In this video I have a look at a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse that came in with a code P0496 (evaporative emission system high purge flow) This is a pretty straight forward diagnosis and the good news is GM has an extended warranty campaign on these vehicles and you could possibly have it fixed for free. -Enjoy!

If I replace my own purge valve, will I still need to go to a mechanic or AutoZone and have them turn off the check engine light? Or will it turn off automatically (if I do the job right)?
I'd like to have a local Mechanic like you around. For sure
Whats that large silver part?
07 suburban, using live data, slow leak, needed a gas cap. It still had the original. New cap fixed the leak. Vent valve and purge valves worked just fine. Special functions ๐.
Replaced my solenoid at the dealer 6 months ago, and now pulling same code. Not showing same symptoms though. ๐คทโโ๏ธ thanks for the vid!
I'm 74 yrs old,, I thank you for all your helpful videos. I watch you all the time. I have a 2017 3.6 terrain ,,,"money light" came on after filling up with gas. P0496 came up on my $5 scanner!! Unfortunately,,my part (same as yours) is located on the passenger side way in the back,,can't even see it!! You always give me the guts to do stuff. It's the BODY!! It's old!! I'm gonna order the part,, & tackle it! Hope your wife's thyroid is ok! My wife worked OB (RN)30 yrs! Your daughter would like it! Thanks & good health to you & family!
where i live in the Netherlands, farm part of the country, we have a motocross club called, de vet nipel !!! ( the greas nipel) hahahahahah.
so there you go, was already out there.
ps love you your vids.
I got a couple things one you use your screwdriver as a hammer and around me I call it a L LARIPIEING DEVICE. And also I I appreciate your explanation on a lot of things you're you're right up there with the tops in my book and what part of the country do you live in it reminds me of a place called la grande Oregon I lived there for a minute I now live in Colorado
Just replaced same canister purge solenoid on my 2013 Traverse, I found your video to be most helpful in getting the job done from buying same part# from same store showed on box. All I could say is thank you Eric and stay safe. New subscriber now.
You also said it was in for an oil change, but you wanted to get it warmed up before changing it. How in the world do you change the oil filter on that with out burning off all the skin on your forearm from the CAT converter that's right next to the oil filter? Also, how do you prevent the oil in the oil filter from spilling all over the engine mount/arm that's directly below the oil filter (thanks GM engineers for that one :\ )
Would you mind sharing what size the bolts are? I could fumble around but Iโd rather not haha.
I have a 2011 traverse that when started, and is sitting at idle, the RPMs start to fluctuate up and down like the truck is breathing then stall out, and if I start it and rev the RPMs to let's say 3000 RPMs the truck will do the same thing, only difference is it won't stall out because I'm pressing the gas, but will do that breathing thing.
Any Suggestions?
Just got done changing this on my 2013 Traverse, but not before falling for the "IT MIGHT BE YOUR GAS CAP SCAM". Well the new gas cap looks cool anyway. Wish I'd found your video first could of saved 20 bucks. Thanks for posting this.
My check engine light keeps coming on in my 2011 Traverse. I have replaced engine, transmission transfer case and timing belt. Also, had the engine flushed out. The check engine light comes and goes off randomly, What to do?
"Enhance, enhance…" Where does that come from? Is that from a movie or something? I find myself doing it lately.
Is it a recall for them purge value?
Welcome to the Greasy Nipple where we have the best jibbly bits
I also went over to Go Tech Garage, while good, not the same personality as you. Your video's are more entertaining by far. Sorry your stuck with us.
How about doing a used car buying video. Some good Eric O tips would be nice to have in our pockets when scanning the landscape for a used ride.
Hi Eric, had a look at Wells Electronics, I don't quite agree with you. You are a natural with a ton of experience. He sounded like he was reading an auto que. I will look at some more and maybe i am wrong but first impressions you are a natural. I could throw any fault at you and you would hunt it down using logical deduction a bit like Peter Faulk used to do in the old Columbo movies. This is a good analogy, this kind of fault finding is like proving the bad guy did it. In my opinion you are definitely up there with the best.
I don't know why, but the driving music cracks me up… I think it reminds me of Benny Hill somehow…. LOL
Right tools soused by Right guy, Success!
I see your business model is โno dealership shenanigans.โ None of your customers walk out having been sold 6 new air filters.
Great video. Mineโs an Acadia and seeing that air box in view reminds me that changing that air filter is a quite a feat in itself and would be a good how to video. Itโs madness!!
Was that a Napa Not A Sponsor Truck in the Lot ??
Once on my way back from Virginia Beach I had to gas up in dirty jersey they striped my gas cap no aftermarket would seal it had to spend 50 at a chevy dealership on my 04 Monte Carlo
P0496 purge valve every time. Replace them all the time. The only evap problem I've seen on the traverse, Acadia and Enclave oh and the Outlook.
Sheep juice, lol
"Fix it till it is broke" – That is my specialty.
if your car needs to vent, it's got more problems then you'll ever have
if your car needs to vent, it's got more problems then you'll ever have
Very well done! And your tests to confirm the repair, that's a professional's way to do it. Love it.
If I can't fix it, I'll fix it so nobody can. Heard of this at other shops?
If Eric can do it.. You certainly can not
I already did it!
Another great tutorial thanks we had snow on the 20th too it sucked
almost 500,000 subs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And there is the problem with corporate America… always so concerned about what is on paper rather than what is right in front of their eyes.. shameful really
Did you say the back door is open and the front door is closed? Pffft…that's my kinda diagnosis!
Your eye is looking better๐๐๐ฝ๐๐ผ๐
Another great video, Eric. I always learn a little tidbit about something. Went and visited Go Tech too – subbed him – pretty good stuff!
Why did tank pressure drop even though scanner showed it was venting?
Why did the Chicken take its vehicle to, the mechanic?
It had a bad strut
Give it full sucky!!! I'm stealing that!!!๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐๐
At least you didn't fall victim to BWD!!!
Bad purge valve pulling excess vacuum. As a fellow mechanic I love your videos buddy!!!
Bosch ads very good
