2009 Jeep Compass / Patriot Corroded Relay Box Repair / CEL P0480, P0481, U0100, P0691, P0693, C2202
This a video I tried to do a "live" diagnosis on just to show a little bit of the process of the repair this vehicle and diagnose it. I did jump the gun a little thinking I would have to cut the whole mess out of there but a new day with fresh eyes reviled only a few bad pins and was easily savable by using used parts. Why didn't I get a repair end from Chrysler? Its because they don’t make it unfortunately. I think all in all the repair went well and the customer was happy. Please let me know what you think and leave your comments or tips in the comment box and please subscribe to our channel.

What if I have that code but the fans are working properly. They even react to pulling the relays out and in.
It's a Jeep….
It's going to ALWAYS throw the WTF001 & FU002 codes
Love the more indepth longer videos with the Diag and Cramed with information Eric O great work as ways Brother @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Struck gold times 10 on the first vehicle you stopped at Just chop it off and Wire It back up not to bad at all Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Your videos are grat I have a Jeep Compass 2011 I was driving i notice that my wind shield wipers made one sweep across the wind shield then they went off that was about 4 days before i had this issue I was driving at night listen to the radio it changed screeds to the GPS and I put it back to the radio and a few minutes later it done it again and the screen went to a lot of straight line side to side and the radio went off ad has not come back on but when my head lights that re on the buttons around the radio flash off and on about every 30 sec. I have checked the fuses they are good. could you do a video on this. thanks, your videos are great to watch love them. thanks again
Nice work Eric –O I always appreciate your video. I'm working hard here in Northeast Ohio, practicing the 500 most commonly misspelled words in the English language. _________ A lot of times for words like restaurant, I'll just lock it in with ( Texas Ashland University ) this helps me lock in the spelling correctly. To that end, I sometimes think of your humor, when you say I didn't get my ASE certification or my ABC or my qrx certifications. ________ I always remembered that from one of your videos.
Потерянсвязь на крайслер 300с между коробкой і двигательом u0100 што делать
Very good job. Thanks for sticking with it.
I don't believe in my 64 years and many cars and shops I ever had a tech goes to the junk yard and pull a part to fix my cars. EVER. It's either new or you go hunt buddy. You're truly a master
Why the he'll would f.d.c. put an electric junction box so low on a "jeep"
Can't believe can't re-pin the block
I think you might want to get you a Bic lighter next time you're at the gas station to shrink your wire connections. That mini torch blows about twice the heat and flame needed to get the job done.
Fantastic Chrysler quality. She's lucky to have a mechanic willing to go to pick your part.
These people need to learn not to buy these dam fiat jeeps. They can't build a car worth a dam, quality sucks. Jeep are not the same now
The old Bennets yard!
FYI: The relay block is directly behind the wheel well. Remove the front portion of the plastic fender well on the drivers side, 6 connectors, and you have easy access to the relay block.
Really bad place to put a relay box!
You would thing these engineers would be smart enough not to do things like this!
Thanks for this video. I watched it years ago and remembered it. I had a 2014 compass come in the shop today witht the p0480 and p0691 and i knew right where to look! (I'm a GM World Class Tech, and work on just about anything) You actually get your gm parts from my dealership.
Helps out know what to look for thanks
It’s time to stick a fork in it. It’s gone.
Thanks for the instructional videos mr.O there very helpful and inspirational. The dialog does add a personal touch to your videos. It gives us a glimpse into your personality , and your diagnostic thought train.
It’s Better to be Thurrell then to get haft the story. You are so good what you do and when you take a guess it is always be a educational guess.
Great video Nice camera work. Thanks 🙏🏻
Wow! That was a pretty nifty set of fixes you made there! Kudos, sir! 👍👍
Eric When I saw all of those trouble codes I felt a little anxiety. Amazing how you do not jump to all sorts of illogical conclusions and use your head and experience to solve a problem. It was really genius how you zeroed in on that problem so quickly. And really worked hard to find a viable and economical solution for the customer (not willing to just settle for the obvious solution of replacing harness and costing the customer a huge amount of money.) Your type of thinking and working teaches a lot about how to properly problem solve. Your technique applies to all sorts of problems.
Looks like somebody beat you to steal all the Chrysler Relays. I am happy you made that type of repair and you have some extra female connectors is ever needed. I hope you also charge for your experience even though you saved yourself a lot of time and could only charge for that actual time. Eduactional dialog is good, wire diagrams are better with dialog. Run to the junk yard is cool. Thanks for the salt test.
You are really a good guy Eric O. I am saying this because of my experience with chrysler products people in my area. The cost and results are what has driven me to be self reliant. In other words to do it myself. The last fix I had ruined the engine. Sure they cleaned they car real nice but come on.
I like it! Good job friend, thanks so much. Have a good day.
Very nice got right to it
Dont get me wrong but…. why you dont repair just the 2 cables with a new pins or connection.. for me 2 cables sound better than 12 . Well that is my opinion .
Btw I appreciate the video.
Hello I have a 2016 Chrysler 300 that was jumstarted and after being jumstarted there was no crank no start after several tries the car tries to crank but no start and then eventually it will start air bag light is on codes are on for u0100 lost communication with pcm, c211b ignition run start imput circuit open, p0481, p0480 cooling fan and p258a electric vacuum pump circuit i think it's the pcm but wanted to know if you've seen this if you read this let me know thanks
Exelent job, especially with the reconnection
Thanks Eric. I got a good deal on an 08 Compass with a tow package. It's a little workhorse. Please thank the lady whose 09 Compass you periodically work on. Don't overcharge her because after watching your video 1,000,000 times, I've saved a LOT of money and hopefully you're earning a few bucks posting fixit videos on YouTube. I'm still working on a speed sensor triple dash light after the mechanic changed out a hub. It looks like the sensor was put on correctly but now my abs light is on, with two others lights. I'm also working on a check engine light that traces back to the rear oxygen sensor. The sensor is new. I traced the wiring back to the relay box, like the one you changed in this video, and found one terminal which is corroded. I found the part on Amazon for $14, locally it's $24 but the terminals don't exactly match up. I'd have to change the female receptacle from narrow to wide, the same problem my old lady now has. Thanks again.
Slappin the Sides.
I view videos like this before I buy a vehicle, then I try to make amends before I have problems.
Eric, I think almost every one of these Jeeps has that relay issue. Just checked mine and the relay pin was rotted off too, cooling fan relay i think. Good show!
Yes this 'style ' of video is very helpful in understanding the thought-process that leads to the most value for the customer. Thank you very much!
Great job and video
Second time watching 8/6/2020
Great video. I have a 2010 Compass with a constant P0480 code. Doesn't clear. I checked the relay box, all good.
If I have the middle relay of the 3 out, and turn the ignition on, (but engine not running), if I plug in the relay or short the relay switch contacts, I hear a clicking from somewhere on the right side of the engine. Any idea if this is normal, or what might cause the clicking? With plugging in the relay, it clicks for about 2 seconds and stops. Because with plugging in the relay the clicking starts, the relay must be engergized. By shorting the switch contacts of either the other 2 relay locations (with relays removed) 1 or the other fan will run.
I have JK error as p0693 like camshit sensor from should start
Thank,s for the tip on ultra-seal will be getting some of that !
Hi Eric really enjoy watching you solve the electrical problems, wish I could have got you to look at my PT cruiser.
Great video wish I knew some one like you !!
I have a 2008 jeep patriot 4×4 automatic. My whole relay box was green not good. So I did go to pick a part and found a 2009 jeep patriot relay box all wirers matched except on my jeep I have two kg green wirers plus 3 little green wirers? That isn't on the one I picked up. So if I cut the wires from my old one and solder them together with on to the other same color wires! What do I do with the 3 little green wirers? And what are they for anyways? I do have a remote start in my jeep. But I have no remote for it. Please help me. I have a 2008 jeep patriot manual coming in mail. But because of the coronavirus it will not be here until june 11. 2020 .
My brother own DoD 2010 avenger SXT. And basically it has a code po170 an po176. What advice that you recommend
I got so excited when you said “we going to the junk yard!”
How do you get the smaller wires out of the relay?
Eric, repair was done the smart way. Good video and stop apologizing you always do great…thanks
What makes you solder a circuit versus the heat strink crimp? I've seen you do both in different circumstances.
I have watched many of your videos. It is interesting to watch how your communication and presentation skills have improved. You are obviously a gifted mechanic and now a talented presenter.
I've been watching your videos and man you do an amazing job!
