In this video I have a look at a Chevrolet Cruze with the big 1.4 turbo engine that was dropped off with the customer complaint of running hot. They also said they had it back to the dealer several times for "loud cooling fan." The dealer said it was working as it should. -Enjoy!

Great video, working on a Cruze coolant problem now
If I were the owner of that dealership I’d seriously reevaluate the quality of mechanics I have working there. And make some changes!!! They obviously have no clue what they’re doing.!!! A simple diagnosis and they blew it!!!
When I am accelerating above 60 it's dropping the speed UpTo '0'….
Exactly don't know what's the problem….some one is saying, needs to change spark plugs, gear oil…..
One mechanic told gear box needs to be repair or fix…
Could you guide me please….
Sad and odd that he’d have the dealer do it
Is it best to run cars with Auto and Manual on Manual?
They should rename the Cruze the Chevy Conundrum.
That car has given me so many headaches.
anyone else notice that the desired temp went from 221 to 203
Intermittent over heating, it’s the thermostat. If leaking coolant it can be the hoses, water pump or oil cooler. Replace all the hoses on the turbo if you haven’t after this many years. Engine design is a pain in the rear.
What is the part that was replaced to fix the problem? please freinds
The dealer service manager and techs should make it a habit to watch your videos when these things happen. If for no other reason than to accrue some continuing Ed credits
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great job Bud
Cool video…and now it's 420
My daughter's car has the same problem…in the shop today. Water pump got it.
Maybe half price at the dealer would be your price? I pick you.
I have a very similar problem with my 2011 Chevy cruze 1.4l turbo. It runs fine a majority of the time and only really overheats when I am going up hill. I am thinking it’s something with the fan because the only time I hear it is when it’s full speed and sounds like it’s gonna take off. I replaced the thermostat already and it still overheats going up hills at random times. Does anyone know if it would be the actual fan or just a fan sensor. I’d really appreciate a response since the shops around here are pathetic and they tried telling me it’s the head gasket but a lot of people have said it doesn’t sounds like it’s the head gasket and something more simple such as the fan
That sucks to diagnose a problem the dealer didn't diagnose and the job goes back to the dealer for 1/2 price. I personally would have not returned to the overpriced dealership.
Eric you're a great person. Love your videos and thanks for teaching us. Didn't get job. But diagnosed right!
Do we really need a car (or a world) where Eric O can't figure out how to get the car in "key on" mode? Almost every day I long for the cars of yore.
Great Video man! And great Hat! Thanks so much for taking all that time on this; since you probably didn't get paid for this job.
Great video, thank you for taking the time to do these. Very appreciated
Gotta love these newer cars – "How in the thunder do you turn the key on?"
The square radiator fan has a green resistor in it that has two fan speeds. High speed and low speed. You can not buy that resistor separately. The fan tests good, but the high speed resistor goes out and you only have low speed and your engine will still overheat and your A/C will not blow cold. You need to buy a new fan for $65 on ebay and it does go bad every 100,000 miles or so, because the turboed 4 cyl. engine creates so much heat and causes stuff to fail. That bad resistor fan might blow your 40 Anp fuse in your fuse box. Your fuse box in the engine compartment has two 40 Amp fuses. One fuse supplies power to the radiator fan and the other 40 Amp fuse supplies power to your blower motor in the cab of the car. The engine coolant temp sensor can also go bad from all the heat in the engine compartment. The sensor is actually part of your electronically controlled thermostat housing, so the thermostat, thermostat housing and engine coolant sensor come as one piece when you buy them on ebay. So what it comes down to is you should check 4 things if your engine is overheating(high and low speed resistor that comes with the new radiator fan, the thermostat, the coolant temp sensor that is mounted on the thermostat housing, and the 40 Amp fuse for the radiator fan that is in the fuse box in the engine compartment).
The loud cooling fan is what I got going on too. However the car doesn't over heat its just that the cooling fan is loud.
i have Cruze 2015 1,4 turbo. Overheating. Antifreeze leaking also. No one can find it. Car 3 days in service. Water pump change, thermostat change, thermpature sensor change, radiator checking it is good. Fan works well. The service says have bad circulation. Now they think it is due to The Engine Control Module (ECM) or a problem inside the engine.
I know without looking car can not say anything, but any think, advice maybe help.
The reason it's always the last one you grab.. (pressure caps, torx bits, etc.) is because once you get the right one you stop grabbin.
Push and hold for 5 secs to turn "on".
What a pisser..you figure out what's wrong with the car and then they give the repair job to the dealership. Yeah.."half price" at the dealership will still pretty much equate to rape. Oh well, great video.
My 15 Cruze went through 3 water pumps. The dealership charge over $1200 to replace the second water pump in Arizona. I took it to Bean’s Auto in North Versailles where my grandma always went, and John Bean charged me 1/2 the cost to replace the 3rd one before I traded it in
someone watches AVE's vijayos.
Thanks for the video. My 2017 Chevy Sonic is leaking bad and fast. Don't no wear it's coming from. What's the average cost to get it fix❓PLEASE don't say in the thousands 😥
I love the road tests and hearing you tell about the town.its alot different than where i live.
When u were pressurizing system… those banging sounds made me think the piece of shit car blew the head off at 2psi
Water pump and thermostat housing (cracks) are common cooling system failure points for the 1.4L. So are the valve covers with I believe an integrated PCV valve that fails causing gasket and seal failures. $$$$
My Accord has only one speed 😁
Pretty sad a small garage has to figure out what's wrong for a big dealership
Eric if I didn't live so far away (Lancashire UK!) I know where I would be taking my car. Your breadth of knowledge and diagnostic skills amaze me! It's also great to take in the local scenery when you are out on a test drive.
you didn't get the job ….. " a fool and his money are soon parted …. " comes to mind …
Now a days i am facing issue with my cruze 2014 model that the i fill water every second day but apparently there is mo leakage any where. I am very desperate because i live in oman and so far mechanics have not find the issue. What do you think what is the issue. I feel it may be a cap issue.
Btw I have a 2015 Cruze and I’m having the timing chain and water pump replaced. This video confirmed I’m doing the right thing. Thank you
They would not leave you alone. I was irritated for you
You ought to have a hat or a window sticker or something that identifies you doing a video so you don't get interrupted with anything other than really important stuff.
Where'd you find all these "problems"? I'm ve never had any.I got over 250,000 ks and still running good
Same car had same problem. Water pump
Chevy Cruze…not exactly a "paragon" of quality!
Ok, so now the customer is on the hook not only for the diagnostic time that Eric has to charge, but now he has to pay the Chevy dealer for a repair that they should have done under warranty? NO WAY! Folks, if you are gonna pay a technician for his valuable time for the diagnostic part, you might as well go ahead and get the repair completed right then and there. Most shops will deduct the diagnostic charge once you have elected to make the repair. So in this case the customer would be ahead by having Eric just do the work and get it done right, the first time.
Hope you charge double a pon return when the dealer half donkeys it
We got a Wet one Jajajaja jajajajaj. I love it.
