In this video I am working on a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic that needs new front brakes, ball joints and a left front wheel bearing. It is one of those jobs I started to record then decided I shouldn't have! Time was slipping away from me this day. -Enjoy!

Have u. Got a clip on a brake. Replacement on a 1994 cheverolet , truck?
Do you get the front end aligned after those repairs? Won't the bearings go bad again sooner then later if not realigned?
Now the new front wheel can get out on the road and ridding on dirty some more , smell all that brake cleaner perfume LOL !!!
Where do you get the whole assembly front for 2013 chevy sonic I couldn't
Brake Jobs! #1 Thing done on cars. So many folks doing DIY doing better brakes because of SMA.
Another question:
SONIC:2012- Rear hub/ bearing?
Easy ?
For the layman(w/a wrench), to do?
Good Job ๐,
Things I noticed ?
1. No Swearing ๐คฌ?
2. Ball joint, the last bolt out, should have been your first bolt out. Old B.J. would of held it in place. Less wiggle, trying to work it out.
3. You plug your supplier, who should sponsor you?
4. DONUTS ๐ฉ: PLUG THAT SPONSOR,โ PAULAโS DONUTS.โ
5. You did a HONEST JOB, for that customer: let them watch your video, on there car, (unless you have to pay ROYALTIES TO THEM.)
6. Having all the tools/ lift, really makes it look easy? I know I donโt have. Cost of my time/ how long to do it as to having a professional do it. 1x mine to 1/4 yours.( mine is days vs. yours is hours.)
I just about bought a 2012 Chevy Sonic 1.4L Turbo with 119,000 miles today in really good shape for $4000, but decided not to after I heard about the plastic caliper pistons and all the overheating issues and valve covers and intake manifolds and water pumps and thermostat housings failing every 30,000 miles from all the heat from that turbo under the hood.
Amazing how much you have to do with your knowledge.

Hey what tool is big nasty. I'm a mechanic I've never seen one
Who makes the red hockey stick?the only one i can find online looks cheap.
19.59, Does Eric have a hickey on his neck ?
Good job men
Eric can do anything, anything but get Napa as a sponsor LOL
Those ball joints they call them frogs……
Because their riveted
Eric are you familiar with Freddyโs donuts in Buffalo?
That's some NASA-grade torque wrench.
I don't typically grease under the hardware (California) mainly because out here it causes issues with brake dust getting stuck. It's rare I've ever seen any significant rust under them due to our climate out here. Same goes for the pistons and caliper ears. Just my preference.
I enjoy watching your channel, just keep the white fluffy stuff up there, donโt get much here in Tn
I have found with speed sensors that if you put a bit of pressure on the bottom of it as wiggling the top slightly (plenty of lube lol) they come out easier
I can tell you from experience before even watching the video that the Sonic is total JUNK. I had a 2013 Sonic hatch 1.2L Turbo automatic for about 2 years. I spent more time working on it than driving it. The check engine light would come on about every other day. I bought it from a relative for well below market value with 53K miles on it. I thought I got a deal. I had to replace the entire cooling system, including the radiator and water pump because it still had DEXKILL in it, and it had started plugging up things. I flushed it over and over again and got all that crap I could out that I could. The PCV system includes the entire cam cover, which is made out of PLASTIC. The intake manifold is PLASTIC. I replaced both TWICE. I replaced the charcoal canister purge valve 3 times. At around 102K miles the turbo failed. I'd had enough, and sold it dirt cheap. I see that one still has the original crappy Hankook tires. Yes the brake pistons are plastic too. Parts are made by Daewoo, they were actually assembled in the U.S.
What the price you charge for that job?
Yeah that hub tamer is a great tool I got mine about 25 years ago from otc
I had a 2012 Thank God I let them REPO it.
Chevy LOL IT's a rebadged Korean POS
So Iโm doing wheel bearing and hub replacement as I type this , pressed the new bearing in , then pressed the new hub into bearing and as doing so the new bearing blew out . What am I doing wrong .
Just a correction, the caliper is not phenolic. I own one of these I'll tell you first hand from visual observation the piston is steel the brakes. Phenolic would generally refer to phenolic resin, I've scratched the stuff deep and it's steel.
Also a Chevy sonic was not a Daewoo, that would be the prior generation aveo. The sonic was originally designed by Holden, the engines are descendants of the a16net/z16 engines gm/Holden used in Europe. Though actually the luv/luh was designed as pretty general purpose engine for multiple markets.
Good video though, it's pretty coverage of the process.
"careful with what you shove in here" Phenolic?! More like Phallic!!
I just buy new Hubs They are pretty cheap along with the wheelbearings
My fillings hurt!!! (Headphone user)
Have a 2015 cruze. 60k miles. Sounds like a rattle going over bumps coming from front end. Do you think it's struts or ball joint?
The points of a hex headed bolt/ nut are 60 degrees apart (360 degrees divided by 6 sides = 60)
Great Vid!๐
I cringe every time I see someone else do a brake job. Use the same worn out rotors, letting calipers hang, not cleaning off anything…I could go on! At least I know you do it correctly!
Should of put some tension music for the speed sensor ๐
what ever you do donโt go like the other channels who get really popular !! please please donโt start doing 3 -5 videos a week a 9 mins each . itโs just not the same and i got for one stop watching ! love your format if one job one video . fantastic . love it . learning so much here . cheers from an old car nut in Brisbane Australia !
the old gas axe ! those orange rain drops in your socks are made for dancing !!
Nice 8โ screwdriver.. ๐
Second time watching
i like pb blaster
๐
Throw something bigger ๐๐๐ I'm going to use vise clamp tool now for brake jobs ๐
Your brothers shop? North Main Auto?
I used a cut off wheel on a dremmel and just sliced both sides no problem
Is it cattywompus or caddywampis?
I've heard that you always want to lubricate the caliper slide pins to prevent rotor warpage.
always so informative and education. Much appreciated
