in this video I have a look at a 2011 Chevrolet Impala LT 3.5 that was dropped off from my used car guy. After having some trans work done at a local shop the car had a few issues. I give it a quick check over to see what in the heck is going on. -Enjoy!

Why don’t these car buyers carry a pocket computer that can interrogate the cpu and save you lots of time.
So who’s the helper?
Man if I liked rust and snow, I'd love to come work for you. I work for Blazek diagnostic and auto repair in Boise Idaho. Been working on cars 28 years now. We just got nominated for the #1 repair shop in Boise. Got 3 of us with almost 90 years experience combined ( we were all dealership mechanics, me for Mercedes Benz) and two young mechanics.
Worked on electronics for 40 years, deoxit should be connected 3 or 4 times while wet to help remove the oxidation….
Hey Marie! I was a field engineer for years, retired and now I pull wrenches for fun…fixing stuff is very satisfying. Many props to you and best of luck!
Just a question, do you ever use the antioxidise electrical grease on cleaned grounds…I use the stuff the use between aluminum and copper in electrical wiring…inquiring minds and all
Great explaining things in simple terms
You a good instructor, because of you and Ray, (combined) my youngest has decided to become a mechanic. He's been in Tech school for several months now, and every know and then he either Quotes you, or Ray when At school. He also has found a knack, of diagnosing electrical problems, and when the teacher asked where he learned that, he just States SMA. and goes on about doing what YOU have taught. and is very methodical about it. Please keep up the posting. Thanks a bunch.
Guns and Roses, not Poison
Ahh, miss the SMA Marie lessons. Youtube flashed me back to this episode as I hadn't watched it.
I'm so happy for Ms Marie if that is what you want go for it kid I hope you make it . It can be fun and frustrating lol

I'm disappointed that you didn't take the ground and clean it like i've seen you do to the rotors. For shame for shame!
Can you just use a jumper wire also instead of that resistor
guns n roses not poison
Very educational. How did you learn to read wiring diagrams
I can totally relate as my grandson is currently attending an automotive tech school. He graduated high school with a computer technology scholarship to Embry Riddle University to get a degree in computer design, paid for by Martin Marietta. But instead he has decided to follow in my footsteps, his grandfather. I was a Certified VW/Audi/Porsche mechanic and over the years I ended up as a NIASE certified instructor for the big three, GM, Ford, and Chrysler.
After tiring of the corporate politics, I opened my own repair shop. I started as a one man operation and by the time I finally retired, I had a 14 bay garage and 10 full time employees, who I ended up having to train. And they all became excellent techs in their own right and 8 of them now operate their own repair shops.
There are two things that are required if you are going to be a successful wrench twister. An insatiable desire to find the root cause of any problem and learn how every system functions in relation to every other system. And as I was told, when I started out, by a gentleman I worked with named Smokey Yunick, "If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life".
A tip of my old grease covered hat to you sir. There is nothing as rewarding as passing on your knowledge to the next generation. Far too many of today's youth have been brainwashed into believing a college degree is the only way to make a decent living. And now many of them are discovering that their MBA has a different meaning than they were told. MBA, today means Move the Broom Around at the local burger joint. That $80,000 degree can only land them a 35k to 40k income. Just ask my daughter, her MBA, which she is still paying off 15 years later, gets her a 50k job, and my grandson has already turned down offers between 75k and 80k from local dealerships and major repair shops.
Keep up the awesome work and best wishes to Marie on her mechanical journey. She appears to possess the logic that most of today's younger generation fails to comprehend.
Kid's gonna be able to crash the 3rd year mechanic test cold.
Honestly Eric when you get to that point in your life, go teach at the Tech schools you would be awesome
Could just be a mechanical failure of the solenoid
That deox-it stuff was a rip off…. I thought it was something special but it seemed like it was just rubbing alcohol which I have a bunch of bottles of including spray bottles..😐
I also think that’s all brake cleaner is now after the EPA got ahold of it. Seems like every cleaner now is aerosol’ed rubbing alcohol. I mean, that’s great we won’t grow cancerous brain tumors later on in life but damn, can’t they come up with something better than alcohol AND doesn’t have carcinogens?
gnr civil war reference 🤟😎🤟
I grew up with a dad that worked you to death, but never had time to explain anything. If you couldn't learn by watching you were screwed. I was very lucky to have a couple great mentors that did take the time, when I was young.
She'll be smarter than all of us very soon… LOL
You know what the sad part is ?? I'm just like the old man. Instead of explaining something I usually just move someone out of the way and do it myself. Now that I'm old I am trying to teach a few young people a few things.
Having been to "Automotive school", about a hundred years ago, she'll learn more working in your shop in 6 month than two years of school… 🙂 But, there is something to be said for school I guess.
What I learned in two years of school was I didn't want to work on cars full time. LOL But, owning several companies that had a lot of equipment, knows how to fix things paid big dividends for many years.
I was kind of an electric prodigy, back in the day. I'm so far out of the loop now, it isn't even funny ! Now I just stand back and throw money at my wife's car. I can still figure out a lot on my old Chevy pickup. At least the motor isn't in it sideways !!
“The car with snakes chasing the tires” light edit : watching this vid again apparently!!
Breather box could've been removed for more room?
It's not poison. Guns N roses
Well done.. had my 4 year old watch this video with me and was asking lots of circuit questions. 🙂 Future mechanic? Perhaps!
Guns and Roses, Civil War is the song I think of quoting Cool Hand Luke
Got fooled this time , Marie is helping you ! She is very dedicated and smart I believe !
You are doing this job like Dan …..do this together ! Mss O helps you out !
I feel sorry for the man that marries that woman. Sheesh
Did it look like the strut tower brace looked cracked in two locations?
Fantastic video and troubleshooting!
I hear you… Can't get brake pads that fix or quality anything anymore. Ridiculous that you have to dealer and get raped for OEM because people stamp every Chinesenum Turd in a Box with does letters and can claim the turd exceeds OEM Spec…. Its all Bullshit look at the finish of a part when there are not trimmed or finished.
I have thought seriously about taking a road trip to see my favorite online mechanics, but then I realize they have more important things to do then mess with some internet geek. Thanks for the videos!
I'm just a spectator and don't know your complete situation but a degree in business or editing sounds more helpful to you guys than another mechanic. Pretty sure you got the wrench turning part down! Good luck either way
Marie “can I test light it” , Eric “NO you’ll burn your fingers” 😂
Marie wants to be one of the boys.
Great video by a great automotive mechanics teacher. Great job bro.
I thought that was the "Burnout Enabled" light… hmmm
Awesome demonstration of electrical diagnostics, She caught on real early it wasn't electrical for the vent solenoid. Hope you are all doing well, Carry on.
This was so enjoyable to watch especially for someone who has neither a car or license
Good use of Stabilant 22A , used it in the 80s on pro sound systems in dance clubs. I had ABS codes from time to time and used deoxit on wheel speed sensor connectors and no problems for ten years.
Good stuff … understandable.
Now listen! This is an important lesson in voltage drop! Lol Mr. O sounded like he got a little hot under the collar for a minute there.
Love the Channel and the comic relief. Minor discrepancy with the Poison Cool Hand Luke reference. It was GNR that used the quote in their song. Just sayin. Still love the show
great job explaining. you are a good teacher, She saw the principle and learned for next time.
You know a little bit of dielectric grease on those connections just might keep that moisture out and the green boogers with it. Just saying
Black with a white stripe on a GM is a negative control signal. It goes negative when it wants to switch something on. You won't see ground and you won't see power out of black and white stripe. Until you have a turn on request at that PIN.
