I'm also hearing a ticking inside the dashboard its not loud could that be what's causing the problem with the error codes and how do i find it a fix all three issues?

Curious about that fuel tank. I have a 2004 radio but the front of the tank has a in line fuel filter as to where the one you have is direct line. My vapor vent is leaking around where the silicon or o ring is. Good hunting

Thanks Eric ….just bought one of these. Appears to be in really good shape the truck 2006…amazingly. Can I do this at home? Should you replace the whole gas tank? Any way its cool just another day right…that whole walnut thing was a joke right. I mean the squirrel must have liked his nuts marinated in gas. Can't imagine what he was thinking…think I would have rather been the mouse living in the Pent House on top of the valve cover….

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Earl Fuller says:

Had the same thing happen with mine the fuel pump had rotted away my gas would run out at a qaurter tank had no idea why had all kinds of codes going off and one day I just smelled gas pulled the bed off and it was just rusted to peices

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars maggs131 says:

Thanks for posting this. I know this a problem with my 2011 Colorado. I smell the fumes and have the same code. I wonder if this can also be causing my fuel system to lose pressure when sitting causing longer than normal crank times

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars powerram92 says:

Is there a scan tool that you can do everything on? You use a red one and this one is there a reason why you have both? I'm looking to get a scan tool that does everything or mostly everything

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Russell Booth says:

I only replaced the fuel filler cap on my 2002 model Holden Commodore because it was an obvious fault, the O ring was split on the cap.

It runs the 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine but Holden didn't fit a fuel tank pressure sensor so the P0442 code is not applicable to my car.

Instead I got just a P0171 (not even a P0174) code which is a lean code, it's the only other obvious leak since I replaced all of the vacuum hoses & I had the inlet manifold off to do a hydraulic lifter change ,so all of the seals & gaskets have been changed.

I replaced the purge control solenoid valve pipe with a piece of fuel hose because the old plastic one just vibrated & wore out in 2011.

In my car,the only other part other than the MAF Meter clamps which would leak air is the O ring around the fuel pump sender unit.

Yes, I've been looking into making my own smoke machine out of a jar of baby oil & a soldering iron !

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars C C says:

I just fixed this same problem on my 05’ Colorado, rotted out the ring and tabs on tank. Replaced with after market ring kit, thanks for the video

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jose Cid says:

Can make video at chevy colorado about cruise control 06 -12 .. issues are

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Banditt says:

All well and good but most of us don't have an expensive scan tool or smoke machine.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J0ET0MK0 says:

Now with a leak like that what are the effects of performance? Rough idle, stalling?

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Frankish says:

I just dealing with evap stuff for the first time on a friends Suburban. In this case its a p1441 flow during non purge. I assume its seeing the tank pressure go down with the purge valve closed. I checked the purge valve and it flows slightly when I suck on it, so we are replacing that first.

Vent valve: Duralast PV428 is $24…(04-05) GM 20941985 (06-12) Electric plug (Wells 1161) is only difference. Just heat the hose with hot water and switch it to the new one… Try cleaning the valve first… 12vdc and blow into it and it should be closed when powered… Valve comes off the housing… Tab is on top and turn it 90°. OR the Fuel Pump corrosion issue…

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Locutus of Borg says:

Eric, what is the typical pressure applied to the evap system when testing. Thanks, and loved the vid.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars flgto says:

Hello from Finland! Nice to have that smoke machine. Here is my trick how to find leak in EVAP system. Hook your scan tool to monitor fuel tank pressure sensor and use compressed air to find leak. Just blow the air to different components and when you see action on pressure sensor signal you find the sweet spot.
