Damaged Lower Intake! Plastic Threads! Jeep Wrangler 3.6 Pentastar Pt 2 https://youtu.be/J9IyLh2QPgo
Today we have a Jeep Wrangler Sahara with the 3.6 Pentastar engine. The customer states engine oil is leaking and it is a large leak. Be placed the jeep in service mode and began the inspection. It was found that engine oil was leaking off of the valve covers, after lifting the jeep, we found more oil on the back side of the engine and on the transmission. The intake manifold was removed and then the lower intake manifold was removed. Engine oil was found pooling up in the valley between the cylinder heads. The oil cooler assembly was then removed and inspected for leak sources. The o rings were found to be deformed and leaking engine oil.

Every time I watch a video of work on a Chrysler product, I thank dog I've never owned one.
I have a 2011 dodge durango and I replaced my oil cooling housing in June of 23 and the new one went back out in August of 23 so I did go back with the all metal after market one
You went full-disassemble on Johnny-5!
JEEPS ARE SCRAP YARD FOOD!
You would think, erroneously, that a big rectangular open top engine bay would have plenty of empty space for working around the engine from all sides…I guess they look at it and think…what kind of big plastic box, wiring harness and tubes can I cram in that free space?
welp he's got all the rust protection he'll ever need.
If you can't see it, it don't need to be tite!! 🫣🤯
Another great video Ray, unfortunately your editing skills are lacking on it. Keep up the good work buddy.
Thinking someone tried the old '1/4 turn of the valve cover bolts to stop the leak' trick. Which doesn't work in modern cars, obviously.
What a scrap car to work on! so much unnecessary work to achieve your goal.. I'm glad not to be an owner of this brand..
That engine is absolute trash. So many known issues yet they keep producing that junk.
JD POWERS is a corrupt self-appointed marketing firm that will hand out awards to anyone that pays them. Whatever achievement they vote to award for, stay clear of that product cause you can know its complete garbage. JD Powers has 0 credibility.
"Jeep Ducking" : The act of placing a rubber duck on someone's Jeep—called Jeep "ducking" and/or "Duck Duck Jeep"—began with one person, named Allison Parliament, from a small town in the Canadian province of Ontario. She unknowingly started a movement of kindness, fellowship, and recognition with that first rubber duck she placed on a Jeep.
Allison's reason for perching a little yellow duck on a Jeep Wrangler just like hers that she saw in a parking lot was simply to bring herself a small sense of joy after a frightening verbal and physical encounter with someone earlier in the day. Two years later, that single gesture has morphed into the Jeep ducking craze that has swept throughout the Jeep enthusiast community in the United States as well as in nearly a dozen other countries around the world. What does it mean if you've been ducked?
“I think it's essentially like giving someone a flower, to say I just appreciate what you got going on, and keep it moving,” said Ward. If you have one, it means you've been 'ducked. ' If you get one, the kind gesture means someone likes your Jeep, or just wants to put a smile on your face.
Ray you were talking about hoping your customer didn’t make this repair and making fun of them. I kind of had the same thing happen. I am a mobile heavy equipment, tech, and I drive everywhere. Well in Atlanta traffic, I didn’t road rage, but I was discussed with someone driving near me. They cut me off. I was mad wanted to tell him how bad the driver they were. But I didn’t. Then I realized when I pulled into my first job, it was my customer. After that I am very careful who I externalize my anger towards. 😅
I know a jeep guy that just chucks the ducks across the parking lot he finds on his vehicle.
I'm waiting to see if you check the cam( sprockets ) and lifters and followers
What a crappy inappropriate use of plastics in an engine.
Ray, I know that Jeep is not your favourite, but in Australia mechanical support and knowledge how to do it is sadly lacking. If you buy a Jeep here you either buy 2 so whilst one is broken down and you are trying to figure out the faults, there is a spare vehicle to drive. Jeep dealers are the least knowledgeable mechanics and YouTube is the first advice you look for. Jeep Australia is the second worst company here for warranty claims so going to them for any support isn’t worth it. Please consider doing more on Jeeps to help us out. Thanks
My big mouth forced me to retire.
Just think Ray, If the engineers who designed this unit are thinking about all the cool tools you could buy to work on it
Once upon a time…open hood, an engine block, carburetor, exhaust thingies. Unbolt things, put in new things. Close hood. 289, slant six…..WTF HAPPENED !!! Intake air temp sensor !!!…..Glad all my tools got stolen 20 years ago, I'd just make trouble with them now. God bless the Rainman.
Either I'm having a stroke, my Internet connection is spotty or Ray Fingled the editing.
Why would anyone buy one of these? Terrible ride and a pain in the butt to work on!
Champion plugs suck…
Why does the video lock up and then go to black and hang?
Welcoming back!
JEEP: Just Empty Every Pocket, it's a JEEP thing!
He sometimes does it on purpose to generate more responses!🤣🤣🤣
recording a broken jeeps makes vid sick and broken i hope it doesnt affect mech. too😮
Jeeps are endless money pits
Jeep just empty every pocket
Sorry Ray, but your choice of transitions in this video does not work for me, it's like there is a sudden stop and start. Not up to the same standard f your previous transitions. Later transitions much smoother.
You're definitely the man that car need to live longer !
It's a Jeep thing. Even the video editing is f'ed up.
Isn’t a V6 in a Jeep a sacrilege? Shouldn’t it have an I6?
@RainmanRaysRepairs I noticed that you didn't mention one of the most common issues of the Pentastar engines, the rockers arm failure which causes a ticking noise and after a while it destroys the camshaft lobes. I hope this is one of those items that you check but don't bother to film.
So a jeep is the Harley of the car world i guess
I was expecting that bolt to be missing, versus being loose. 😉
Thanks for the time saving edits! I like!
Love that "Gravity!"
Why do people buy, jeeps, They are piles of shit
Don’t worry Ray it was still an awesome video despite the clicking. Love the jeep wow what a jigsaw puzzle blimey.
Now I know, never buy a jeep
you make me leaving a comment.. good job ray… hammered Jeep Video version
Your editing with the clicking and weird video scene transformation SUCKS ! Stop it !!!
looks like the video cutting has been done different… the "cuts" have a slight pause and also pause in sound.., very annoying. 🙁
JEEP 🚙 One question WHY???. Do people like your design and engineering folks ever think just a little down the road when your defective products need to be accessed. So all that money spent on one bolt.
The video was not that bad People are such babys Stuff happens we just keep moving on, dont let them get to you . If its that easy to do vidoes maybe the haters can make there own videos . Its all good sir. Keep up the great content.
I got a headache thinking about how that is going to be to put back together. I love your channel Ray. You are awesome on what ya do.
GM is the king of oil/coolant leaks and is the king of plastic garbage and you rag on Chrysler? Yeah I don't think so… All the Domestics are guilty of GARBAGE!
Ray botched the editing 😂
They call it getting ducked gayer then just being gay 😝
Was that a 10mm deep well you dropped while taking the battery tray bolts out? 10mm socket gravity. For shame.
I like it when your wife is in the video. She is your best half. She helps you run a fantastic business. Both you and your wife work very well together. You are very blessed to have her Ray.
No, ray. Since it's Chrysler, with it's"innovative engineering" it's not just the fuse box, it's the car's entire electrical system.
I'm not to upset about the editing. Just seams like some of the transitions didn't quite take. Oh well. This isn't supposed to be the latest star wars movie. All the educational bits are intact so I'm not gonna call this bad.
Ray just showed the struggle is real with editing 😂
I love your videos but the editing on this one made me tweak out 😆
I'm NOT a fan of the quick fade.
The only people with ducks in Florida are people that have tire pressure sensors in their jeep are people that need tire pressure sensors in their jeep and don’t have an in-line six AMC motor basically any jeep older than a TJ gets a duck the duck is not a good thing
Nice video!
plastic engine parts make me have anxiety
Ray. Don't worry over the feelings of whomever did the prior work. "Either you Know, or you Don't Know." The poorer the Design, the more difficult the job becomes. You have the touch, meaning that you know to handle metals, plastics, gaskets of different types, etc. One mistake can result in a failure. Because of bad design. These vehicles are way more difficult to fix, than they first present. The owner should be glad you are Saving the vehicle, which looks nice on the outside. Somebody bit off more than their level of expertise. They tried, but they just were not ready for prime time. We all start somewhere. You are at the Very top…..the rest….well, they gotta learn to watch all the videos!
When I fix something and everything goes easy with no extra parts, frankly, it scares me.
And to think I work for a dealership, that sells the OEM coolers by the BUTT TON!
I recently did this exact job on my friend’s 2015 Wrangler. Both valve covers were leaking but the there was something bigger leaking as evident from below, just like this Sahara. I tore down the intake manifolds and found lots of oil in the valley too. They had upgraded to the aluminum oil filter housing a year prior. I originally was diagnosing and repairing a 5V ref intermittent fault that I was able to trace to the oil pressure sender. The oil cooler was leaking oil between the cooler and the housing, not from the housing unit itself. Those Dorman figure 8 replacement seals are crap. OEM seals for the housing and cooler are red. I noticed how stiff the Dorman figure 8 seals were compared to OEM. As soon as you turned the cooler sideways, oil poured out of it. Also, the Sahara’s driver side valve cover was replaced with, what appears to be a Fel-pro gasket kit, as their spark plug gaskets are brown. The OEM valve cover gaskets and cam sensor seals are black, as seen on the passenger side. The Fel-pro cam sensor gasket is blue as seen on the driver side. Therefore, only the driver side valve cover was previously attempted to be fixed. Be sure to replace that PCV valve as that’s part of the problem under that valve cover. Great work!!
“Fine Chrysler automotive product…..”🙄😅😂🤣😂😅😆😅😁……designed by idiots.
Love your videos man, but the new editing style / constant cuts were tough to watch!
I watched this whole thing, and immediately decided the 4.0 ho is still better in every way.. 😂
This should serve as a public service announcement.
The plastic Pentastar
What a nightmare! These stupid engineering designs and lay out choices pretty much guarantee the customer gets screwed multiple times over. First, they get fleeced by the initial sales cost, (Salesman: "But it's only $385.00 a month for 152 months!") then they get it again through component failure, then when they find out the insane cost of repairs, they either don't get them done and it eventually leads to full on break downs or accelerated issues with even more chain reaction costly problems, or they go the cheap route and have ham fisted "mechanics" break/destroy/incorrectly perform shoddy work trying to fight through a ridiculous bramble patch of millions of delicate fasteners, wires, hoses, impossible to get to spots, then using even worse knock off cheap replacement parts, or huge costs using expensive real mechanics and obscenely expensive parts.
Hi wife unit😉😉😉
The battery tray is so fun to pull out
Not long ago Wranglers were one of the cheapest cars you could buy, now they are such a ripoff.
The editing on this one was making me scream.
As a diy'er, I love you're confidence. I'm always concerned I'll forget how to reassemble.
The editing wasn't that bad, I really wonder if it was shade tree or warranty work. Hope it wasn't the owner, that would be embarrassing. :p
With the cost of getting or even finding a qualified mechanic to fix things, you're going to see a lot more botched DIY jobs. And what brainiac thought up that useless oil cooler assembly? Not only is it made of plastic, it's in the wrong spot-the hottest part of the engine!
Who cares about the editing ! your watching a mechanic work on a pos fiat not a Hollywood motion picture GEEZ!!
Watching this video makes me regret selling my '72 Duster, even though that happened 40 years ago.
I am not a professional mechanic but I have watched you do this enough times to see the shoddy work that has been done to this vehicle. I think it is a great thing you film this stuff so if there is any question it can be answered in video format. Screw the haters as they are everywhere and on every channel. Great job and always look forward to you content,,, and the Mandatory Wife Unit Appearance. 😁
Did not see anything wrong with the editing, not enough to grip about for sure!
When you have a Pentastar Engine, you need lots of room to access it! Trust me on this.
Ridiculous amount of tear-down just to get valve covers off that machine.
Lord, what a piece of shit. Well done Crysomore
I've had 3 Wrangler Unlimited's (2008 Sahara, 2011 Sport, 2014 Rubicon X series) – the 2008 was decent, the 2011 was a powerless piece of crap, the 2014 was worthless after 60k miles. I now own a 2021 Toyota Tundra; never going back.
Someone told me years ago that the first thing to wear out on a Jeep is the hood hinges.
……foreshadowing with the cooler…
Jeep in it's natural habitat, on a hoist
Bro those transitions are not it
This is the first video i could not finish. the constant fade in and out got real old real fast i made it to 13.47 min in and quit. Will not finish. The fading in and out sucks. Sorry Ray i know it doesn't matter much but its the first ever thumvs down ive givin you.
Not a fan of the stop start transitions. Not hating…just informing.
I feel your pain Raymond. These engineers AT STILLANTIS sit at desk running CAD. They don’t see the REAL WORLD
Welcome to ending on windows 95! 😛
seams like memory card set to 3 minute parts?
I thought my internet was going in and out trying to watch this lmao. Ray fuckin with us. Was surprised to see green coolant coming out.
Ray does his editing must have been hammered 🎉😂
