Starts out as a Corvair then blends into a Dodge with Camaro quarter panels, but for the life of me I can't figure out that rear end.

That "Corvair" has its engine in the front. It can't be in the rear because it would need cooling vents back there like the original had.

I assume the engine is in the rear of that car also? I don't know I only know that my uncle had a corvair and the engine was in the back.
We had a baby sand rail when I was a kid, late 70s, dad dropped in a corvair vs traditional VW engine — was awesome.

Corvairs were about a decade ahead of their time. I had a '61 auto and a '64 convertible 4-speed. There is a reason they were call the "poor-man's Porsche".

They got tired of building pancake engines for the Corvairs because they were starting to look like pancakes.

I hope they fix the roof. My first car was a 65 convertible. I spent most of high school driving around in a 65 coupe and college in a 66 coupe. My dad was very much into them and we spent the better part of what seems like a long time trying to fix and flip them. He passed away on Monday and so this brings back a lot of memories.

This is a great example of why more car manufacturers should make new cars based on old cars, but not like how they made the Camaro or Challenger (I like the look of the challenger though) because I think they look too modernized.
Loved my '65! 4spd, NA, headers, glasspacks, deep sump oil pan, 4 primary carbs, 14" chevelle wheels with radials. Regularly wound it past 8000. Would flat leave a 289 mustang.
Knew two guys who used the Eico kit to put a 350 SB in the back seat.

I just saw that car at an all Corvair Car Show/Swap Meet in Palm Springs, CA. The owner was headed to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas from there.
The car is a Camaro chassis and drive train, the body is Carbon Fiber there aren’t any vintage Corvair parts in it. But it does look and sound cool.
Hey, all – this is a 2018 Camaro that’s been body modified to look like a 66 Corvair. V8 in front, rear trunk. I don’t know how to paste YT vids into comments, but look up Corvair 2020 by NewRide and the vid comes up. It’s all in French but you can translate the auto-captions into English. Heck of a job.
If you want a REAL Corvair, look for Matt's Offroad Recovery's Morvair. It's an off-road BEAST built with a Corvair body.

My Ole' man drove one of those back in the sixties, was called a Corsa.
My mother had a 1963 Corvair Spyder convertible. She drove from Arizona to Massachusetts in it in 1966. Ralph Nader said it was unsafe at any speed, but that Corvair SAVED HER LIFE. Some jackhole shot at her bright red car on the highway somewhere in New Mexico. She heard a metallic "CLANK" from her door, but after not hearing that noise again, thought nothing of it and continued on. The bullet hole was discovered by her father 2 days later in Massachusetts. The bullet had lodged in the steel window crank bracket, inside the door. If it had not hit that solid steel bracket, it would have traveled through the door into my mom, 3 years before I was born. So I guess that Corvair saved my life too.

I helped a guy work on a '65 Corvair last summer. Wowzer, what a POS, it was a sad attempt by GM to catch the Volkswagen fever that was sweeping the country at the time (rear engine, air cooled.) Never seen a more complicated car, especially the fuel delivery and carb system, coming from that era.

I drive a ‘65 for a while. The Corvaire had a distinctive “aroma” and I could find them in parking lots without looking.
Alright so I can make a trade with the auto manufacturers. If we are eventually to be forced to give up our engines. The least they can do is make all the cars sexy as hell. Production cars need to be art again.
