Customer States: Oil and Antifreeze leak on a Cadillac DTS 4.6 NorthStar v8. These engines in particular are known to be fluid leakers over time and there's only one way to properly seal them up!
Pull the! engine! #oil #leaks #shorts #rainmanraysrepairs
Pull the! engine! #oil #leaks #shorts #rainmanraysrepairs
Sounds like what i need to do with my 2006 subaru outback
At this point, just get a new car
I’ve always called it the “While you’re in there tax.” Always end up refreshing a bunch of stuff that’s mostly fine but I just “know” will start causing problems if I don’t sort it while stuffs already apart.
I love the fact that my mechanic while replacing the water pump on a Ford Flex (and if you know you know) he replaced timing chain, all gaskets etc. Because if you open that Pig up, you might as well at 118,000 miles.
And "dollars to donuts" the transmission is in need of a fresh pump, fresh clutch, fresh apply bands, new torque converter..
Tells me it was a turd leaving the factory.
If your Northstar isn't leaving puddles it's time to refill the fluids.
I finally understand why cars depreciate in half immediately after buying it.
Can you rebuild the transmission and engine while youre in there?
Just drop a brand new crate engine into it too since you're in there .
Ew poopy fail pro gaskets
Junk
Bro the northstar was a pile
Junk the engine
'While you're in there' is my standard mode of operation when maintianing my truck.
Resealing a motor is a waste of money, throw a low mileage motor in, or do a complete rebuild, either way the car will rot out before the engine goes again
I thought it would be a Ford product when I saw all the gaskets leaking.
The notorious North Star leaker 😒
Raymond 💪 not seen you for ages buddy, i’ve been ill 😷. Lots to watch now 👍
Stop upselling me, I just came to put air in my tires… not rebuild the entire engine! 😂
"so whats the total bill Ray?" "YES"
Gm literally produced a pill that is supposed to go into the radiator specifically for the northstar pos engine because the head gaskets and intake man gaskets constantly leak from day one. This pill is basically just stop-leak. My opinion, this is ONE of the worst engines gm ever produced. This engine also has torque to yield bolts all over it that cant be tightened enough.
New starter too
.
Literally me with my Subaru just needs a up pipe. Meanwhile everything is rusted so turbo has to come out and has a bad seal so might as well replace that. Now we need new lines and oh shit the oil drain is rusted out and the pans leaking well looks like we’re pulling the pan. All because a 1 foot section of the exhaust. Like when do we stop 😂
Just based on that coolant piping I can tell you that this is a 2000s model Cadillac with the 3.6L Northstar engine… I hate the engineer who designed this abomination.
While you're in there you might want to change the starter LOL
Talking about open a can of worms
What's this cost? In 2024
Just throw sealant pellets in it. It's supposed to have em. Look it up
Was there anything that wasn't leaking?
So what you're saying is it's leaking just leaking
There is a Northstar Cadillac out there somewhere that is worth putting this much effort into?
F the north-star engine , worst oil leaker..
How’s the pvc doing? Seems like a lot of blown gaskets
Sounds like you had extra fun!
While you have it all out, might as well rebuild it all
Starter too
Mf just charged em $7,300 in parts and Labor just to tell em by the end "honestly you might just need a new car" poor son of a bitches 😭
When your a mechanic you understand
It would make sense not to fix it all. Nice work! Thanks
anyone check pcv function so it don't happen again ?
nice upsell tho.
Make sure you pull those main cap bolts and do that oil manifold plate above the oil pan.
My last "while i was in there" turned into a full rebuild with all the machine shop work as well
Hate those turds. Upper pan leaks and you have to pull motor apart.
I’m surprised anyone would even fix that north star pos, those things leaked from the factory
Ggod luck
It's leaking like a HD DAMN.
This is the way..
This reminds me of the story of my ford van. Everything was leaking and sounding funny, so I bought a fresh reman and spent 3 days swapping it out. Here we are 5000 miles later and I'm not upset. Took care of all the leaks and noises and gained a lot more power to boot😂
Did you say 4.6 Northstar? Recommend to the customer that they have the heads pulled off and a new head bolt kit install be preformed.
Well, somebody had a bad day
Northstar🙄
That’s a total nightmare
Northstar 🤢🤮
Put power steering hoses in it too
Another crappy GM product
Sigh those northstar engines. You get one that runs for 350k mi or one that leaves you on the side of the road every 8k miles
My 1st gen srx awd v8 3rd year version ran great and the only thing i ever had to change in 220k mi besides a starter at 120k mi was…you guessed it….rear main seal
Just GM things. Detroit to the 350. If its not leaking its probably out of oil
Got to be a Chevrolet
Hope you fixed the pcv while you were at it
There is no way to tell all of that with a leaking valve cover. Change the valve cover gaskets, porter the engine, wait two weeks and then give them another free inspection. You dont know how long thats been leaking, you're a rip off.
Pulled trans to replace pump seal. Completely built trans to take over 800hp headers complete front end ujoints shocks etc and a year later it was done… i feel you.
North star? While your there, throw it in the trash
Looks like your working on a Kenworth truck with the original Cummins ISX, i pull engine and transmission to do basic maintenance, just to hard to work on in the truck
That's how I feel every time an old car comes in. My eye starts twitching cause it has an oil leak. Yea, yea we know customer.
Good ole gm
You should’ve fixed the head bolts while you were into it. They’re rly bad abt pulling them out.
While you were in there..
Who cares what you find leaking in there you just fix the complaint the customer had which is to replace the floor mats and learn your place in this life
Fiat owned POS, if it says FCA label run.
Sometimes you just gotta take a leak.
Northstar baby
While you were in there, was the customer robbing the bank to pay for it?
Not that you would overcharge, but thats a lot of work and has to cost a pretty penny.
If this car had something like car shield, would they have covered all these issues or given a customer and shop the run around to avoid spending so much?
This is the way!!!
Oh god it's a Northstar…
Remove the thermostat housing and slide a brand new engine underneath.
That’s so true 😂😂😂
That’s the kind of mentality that led me to restore a 91’ Ford Escort Lx with a GT powertrain/suspension swap, 6 years in the making. Lol
The second this engine fires up, all of the threads will stretch out and everything's going to leak again.
Those engines need to be scrapped
Shiet mine as wel have just thrown a new engine in it 😂😂
I used to work with a former GM mechanic, of 16 years. He did a total Northstar reseal, 20 something (I think 25) hours, and said he would be not do just one seal, he always did them all.
Us GM guys don’t like talking about the Cadillac northstar v8 😂
Youre loterally the first pwrson ive EVWR heard of choosing to or actually following through building a northstar.
Why would you do such a dumb thing?
Should’ve just dipped the entire engine in silicone.
Your a madman (and a mechanical genious) ! I like your attitude brother!
Bad PCV valve blows all the seals like that.
My MIL had a Northstar equipped Cadillac. The first time I gave it a once over I couldn't believe EVERYTHING was leaking. I thought I was just misinterpreting what I was seeing on a 5 year old car. I chalked it up to being a GM product. At the time I didn't know how bad Northstars were.
My brother had issues with his Northstar in a 97 SLS. Spent more time in the shop than it did on the road 😅
Ray you didn't pull the parts cannon out on this it's just a P.O.S.😂
Love your work Ray.
This is called scope creep.
Someone beat to it. Head gaskets and valve seals. I worked on them Engines when they were brand new at a Cadillac dealership. Old I is.
Have they fixed the PCV issue that probably caused all of the gasket issues?
That rabbit hole is going to lead to an entire replacement 😂lmao
So did you find the problem that caused all these gaskets to blow
Changing engine is the best way….🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
That’s sucks…😩😩😩😩😩😩🫣🫣🫣🫣
Thought it was a BMW
Why does anyone buy a GM product?
No! Look at the higest point of rhe leak, like the valve cover, replace, clean and monitor
