In this video I have a look at a 2005 Chevy 1500 that came in with a P0449 EVAP Code. This is a pretty common failure in our neck of the woods and a really easy fix. - Enjoy!

Not even close to the repair on my truck. Mine was the square style, smashed into a spot from GM that seems really stupid. 2003-05 EXT CAB, Z71, 6.5' bed models… I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I looked into replumbing everything, to make the repair easy, and the issue becomes the wiring. Also, the "repair kit" available at most auto parts stores cost nearly $200. The bulletin from Delco on this issue calls to re-plumb it with heater hose. I bought 5/8 gas line hose instead, because, its gonna have some fuel vapor in it. Never used it, due to above electrical hassles. I was able to fish everything back into the factory spots, only spending 40 bucks for the evap vent solenoid itself… and the $$ for the hose b/c O'Reillys counter guy was a little dim. Oh well. The CEL went off after driving the truck for a few miles. Runs like a champ! – 2003 Silverado LS ext cab, 5.3L, Mfg at the Canadian plant, 6.5' bed, z71 package, towing package, driven in the rust belt. Note: The solenoid I took out looked like a little explosion went off inside it!!!
Thank you for the insight.
I drive an 05 Chevy equinox add head a issues and found out my evap canister was frozen solid not able to vent
Thank you sir!! Iโll be swapping this garbage out asap on my 05โ 4.3L reg cab base model POS Silvernada money pit of what some consider a truck. Lol. Hopefully tomorrow. Anyway, good video. Thanks again for the parts & tools used info.
You are the man you should run for president
I live in upstate NY , Malone to be exact lol how far apart are we?
Also thanks for the helpful videos!!
Hi Eric O! I have a 2009 sierra that is guzzling gas and running at 2000 rmps per minute! My question to you is, is this the normal range for this truck??
Waited on that part number, you mentioned it twice about gettin it..But I forgive this time..peace out

Just remember, be alert! The world needs more lerts.
Will this valve stuck shut cause the car to not fill up with gas properly? It has a p0446 and a p0445 code
Would be nice to show if any wiring differences
Thanks for this.
There's a heaven for shove it or leave its?!
Beautiful job
Has anyone ever had this issue and also had to replace the ECM or whatever it's called? Years ago I had an '06 Sierra 1500, 5.3 and had this issue. Along with paying $300ish for the valve, the dealership wanted me to pay $700 to replace the computer. Thankfully I had warranty that covered it.
LOL I got 99 codes and a B aint one… LMAO
Jesus run over to the POST OFFICE and ship me one of your scanners… u have like 100, I think I saw a bosch in the other vid
Fairly dumb idea to design a "Pickup Truck" this is usually the type of vehicle most prone to drive on dirt roads use a Evap Filter system that can't take the trail it should ! Regardless of the age of the vehicle, this EPA required hardware needs to be better designed to last !
My lack of knowledge around the power probe infuriates me
Wait a minute! Is that tobacco in your bottom lip or just a weird reflection in the magic screen thingy you conjure with to do you mechanic voodoo stuff? Mrs. O is going to have a fit when she reads this. Hehehe……..
Regarding your issue with the auto ranging min/max values. If you wanted static values, then you would have to set your min/max each time you used it. And if you didn't set it correctly, then when you reached the limits the trend would flatline which could be mistaken as well. It's tough for the programmer especially when the trend area is small like shown.
MRS. O HAS YOUR HOSE CUTTERS?
YOU'D BETTER NOT TALK IN YOUR SLEEP
ABOUT THE ICE CREAM STAND GIRL
Watching your videos motivated me to change my own heater core in my 2007 colorado. Misson accomplished. Thank you sir
I have same problem in a 04 Silverado thanks for walking me through it when the weather gets better I'll change it
Next time you do one of these try moving it beside the transfer case, just lengthen the wires and use a piece of heater hose, this gets it away from road crap, they last alot longer,I've done quite a few that way and it seems to work good
That truck looks like a rusty rotted mess underneath. It makes my 1999 Silverado 1500 look mint in comparison ( and it lives in New Hampshire).
Very good video very informative where's mrs. O haven't seen Hannah in a while
I may have watched this on new years a bit under the influence………………. WOOOOOO!
Thank you very much! Happy New Year to you and your family ๐พ๐
This code just came on in my car a few days ago
with the same failure autozone said i might need a timing belt also
Sadly it seems not everyone in the Rustbelt embraces the rust proofing lifestyle.
Love the SMA archaeology course where you explore fossilized transportation in your region Prof. O! Really like the fossil scales of the Tranasuarus Differential!
Great idea. You are thinking outside the box. I thought the suzuki fix was pretty cool too. ASE Tech Minneapolis MN
Another typical terrific video from Mr. O. Thank you!
got a question for ya i have a 1996 gmc sierra with a new fuel pump and sending unit all grounds are good and the sending unit runs 0-90 ohms and i have a new battery but my gas gauge reads the wrong level and also when i hit the break pedal the gauge jumps around.i have no idea whats doing it.any clue?
I just started "binge" watching your channel. Nothing is getting done around my house this weekend.
Love the content, the way you go about the repairs, and explaining them. Learned quite a bit already.
Keep up the great work, very entertaining.
Scan tool options. In the upper right hand corner of the graph displays there are three little dots stacked vertically. When I see those on my cell phone, they mean that pressing them gives me a menu…I was wondering if you press them could you change the graphing options…? Thanks for taking us all along. fun watching a pro work.
Good work Eric. With me it always ends up needing a smoke test when it is an evap problem and without the smoke machine its hard to find the leak. But good to know I can take an ohmmeter and test the solenoid windings in the vent valve.
don't have the "tool" but the graphs may be adjustable for min/max ad growth ( try the "three vertical dots" to upper right corner of each graph) that wold still kinds suck, thanks google……….
I changed out my evap senloid on the wife's terrain and now it clicks non stop. No code though. Any thoughts? Anyone?
this video will not be Scotty approved you actually fixed something in good detail , thanks for the lesson
14 Demoncrats gave this a thumbs down.
Great video Mr. O thanks for sharing always enjoy watching your videos.
Hey Eric! How is the best damn TV dad/husband on (youtube) TV? Lol
Question….buddy's got an 06 Dakota 4.7L. Have you done a video on replacing that EGR?
IT SEEMS TO BE A REAL B***H!. LOL
