I didn't now how much until this video. An ECM going out after only 55k miles? I would be beyond furious!
3.83 volts is ECU test voltage to see if injector is there or within tolerence from my experience. 3.84 to 5v is not enough to fire the injector, but enough for ECU to test id it's there. Hope that helps, much respect for your videos, learnt a lot from them sir
You never proved the injector wad good. Did you swap injectors off camera and see if the miss stayed in 1 or moved with the injector?
Ray, aka Dr.Diagnostic, nice job!
Yoooo old Buick gang, my sister has an old century custom with the red Interior and the V6
Glasses look good on you.
That's the failure mechanism of the GM rubber lower pulleys.
Running errands in a customer’s vehicle…I’d be pissed.
That 4v is a Bias voltage used for circuit checks. Strategy on some of those cars will disable injectors if a miss is detected to protect the catalytic converters.
Riding on the range I've got my hat- on, I wanna be a cowboy…
ECM failure at 54K miles is nominally Infant Mortality despite the car being 15 years old.
Yea they are junk
1000 comments in 11 hrs. Wowzers
These auto companies are using more complex software design that we are force to bring our cars to the dealership just so they can milk us for every penny. Congratulation on 400K. I put a LIKE to every videos he puts out. Can wait for 500K. A honest mechanic is hard to find.
The bleaker has no fluid in it that’s why blinky de blinky is going so fast
It’s pretty hard to kill the R53 engine.
Ray I just watched your barely running 1/2 engine on October 26th 2021 on escape v6. Had a 13 escape the same engine no engine problems but had trans problems around $125 rebuilt under extended warranty after that car run great for a long time very interesting keep up the great work. Mile marker Mikey Trenton Michigan. 👍❤️🍕🍕🌭🖖🤞🌈🚀✌️😊🇺🇸
As a tech that hates condemning modules due to how many senior techs i have seen replace them unnecessarily, and even cause damage to new modules because they did not properly test inputs before installation, you really did an excellent job getting straight to the point with how you know its the module. I know they aren’t built like they used to be (leaving out the Kelsey Hayes ABS module) but it still makes me second guess myself every time the thought first comes through my head, “this needs a pcm”.
i am not car savvy but I've lernt a lot from your videos so i would like to thankyou and just say keep up the good work
This is nothing about being a mechanic you look like the actor Jeff goldblum have have a nice day
Short videos are good too! I prefer the short ones, so don't feel bad,
OMG!! I'm literally wearing the exact same frames. Good look my friend!
Hits lock three times… Doors still locked..🤣🤣🤣Uses key…
Grats on 400k Ray.. Even tho Mini's seem to be your bane, I still want one 🙂
They'll always be Dodge!
Shorter 20-25 minute videos are best!
Its DODGE RAM ffs😭😅
Congrats on 400K subs!!
Insert the probe!!!
Ray dude you do realize some cars will shutdown injector pulse if it detects a misfire on that cylinder? I’m glad your sending it to mini because this was definitely out of your wheelhouse, not to sound rude but that was a very sloppy diagnosis
"How do I Enter you?" best quote of the day
great vid ! after buttoning it up I would have tried starting it again just in case a connection was loose (probably wouldn't have started but I would have tried just to see)
you're looking good ray!
You can do it Ray just watch a y tube video
Wait, what if the injector coil was bad? Or did you rule that out before?
"YOU GUYS JUST FIXED my BUWACK.
400K subs later…..
Lose the hdr please. I literally can watch your videos because hdr on the iPhone is annoying and it looks bad.
Hi Ray. I am a veteran Audi sales representative. Many years with Lexus and Toyota also. Really enjoy your video's. Great respect for what my technicians do everyday to keep our clients vehicles safe and reliable. Best regards.
Hi been watching your channel it is nice to see a mechanic that cares about his job I have a good day
Brain fail – I asked my optician why car windshields weren't Transitions treated to assist in bright sunlight driving. He said that it would be great, until you drove into a dark tunnel. Oh … yeah.
500k plague coming soon !!!
Don’t worry if you get 3-6 volts on the ground lead with the multimeter, when the écu is not pulling to ground, the lead is literally floating to whatever is around… and since there is no load at the end of the wire ( relay coil / injector coil ) you are kinda measuring a wire with both end unplugged. If you would had half plugged and peaked at this wire you would had get battery voltage on both… until it would be pulled to ground… no worries there
job well done nice,👍
So cool to see the in-depth learning so much 😊
Ray I have learned many things from you.. I've learned that I don't want to work on foreign cars or for very expensive cars.. LOL😎.. I have also learned to have a good amount of brakeclean on hand to make the "Nice and Shiny!".. LOL.. You are an awesome mechanic Buddy.. and I always look forward to your next video. Thanks for all you share with us shadetree mechs😁..
Have a grrreat day !
4k subs congratulations. I Remember being 300 something. It's been an enjoyable adventure.
don't know if you have one at your shop, probably not, but there are induction heaters made for trying to break free rusted bolts. could probably make quick work of that blue rust truck
Nice glasses thanks for another great video
I was wondering did I miss you proving the injector itself was not at fault.
Drive cars with failing issues is not a good idea. It's unsafe and your causing more damage son
Nice glasses 👓 bro 🙋🏾♂️
