In this video I show the process I use to "rust proof" a vehicle using Fluid Film. It is a pretty fantastic product in my opinion. A must do in the rust belt.

Hey Eric! In the case of applying the Fluid Film, how long does the protection usually last for during the Winter? I told its able to hold up until Spring, and from there its just maintenance upkeep of going under and respraying sections where it may have come off? What type of face mask/filter combo would work best?
Hey Eric O. what about the floor in your shop after spraying fluid film, how do you keep it from getting slippery to walk on after the fact?
Around the Midwest there as a co
called Z Bart that would do this style of rust inhibitor, But they did drill holes wherever they wanted their fluid to go.
I have an 89 Chevy crew cab dually p/up that was done when new, and just now show a couple of rust spot in the rockers.
I can’t imagine living in a state where people don’t have to do this but here in Upstate NY you get 5 years from a vehicle before it rusts through
Pro tip: go ahead and buy the 5 gallon bucket if you can store it and use it for a couple years. The price of the gallon cans seems to go up every year.
I have a 68 Oldsmobile that I use as a daily here in Michigan, I've done this every year for the past 9 years of owning it and the underbody looks like its frozen in time 😁 just an fyi because you didnt show it in the video youll also want to get the inside of the front fenders just behind the front wheels, typically you'll see alot of leaves and other junk build up in there and youll need to blast it out with a compressor.
I couldn’t tell if you were using the black fluid film or the the regular clear underneath. I’ve been using fluid film on my mint 2000 4Runner ever since you recommended it several years ago. I live in rust city too here in the Northeast. Keep up the great work!
i spray under my car with this stuff and it smells terrible for weeks. wont it smell really bad inside the whole car when you spray inside the body/panels?
So, is business slow ?
Fliud film is the dregs from making vitamin d and processing lanolin in sheep skins. The smell is terrible, reminds me of a bad day slaughtering and butchering sheep.
If I was foolish enough to live in the salt zone again, I would have 6 sprinklers in my garage floor and blast the undercarriage every time it came home from the snow.
What do you charge for that
I use Woolwax. Same stuff but thicker. Didn't help my PT cruiser but my jeep liberty is hanging in there.
Like videos good morning
Vehicle could use a new set of tires too!
I hope to never live some place where “Fluid Filming” a car is a thing. Ha!
Where is Mrs O to tell you that “you missed a spot”? You needed a hazmat suit on when you were under the vehicle. At least you won’t rust or squeak for a year! 😎
When I bought my GMC truck brand new in '93 I had the dealer take it to a shop in town that rust-proofed it using a product called "Steel Seal". The truck spent the first 12 years of it's life in Iowa where they salt the roads and streets in winter. Then I moved to Arkansas in 2005 where they do not salt the roads. Now, almost 30 years later, there are some areas along the rocker panels and lower edges of the body that are showing some rust thru, but overall the truck still looks good. However the brakes lines rusted thru the first year down here from the salt from when the truck was in Iowa and I had to have the brake lines replaced. The factory should apply a seal of some kind to every vehicle right on the paint line for vehicles destined for a rust belt state.
What spray gun were you using for the rockers and under hood with the attachments? I have the woolwax pro gun but I like the 90* attachment you had for the engine compartment.
Man, gotta love our rusty areas
Just ordered some professional spray equipment from Lemmer in Alberta, Canada. It's fairly expensive but I figured it will pay for itself by spraying 20 vehicles. It's got a pump which attaches right on top of the pail of material and long hoses which connect to the gun which has interchangeable wands. Making sure you can get it in all the little crevices is definitely the most important part. Sometimes, people think they can do it with the aerosol cans, however it's just not that effective at getting inside the panels.
Back in the day, 70s and 80s cars with the Rusty Jones sticker on them (in the Milwaukee area) were the most rusty vehicles around.
I'm sure fluid film is far advanced then whatever they used.
FF good stuff but its got a smell all of its own.😆
Why wouldn’t you clean the car a little, before getting it worked on .
Question for you Eric would it be better to use a paintable rust preventative like chassis saver on your cross members and frame rails and hardpoints. I do like the spray on fluid film idea but on your heart stuff sort of like the chassis saver idea
what a mess. That fluid film is going to be on everything in the shop. This is a job you do outside
Free-tip Friday for ya; wrap a piece of coloured tape around the wand about 8 inches from the end. That way as you're pulling the wand out of whatever crevice you're in, you know you're getting close to the end when you see the tape.
Are your lungs rust proof after this as well?
Two rules that apply everywhere.
1. If it is suppose to move but does not, WD-40 it.
2. If it is not suppose to move but does, duck tape it.
And a third rule for the rust belt.
3. If it has a hole, douche it with fluid film.
A full vid on Fluid Film and no sheep sound effects? How could you?
Have to be innovative and drum up new business . Better than breaking your knuckles
You're not too far from me. How much to do my 96 camry? I got it from my grandmother when she passed and absolutely don't want it to rot away. It's a southern car with zero rust.
If you DIY Fluid Film your vehicle and end up as greasy as good fried chicken, consider it a good day 😀
Typical Eric O under cutting the competition of Omni Corp Intl; taking Ferraris out of the mouths of hard working anti repair board members. Absolute scumbag as usual.
I am soooo happy I live where cars do not rust 🙏
Don't know about now but back in the 80des some setbelts was in door post and had to b careful of the I found out the hard way
Excellent transition 👍
Good thing she leaks oil because that has preserved some of it 🤣🤣🤣
Cars should be fluid filmed from the factory!
Eric, Where did you get a skinny wand + that 90 deg. metal nozzle? My spray gun only came withy thicker wands that will not fit in door drain holes. I know only spray cans come with skinny hose attachments.
So glad I live in Canada and can get Krown done at a shop so easily. $150 CDN (-30% USD conversion) for my van each year. I've been using since 1986 and have had 0 rust on my vehicles and we have lots of salt and harsh winters
Damn you cheap bud on that service for your attention to detail very nice work and I know the biz . happy customer keeps them on the road for a wee bit or a way bit longer when a winner both parties.
The truck needs new tires and a alinement. How about mixing a small bottle of Peppermint with the fluid film to keep the mice away.
Living in West Virginia it was not uncommon to undercoat your new vehicle to keep it from rusting out. Salt on winter roads is tough on all vehicles. The product was similar to truck bed liners. If I remember correctly it was Ziebart not sure if they are still around.
Thanks, Eric. I live in WI. I have a 2016 Ford f150, aluminum body. Do you recommend fluid filming anything besides the frame? Thanks again.
Question regarding salt and winter. Ontario Canada here
I’ve seen different trains of thought.
Is it better to frequently wash your car in the winter to get the salt off or not?
I’ve also heard that introducing water to the salt can speed up rusting?
I always fluid film or corrosion free spray the cars before winter as well
My son's just bought a 2001 Mazda b3000 it's an old Florida truck we had changed the motor cuz the guy blew it up when he got out here and he is looking to keep it looking good I'm going to do the same to that great idea thanks Eric
How big of a mess does that stuff make in the shop and how do you clean it up?
I use to do this back in Minnesota, we made the costumer sign paper work that said they know it voids the factory warranty about rust..
Wow! I've never seen nor heard of this process! I'll have to ask my Michigan cousins about it. Pretty wild!
Been doing it myself to the family cars (7) for years. Ramps, compressor, spray gun and I swear by it. I buy the 20 litre barrel that lasts for 2 years. My driveway will never rust either!
Why not cavity wax?
The shop floor and walls must be slipperier than snot now. I was hoping for sounds of sheep in the background.
You can tape a lighter gauge piece of solid wire to the tube so it doesn't curl around so much.
6 cans will do the underside of an F150 using just the spray can tip. It will stain your clothing.
And the can spray tips wind up leaking quite a bit. About $10 each per can. It is also available in deep sheep black now too.
How do you remove this stuff once it has absorbed so much dust it then is a thick covering of product and dust? I can’t find anyone to clean the undercarriage of my car
I've applied many cans of Fluid Film to my 2012 Tacoma (120K miles) No rust yet. Usually apply in September/October. Easy job. Use ramps. Doors, wheelwells and fenders inside. Good stuff.
Love ya buddy keep it up !!!
Listen, this salt rust here in upstate NY is no joke. It destroys cars and trucks. I bought a new 97 F-150 but I was living in Portland, Oregon suburb at the time. We moved back to western New York in 2003 and the truck had little rust under it. I mean just here and there on axles and things. One winter later the entire underside of my truck was completely covered in rust. Every year I get under there and spray paint what I can. It has worked since I still use this truck as a daily driver. I found black enamel spray can is the best if you go this route.
What effect does that fluid have on the door speakers?
That's ingenious. If you did that when the car was brand new, and every couple of years thereafter, you'd probably add 5 to 7 years to the life of your car.
Or you could just live in the south, like I do, and not have to deal with it. 😉
Im curious. How come you dont fluid film the wiper motor under the cowl? Its a moisture magnet
Have you tried the new fluid film black? I just undercoated both of my trucks this weekend and was impressed by the results of the way the frame itself turned out.
Did you just bend one of the aluminum wands or did you purchase the right angle wand you were using? If you bought it, do recall where?
Ya know ya the man when a 53’ Snap-On truck rolls up lol
Great advise Mr O
FYI you will have blurry vision for a day or so after
Wouldn't the salt get stuck to the film and continue rusting?
How is the shop after your done spraying? Do you have to scrub the floors, wipe off the tool boxes or anything like that? Love fluid film and thankful for all your videos Eric!
I'm gonna guess by the clouds that that isn't an HVLP system
$200 is a steal for that service!!!
Nice Eric O’s a porn star today 😁
My Honda is 14 years old, wish I'd heard of FF sooner. The rust isn't as nearly bad anywhere as what SMAR vehicle show at 1/3rd that age, but it's annoying. I've had vehicles treated with both, Fluid Film beats Ziebart/wax for any car, new or with some miles on it, except for the initial price, and it's far less messy once applied.
Fluid Film Black is better at hiding encapsulated rust, but is otherwise identical to the regular. It just adds carbon black. The new PB
Blaster Surface Shield seems to hold up better than FF on surface applications where I've used it, and "dries" a little less oily. At $180/gal vs $45 for FF, it would cost 1.5X of FF to apply it once. Only if it actually works twice as long, would it become cheaper over 3 years because of labor cost saving. Time will tell.
I checked and didn't see anyone mention this,,, how often should this be reapplied?
I see your Snap-On truck travels with its own cash truck as well. Strange that they just went with the red cab and didn't do any branding on it, but I guess they don't want to make it too obvious as to what it is.
Do you need to reapply it every few years????
You need to open a Krown shop. Excellent product and cheaper than Fluid Film.
Thank goodness for southern Arizona. No rust here….not much water though either. haha. Great video.
Cheers.
the million dollar question , after fluid filming your under carriage should you power wash it after a snow storm , or use auto car washes that wash the underside of your vehicle ?
Why bother on a car that is 21 years old?
The owner needs new tires before winter.
You should spray your baseball cap! Make it last an additional 10 years!! 😁
If anyone lives near Buffalo NY there's a place called Carwell that does this for $112 per visit at the time of writing this. They don't use Fluid Film but their own formulation which is more or less the same thing. Been doing it for the last 3 years and it definitely works. I do buy my own cans of Fluid Film and touch up known problem areas on my model between visits though.
3M cavity wax.
Yo Eric where did ya get hoses and gun to spray with thx dave
When you had it up on the lift did you take the wheels off and the spray behind them?
It sucks to see something you pay good money for rot so quickly. I have a six pack of cans to do some of this before I go drive the beach in the OBX.
I have my 2018 Yukon XL done yearly by Krown Rustproofing for $149.00. It's a Canadian company in the USA and it's great.
How often does this need to be done? I am assuming it is safe on all components and electronics?
Look into NHOU product. It goes on black.
Always do it every year whether I take it to a shop or do it myself, up here in Quebec it saves our cars
Without PROOF
BS
Why Not doing a penetrating Öl and wax application on the new car. Herr in Europe ist is usual in you live in an area where salt is Süd in the streets.
Eric thanks for the video. This should come in handy.👍
Fire suit on so………………………..
Why bother, Nissans fall apart from the inside out.
Of the many reasons to admire you, Eri(k), is you don't know what tedium is You just do what needs to be done and you're so thorough.. well done sir
I always use bar and chain oil and marine grease. Some places it's better to paint with hammerite . The best advice is 'DO SOMETHING' don't just leave it. Cars are good for 20-30 years you just have to take care of them.
Glad to see you use an appropriate filter to protect your lungs in the second part of the process.
wouldnt last very long in norway, we use tectyl underneath the cars
Hey Eric, what gun do you use? I’ve sprayed many vehicles (upwards of a 100) the guns they sell have nylon lines and break all the time.
After spraying a vehicle inside your garage, are you finding it settling on the floor, walls, lift, etc? Seems a lot of fog flowing around.
