Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he has a look at this 2002 Cadillac DeVille that came in with no back up lights. Now now it's not just a couple of bulbs but it ends up being a pretty common failure but all the same let's put in practice a good diagnostic approach and get this baby fixed!!

process of elimination is what I call that
Good diag Eric O easy as finding the broken wire at the moving Joint @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
I agree. What is that broken wire caused a busted fuse or burnt a relay. It's easy to work your way back from a working fuse or relay. Screw those jackasses
I went through 2 other butane soldering irons, buying cheap ones and never being happy. Finally I gave up and bought the really nice PortaSol one, and it's a pleasure to use and should last me forever.
Hi, Eric I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 and I would like to know if it could be possible to bypass a wire on the reverse lights?
Any video with some Mrs. O time is 73.6% better. Loved the diagnosis and thought process as usual, never gets tired. I wonder if I would have found that issue without an Autel? I have a power probe and relay checker, I think I might look at the flex point (physics) but it would have taken me all day to do that.
Do you test all the exterior lights in this case?
I have a buick that tilts the Sideview mirrors when you put it into reverse.
Lmao i knew i heard him say MEOW! ๐ ๐คฃ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐คฃ
Okay my unlock on the key fob does light up the reverse & brake light to work. The green wire appears the be intact & not split… relays seem to be working…. is there anything im doing wrong or someone can help.
this is why i deal with ford, very very rarely have wiring issues
the amount of money for a cadi you think they be smarter
Eric…. You did the problem solving like u always do… If people are OTL (Out To Lunch) Have to keep it family friendly… You did the steps that you are comfortable with and found the issue. Just because it was a easy fix that does not mean it would be a easy road to get there!… Always in life there are solutions to every problem but how you approach those solutions are the key…
What is the soldering jig brand and model number?
When welding must be done there is only one brand: Weller.
Yep I've done a fair share of chasing wire breaks and shorts at the aft end of cars and trucks and Van's as well and your right Erick plan your work and work your plan had a Bonneville with no reverse lights and no trunk release as well as no fuel door release turned out it was a little module on the back of the back seat that got crushed when someone stuffed a bunch of 4x4s in the trunk and a bag of sacrete
Do you share your finds with other shops online. Not YouTube
What a poor design for a cady
I like your videos you talk and do… thanks
A cool little piece of kit to have for those tite spaces
That break is pretty common on a lot of vehicles, but as you said, you still have to have a plan to diagnose the complaint. If the symptoms lead you there, great. But as you know, it may take you in a totally different direction. Be thorough and you can save yourself a lot of time and comebacks

Hi
I once owned a 1990 grand prix and the head lights went out on low beam but high beams worked. So my good friend and I did a search for wire diagram for 90 and found out that was wrong. So we went to 91 ,92 gp and no good diagram but 1993 was the right one. So in order to make the low beams work we had to bypass the module power altogether directly from switch to fuse all good. For the time i owned it. Thanks for the videos ๐น
Thanks again for a very, very instructive video Eric. It's great watching you work.
I was always taught to start at the source of power to the end of the circuit
I'm ranking this as the "1" resource on wiring.. its complete and slaps you in the face for skipping a step. Thank YOU Eric O!
The red wire is so that if one of the other power wires break both bulbs will still light up.
I have a 2008 Mercury grand Marquis no reverse lights what is the problem with it I check the tail light bulbs they good
My second time watching A+
I figured it was a bad ground, because it's a GM
My '65 Corvair had no brake light. It was in the steering wheel where the turn signal parts are. Little brass contacts needed cleaning and a little more bends with tweezers.
Your the man good job ๐๐ปโ๐ป๐
Eric, I think your diagnostic approaches are spot on, no complaints here. I miss my little portasol, awesome tool, but it strangely went missing a few years ago :/
Great video and very informative..! I have a 2007 Ext Cadillac..any chance that you can tell me why my backup/reverse lights stay on? I replaced the brake switch on the brake pedal…someone said the relay to the backup/reverse lights burned out in the ON position but I cant find the relay… someone else said that the relay to the backup/reverse lights is in that little BCM black box just left of the steering wheel? So I pulled the fuse cause it will run my battery down but doing that just drives me crazy..!
OK – I have spent 20 minutes Re-watching the video trying to spot the model number of that little butane Weller soldering iron / torch and I cannot see it. Eric skips over it too fast and the video description doesnโt list that tool.
Does anybody know what the model number is?
in the Cadillac's with auto dimming mirrors if you put it in reverse the passenger mirror adjusts to the curb side so you don't curb your tires.
Master Appliance makes very good butane soldering irons. Get a Zoro coupon and buy there. Weller might be better for the $$$?
I would be conserved about that NorthStar engine, he's got more $ in that back/up light fix than the car is worth.
Presto!
A chip puller works great for pulling out those small relays.
Where do you get the OEM wiring diagrams from? No longer working as a tech (Bad on the job injury), but my stuff still brakes down….
Good fix Eric O. I love that Weller butane solder torch. Very kool.
The bulbs are wired in parallel… they would only both light up if they were wired in series…
