This reminds me of "Risky Business" when the service writer asked, "Who's the u-boat commander?" -Bob, The one-legged crammer
That matco ratchet you used is my favorite one I own.
I like my manual seats.
Look at the rust on the bottom of that seat. Wreckers … new seat unit … buying OEM is going to cost a fortune … Good luck with the insurer … doubt they will pay.
This sort of thing can be repaired, but unless the parts are unavailable or artificially expensive it is seldom worth it. Distilled water, WD40, possibly Deoxit. And a scrub brush / wire wheel / sandpaper.
The owner better get all that fixed and the dash lights all off and trade that thing in… This car will be nothing but problems from here on out…
insurance companies total out water damaged vehicles very easily. their threshold was once it reached halfway up the door, it was deemed a total loss.
So many motors and wires under the seat more connections than my old desktop computer. Water plus electronics = So many problems. Thats why i like older cars less wires less electronic things to go so wrong. Great Video and good to see you back in the Shop fixing and trouble shooting another video.
I worked as a technician in communications and we had words for engineers that designed things that were hard to work on because of access.
AMAZING how complicated car Mfg.'s have made the simplest of functions in cars today.
This will be the first of many problems with this car, it's a chrysler product so the water wasn't needed.
More likely than not, it will be totalled out. Especially when mold WILL be found once the carpeting is removed.
Is this the first scat pack thatโs been featured on the channel? I feel like it is
must be a driver leak
Simple. When you see numerous fault codes at once , it's a sign the car has been under water somehow. It's playing the odds. I'm surprised the car didn't smell like rot and fungus. That grows quick in damp and dark areas like a car seat or carpet.
OMG, the floor pan drops that far? I won't say it.
Powered by SRT? Umm why not Powered by Mopar. More dumbness. Sorry I really can't stand Fiat Chrysler. I like Ford and GM.
Lol, the companies can add electric tilt/ telescopic steering, but not an electric passenger seat. Dumb in my opinion.
Flooded for sure no brainer
Really? Electric tilt steering/telescopic wheel? Dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
I think you'll be seeing a lot of repairs due to the storm coming up.
none of these dumb breakable features are worth the bother of fixing them when they INEVITABLY screw up IMHO!
Scat is a common term for shit. So itโs a doge challenger shit pack. Dodge really thinks highly of their vehicles.
CPC TYPE 3! Some good stuff for electrical! Also use solid film
do appreciate your conscientiousness in keeping your head out of the way, but don't let it keep you from being the best you can be.
i love how the wiring harness on the seat of this car is more complex than my whole motorbike (coming on 30 years old now), something to be said for simplicity i guess lol.
Ray is not the type of guy to just say "we need to replace everything here" so when he says "we need to replace everything here" then you know he is being completely serious.
Might be cheaper to replace the whole seat
Not to. Critique, but it is good to know if it is fresh or saltwater ingress damage as a part of an assessment per long term wetness salvageability. Don't know how much it matters at this point.
I do not recommend taste as a method! Nasty water in your mouth is not goot!!
everything is WAY WAY WAY WAY better without that gimmicky electric steering adjustment and electric seat adjutment.
Mechanical design for the win. No need for electricity to work and still function EXACTLY the same way as the electric one.
Same goes for electronic parking brake, c'mon when your battery is low, you cant even conveniently release the parking brake if you want to tow your car, there is a way but its pain in the ass, as opposed to just release it normally in mechanical parking brake. car makers should stop electrifies anything if it doesnt add any functional value.
Water and electronics just do not mix well at all. This is likely to be painfully expensive, hope his insurance is good!
After the 2011 floods in Brisbane, Australia I replaced a large quantity of data sockets in affected buildings. All the pins had corroded out of them. In one of the industrial areas, the flood water had stripped the varnish off a timber door. The floods earlier this year were a lot cleaner but there was still a lot of corroded sockets that had to be replaced.
At least they named it right
Wife's '13 Cruze had a leak that took me 3 years to find. Thought it was the seam on the roof since it only leaked in heavy rain. Turned out to be the cabin air vent. Where the stupid filter goes. I Redneck Engineered a piece of aluminum as a hood. No more leak. Anybody need some seam sealer? Brand new. Never used.๐
Good thing for your video.
Scat Pack – doesnโt Scat mean ๐ฉ?
electric seats and electric steering column adjustment?! That seems .. excessive. All that weight and electronics, all that plastic and materials. Is it really easier than lifting a spring-loaded lever?
Ray, I Appreciate your smarts on chasing out wiring problems , I could never do that I don't have the patience for it๐ค I enjoyed your hurricane videos also๐ค
Ray, I own a 2019 Scat Pack just like this. I had other Challengers too. Sometimes the best solution to these problems is to unplug the battery for 10 minutes or so and it will fix itself. Basically, reset the computer. Had an issue with the Radio/Nav system and unplugging the battery worked. Not saying it would work with water fried components, but maybe in other instances.
My high school pal was much older than me('jam draft days, his dad said , " don't graduate son, they'll send you over to git shot" , so he failed every grade he could).
He had a Noah's Ark Chrysler Broughom & he always ran the heater and the a.c. fulltime.
He said , makes it last longer, wicks moisture out of the underlayment((1st time I ever heard that word, he was so smart, having been in school twice as long as anyone else).
Nice mike lm happy for you and the wife and doggy's keep up the good work bro
Love your stuff Ray! I watch on the TV ! Query, you are great at what what you do. So why are there so many Trolls? I suspect there are jealous! I'm glad you survived the storm! I feel the pain for those who lost everything! (As much as one can). Keep up the good work! I wish you were here to work on my 2002 Ranger. It was built in Minneapolis on a Wednesday. It has been a very good truck. Its getting old now so there are a few things that need attention. Anyway, I'm glad you and your family are safe!
So do you think the fuse box/wiring harness in the back got wet too?
This is exactly why we need to go back to mechanical type mechanisms (such as manual seat sliders, manual tilt and hand crank windows and do away with all the useless โbells and whistlesโ. These systems are nothing more than an engineerโs wet dream .
Is manually adjusting the seat and steering wheel tilt difficult? Ridiculous technology, time to pay stupid tax!๐คช
Was that an audio seat shaker I saw at the bottom front of the seat?
That was completely different Ray. Over the next few weeks, it may become more common place. That looks like a real can of worms you've uncovered. It will be quite interesting to see what the adjuster decides.
Not just any water but that's salt water flooding. That car will have years of electrical issues.
I know y'all hate old airhead Beetles… but I never have those kinds of problems with it.
Available soon at a CarMax dealer near you!!
You need flex probes/back probes my guy, I was cringing when you were poking the pins.. also get the FREAKIN wiring diagrams
Heyyo! Purchased a used 2004 Ram 2500 few months ago. I'm having many electrical problems. The cab lights don't work as expected. The wipers don't function as expected. Previously, the "lamp out" alarm would go off if I had both my headlights on and the left turn signal. More recently the left headlight actually burned out and now the "lamp out" alarm is always active, even with the headlights off.
During a recent trip to the parts store, another Dodge owner suggested that the fuse box might need a full replacement. Any clue if that's a valid path forward?
Check into the cost of a complete seat. It may be less expensive that all the parts you want to replace. If you keep the seat, how will you remove the water from the foam? Great day wishes to all.
For some reason, I think you are gonna see alot of water damaged vehicles coming in.
This is why you buy a car with as few power accessories as possible. Power seats? No. Power trunk lid? No. Power tilt/telescope steering? No, no, no. Keep it simple.
Scat is another word for poop.
Poop Pack!
Pack of poop with all them codes ๐
This is exactly why I hate all these computers & unneded electrics in the car that can only go bad … a mechanical seat adjustment is sufficiant
Great visuals, and audio, but you leave the olfactory experience totally up to the audienceโs imagination. Give us some hints. Wet socks? Mix of locker room and Bruit?
Typical dodge already has the check engine light on
Although there was no brake fluid in this video I enjoyed it. We are glad to see you back and I'm glad to be here as well. Have a great day. By the way here in DFW area not too many major hurricanes come by in case you ever plan on moving ๐.
Would have been cool to see doolin drills at the same time moving that seat forward lol…love the channel,,,nice to see things getting back to normal…๐ค
I didn't read the title of the video, and as soon as you said the seats weren't working, I'm like, flood damage.
Looks like somebody forgot to roll the drivers side window up and it got rained in.
I would hope they just totaled this car due to the water damage. I wouldnโt want my car repaired I would want it to be totaled hopefully the owner of this car has gap insurance.
Thanks for another great video, Glad you folks came through ok. With your floor, if it is just the entrance that is damage can you replace it with ceramic tile? This would prevent the damage from happening again and save replacing the whole floor.
Did they change the user interface on your scanner?
Nevermind. You answered the question right after I typed it.
Man, I swear you can read minds. Whenever I have a random question about something you're doing/using you answer it shortly after.
This has occurred several times. You must be able to hear my thoughts ๐คฏ Get outta my head!!!! Lol.
But for real, thanks for the kick ass videos. You've taught me a ton of stuff.
Cheers!
Scat: shit
Pack: bag
"they have tuned themselves into a check engine light" LMAO. I liked the Warranty Void DTC.
Ray, you ARE the MAN
Personally, I lack the patience for the BS of modern automotive systems
After I retire in December 23, I plan to use my FAA A&P Certificate to work on either Cargo or Experimental Aircraft. It depends on the State where my wife will retire.
From experience, I will say that Certified General Aviation and Experimental Amateur Built Aircraft systems are far simpler to work on than any modern CanBus OBD2 Automotive system. AND an A&P Technician generally earns more than an Automotive Journeyman Line Mechanic does on an annual basis.
I mean not to degrade your or any Automotive Journeyman Technician, yet mean to call attention to the under-appreciated Automotive Journey Technicians
Peace out Brother
Water isn't the only stuff in flood water.
Yeah, I'm sure that the insurance company won't have very much work to do, and will have plenty of time to micro-manage this little project. </s>
I have to admire your patients when working on something like this.
Oh for simple seats with no electronics….
i kinda wanna see someone make a differential style tool for doing that back and forth part. would be hard to be universal probably though
At least they named it correctly.
i had several connectors on my Grandson's car where water got in and he had corrosion. I sprayed some WD-40 on all the connectors and where I felt water penetrated? I waited about 4 hours and blew air through all the connecting points blowing out 98% of the WD-40. I lightly used a brass soft brush and went across all the terminals. Blowing them out thoroughly! I put them back together with a little die-electric grease. They all worked fine after and still are today! Sometimes You can get lucky?
They really should go back to the simple lever method to slide seats forwards and backwards
Storm surge. Most insurance companies just total any vehicle that has been in storm surge. It is easier that way. You fix one problem and a few days later another one will rear its ugly head. Then another. And so on.
got dam, Ray.
good work Brother.๐
What a POS!
These restrooms and coffee are for customers. We break at noon for lunch, this is where the oil filters are located. Ray"s area is here. He likes to talk to himself while he works.
Being in a high humidity area, Iโm curious why donโt you use contact cleaner on the connectors.
Iโm sorry if I seen the job on the brakes wrong. But you never hit a bearing with a hammer second I think you should use more grease inside slider pins also regular grease its not going to last on the slider pins you need to use silicone grease as it doesnโt break down as fast as regular grease. This will prevent premature failure on the slider pins(SEIZING ). Please let your audience no this as this is the proper grease & way of doing the job. also the shims so as to prevent static buildup causing the brakes to make loud squealing noises during braking thereโs also an anti-static spray you can put on the pads to prevent static build up. Love your show but please let your back yard mechanicโs no the proper way of doing this job as noise brakes are very annoying.
Thx
Rick M (Canada) Red Seal Millwright 30yrs.
What a rats nest !!
This is why I like my 2004 Jeep TJ… much less electronics on it.
Iโll comment the same thing for the umteenth time, doing diagnostic work you really really need to stop using a meter and instead use test lights. Just because a circuit shows 12 volts on your meter does NOT mean the circuit is capable of carrying a load and you can easily send yourself on a wild goose chase. A corroded wire can easily show 12 volts and yet be incapable of lighting a test light
This is why I like plain Jane cars. The least power options the better. I say that as I sit in a van with power everything. It was a great deal at the dealership and I needed a car. I told my wife if the rear power doors stop working they become manual doors. Wish it would work for windows though. Hopefully this will last me and I donโt have problems with any of the electronics. Fingers crossed
Ray mosquitos don't like the smell of vitamin B in Aussie we take em where the mozzies are bad the vitamin B smell comes out of you skin . try it out mate
Flood car……nothing will ever work properly again. Rust everywhere
I love your videos man they Are some of the most interesting videos ever I watch all of them
What a terrible name scat pack
Fiddly job there that's for sure but great work, diagnoses and video as always Ray ๐๐
Ray.. is your Milwaukee right angle impact 3/8" or 1/2" anvil??? Thanks
A while back, used car retailers would loudly advertise "Rust Free Southern Cars". Now, you have to be careful to not buy a southern "water car".
As a person that learned to troubleshoot to a component level, I love that you use a wiring diagram in your troubleshooting.๐คฃ๐๐
Typical Dodge junk.
